That term always amuses me.  Would you perhaps mean “husbands”?  Because it’s what the word means.
 

regarding “hear pictures” you’re hearing a simulated car and seeing a simulated car.  It’s not a picture.  
 

The language has words in it to say what you mean.   That you can’t use them to do that may not be your fault and might be the teacher’s but it isn’t the fault of the language.

There are people who can do things like hear pictures and smell colors.  It’s called synesthesia.  It’s commonly associated with brain tumors.
