  1. Thank you kameshss. looked into the gs, and on newegg, its only like 4 more dollars for an extra 2 years of warranty, so i'll probably be getting the g2. Found an x99 pro, a great contender, for less money, yet out of stock. But I have a question regarding voltage. I know that psu's can operate at 100 watts more than they're rated, but it that enough of a cushion if and when I OC my cpu and gpu? Pcpartpicker says my system would take about 520W and cooler master's calculator says about 550w, for reference.
  2. Thanks for the replies. You make a good point. I completely forgot that I could get 16 GB of ram and upgrade later if need be. I probably won't need it but I want it. I like that the x99 deluxe has more usb 3 ports, yet I like that the pro still looks the same and has a ps2 port, but I can't even find it on newegg to compare prices. I honestly didn't even think I'd need the 3.1 upgrade either. You're right on the evo being the better deal I just wanted the pro. What's the difference between the g2 and the gs? How on earth do I get windows off reddit?
  3. So, this is not only my first pc and build ever, but this is my first post ever. For the past 2 to 4 months, i've been looking into building a pc and now I want to be checked, to see if there's anything I'm missing. ANYTHING. Clearance issues, possibly better options, incompatibility. PC part picker says I'm good on compatibility, no issues, but still. I'm not are how to list all the parts all fancy so here's a link to my build that hopefully will work. If not, I'm including a picture of it below somewhere. Link: My Custom Build As you'll be able to see, somehow, I'm going over the top. I'm aware I'm going over the top. I want to. I do content creation, so I want more than a quad core, even though a quad core would do, I'm sure. I come from duo core 8 gig's of memory MacBooks, so you should understand why I want 32 gb of ram. Over the top, yes, but I'd like to be able to have premiere, after effects, and a web browser open all at the same time. I watched Linus's video on ram usage in adobe cc and 32 gb was where nothing past that helped. Also, I'm waiting on getting peripherals. More money, yes, but I'm focused on this right now and I have peripherals already that will hold me over till my next purchase. thy'll be bottlenecks, but oh well. Anyway, my preferences, CPU: I suppose I'd like to stay with intel for cpu. I believe i got the best bang for the buck on that cpu. MOBO: I'd be interested in seeing other mobo's that fit the kind of black and white color scheme, but if not, then the asus x99 deluxe is what I'm going for. GPU: I'd like the classified evga, yet they're not in stock as much as the standard ax 2.0, and I know all I have to do is OC if I really want to. I've researched gpu's and found I want evga, cause gigabyte's has coil whine and the strip is red, big and has a pulsing led that can't be set to off or always on. RAM: I would have gone for the dominator platinum for aesthetics, but the 32 gb setup is so expensiiivvve! So the black hyperX is okay. And going above 2400 is unnecessary since the 5820k doesn't even support 2400, and that's why Ive chosen the 2133 speed. SSD: I like samsung, because they have the fastest speeds. I'd like to go up in amount of storage, but I'm still trying to save a little money, so 128 gb for the OS. HDD: 2tb wd green is enough for me, see any better deals, let me know. I like that t's eco-friendly and cheap. PSU: I was originally going to get the superNOVA 750g2, but I don't think I'll do sli, and I need to save a little money, so I went with the 650w version. If there's a better option with a fanless mode, i'm all ears. People don't like the corsair rm series because they're overpriced. I was looking into those initially, but I went evga. CASE: Fractal r5, good case. I have looked at other cases, and I don't want a case that looks like something from portal, like nzxt's phantom series. My main choices were the fractal r5 or the h440. The h440 and h630 are really the only nzxt cases I like in their price bracket. I just chose the r5 because It's a mid tower with drive cages, because i'll actually use the optical drive I'm getting. I hope. And the h440 doesn't have drive cages, yet the h630 is too big. Oh and if there's anything better I have found, I like it went there's a door that covers the fans and the drive slots. CPU COOLER: I just about got the h100i gtx until i saw that it was dual 120mm. So I chose the kraken x61. OS: I've heard I can get an os cheaper by downloading but if I need a pc to download it, it won't happen. My house only has macs. Other questions I have: I would like an opinion on case color. I was really considering getting a white r5 or if I don't actually get a drive, then the white h440. I'm getting a case with a window, so the matching matters, whether it be the black or the white to match my x99 deluxe. From experience, does anyone use drives anymore? I want one because I wouldn't want my computer to be handicapped in some way. I still buy cd's, so I was going to use it for that, and movies, since I plan to get an ultra wide monitor in the future, cause no black bars. But, if I don't get a drive, then I can opt for the h440 depending on how things match. What all does everyone actually put on their boot drive? I know they put their OS on it, but other than that, is it used for games, applications? I've heard you use applications on it, so in that case, would I need a 256gb ssd? Does anyone know if I'll actually like windows coming from a mac all my life? I know quite a bit about macs and have gone from iPhone to android, so if it's like a breath of fresh air, let me know. I know macs are restricted and windows is more open, but give me a little background. I use windows at school and I'm ok with it. However, if i do hate it, I'm sure i can live with it. Stay with me here on this one, I've never owned a pc, but if I'm correct, when the kraken pulls air through the rad, it will be enough for the acx cooler on the gpu, right? If I get the r5, then I don't want to take off any of the fan covers from the top because it would look weird. I know the h440 has better mounting options on the top aesthetically, and If i wanted to, I could mount another fan on the bottom next to the psu for more airflow, but still. gimme opinions. My bad for any typos, my laptop wants to correct acronyms that are already correct. Thanks for reading and sticking with me. Other than all that's above, if there are any extra tips you might have, please. Tell me. I've done my research. Thanks
