  1. The motherboard bios is already updated to the latest version, and I've verified that the GPU works in another system. Yes, these types of OEM machines are usually a pain to work with, but I figured that the GPU would be a relatively simple upgrade.
  2. Hi! I'm currently trying to upgrade an old HP xwx4600 workstation into a budget gaming rig for a friend, and I'm having some trouble with the GPU. I'm trying to replace the basically useless FX4600 with a Gigabyte GTX 760 Windforce 2GB, but it just gives me GPU-related error beeps in POST. I googled around for a bit and found that it might be because of UEFI/BIOS incompatibility between the mobo and gpu? I found no useful settings in the bios that would solve this. Am I out of options, or have I missed something? I found a few forum threads that mentioned that I could flash a 670 vbios onto the 760, but I've yet to give it a go. WS SPECS: CPU: Q9550 RAM: 4GB DDR2 PSU: 485W SSD: 240GB SATA MOBO: FMB-0702 GPU: Quadro FX4600 Thanks in advance!
  3. Good thinking, that does make sense. I think I'll just go for a 4x 2GB unbuffered non-ecc kit and just see what happens. Thanks again!
  4. I'm having a lot of trouble finding ECC unbuffered sticks that doesn't cost a fortune on ebay, so I've been trying to find out if non-ecc unbuffered will work and I don't feel like I've gotten a clear answer. Some people say that it'l probably work, but the manual for this motherboard only mentions ECC ram.
  5. This is exactly what I needed to know, huge thanks! Now I just need to get a hold of some decently priced RAM...
  6. Yeah I guess even an SSD over SATA2 would be better than an HDD. Thanks, I'll see if I get my hands on a cheap one!
  7. So that seems to be my mistake, I have yet to even figure out the difference between buffered and unbuffered..
  8. That's the information that I looked at before I ordered and I believe I managed to get DDR2 ECC. My guess is that i ordered buffered instead of unbuffered? I couldn't find any information about that in the listing so I assumed it was fine. I feel like I've definitely missed something..
  9. Hi, I recently got my my hands on an old HP XWX4600 workstation for free, and decided that I would try to upgrade it with cheap parts and give it to a friend. I've upgraded the CPU from the included E8500 to a Q9550 and I've got a GTX 760 to replace the FX4600. Now for the RAM, it came preinstalled with 4x 1GB sticks and I figured that would like to double it to 8GB, so I went ahead and looked up what type of RAM I needed and ordered 2x 4GB sticks off ebay with this title: 4GB PARITY RAM PC2-6400P DDR2 800 IBM HP 499277-061 MICRON MT36HTFS51272PZ-80EH1 I went ahead and installed them, but the FMB-0702 motherboard would just give me memory-related error codes during POST. I'm guessing that I misread the specifications and ordered the wrong type of RAM, so I'm hoping that I could get some help and figure out exactly what type I need. Bonus question: The included 250GB HDD is pretty sluggish, would getting a cheap SSD help with this or would the SATA2 interface just bottleneck it? Thanks in advance!
  10. So I need some advice on what to do. Here's the situation: Currently I'm using a 60hz LG 23" IPS monitor. I mainly play CSGO but I enjoy games such as Bioshock, LoL and I'm planning to play the new Need for Speed and Battlefront games(plz EA don't let me down). I'm looking into purchasing a 144hz monitor, I've tried the Benq XL2411z and coming from an IPS monitor it was OK, fine for CSGO but Bioshock(1) looked like shit compared to my IPS. Now I know there are some IPS 144hz monitors out atm, however 27" is way too big for me, I've tried. Furthermore there seems to not be any 24" models available atm. So I'm wondering if I should wait for the perfect monitor to show up(if there ever is going to be any 24" models) or just buy the XL2411z for CSGO and use my 60hz IPS for other games. Sorry for the wall of text and for any spelling/grammar errors as I'm from Sweden. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.
