  1. Have you head of RetroBrite? I'm not sure if I spelled that right, but it's a compound you can make with stuff around the house to, at least temporarily, turn yellowed plastic white again. EDIT: it's Retr0brite actually. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retr0bright
  2. That looks really nice for a 26 year old keyboard. Are those new keycaps or did you just clean it up really well? Just for shits and gigs, I made a video comparing the two. I'll post a link to it when it finishes uploading if you really care.
  3. I use MX Blues normally, which I've been told can be heard from across the house. The MS keyboard is a membrane board so it's much quieter and I can actually get away with gaming until 3:00 AM lol.
  4. I'd suggest something like a Ducky Shine 5 or a CM Storm Quickfire Rapid-i, so that if you ever want to/need to change your keycaps, you can. The K70 and Blackwidow both have non-standard bottom rows, which really limits you down the road.
  5. Have you seen the Corsair Bulldog/Lapdog? http://www.corsair.com/en-us/landing/bulldog http://www.corsair.com/en-us/landing/lapdog (The Lapdog is available now, the Bulldog DIY kit is also available as well, but the pre-built won't be out until Q3) I know you said controller support, but you could just use the Bulldog and a Steam Controller or Xbox controller instead of the Lapdog.
  6. shoulda, coulda, woulda. It was too short for me anyway, so I would've bought a new one anyway
  7. That's pretty much my guess. I'm going to grab a 3rd party one and hope I have better luck with it.
  8. In the timeframe that I've had my Droid Turbo, a year and a half-ish, I have gone through about 10 Micro-USB cables that all died in a month or two. The original one died in about two months, the next one I bought worked for a day (slightly exaggerating), and every one I've had since then has failed. I am now using the charger that came with my very first phone, which takes a solid 4-5 hours to charge from 10% to 100%. Theory One: The Motorola turbo-charger wall wort is defective/damaged and is frying them. The wart does get very hot, as well as the phone (somewhere in the ballpark of 160o F at max!!!). Theory Two: The charging port on the phone is loose and damaging the cables when moved around/Micro-USB just sucks Theory Three: I suck at taking care of stuff????? What do you guys think?
  9. For simply web browsing, Linux is great. The only small problem might be any Flash videos he comes across, which are being phased out anyway, and I believe Mint has Flash pre-installed anyway. So Mint is a great option for him imo.
  10. #! is a dead distro though. I'd recommend the "continuation" of it, BunsenLabs, over the original at this point, or ArchBang if you want Openbox. I also think DSL is a bit more stripped down than the OP is looking for.
  11. It's a learning experience in my opinion, but you're right. Arch is a great distro, but it is very difficult to get set up. I'm sure I'll eventually give it another shot, but I'm happy with Manjaro for right now. It gives me everything I want out of Arch, without the BS. He's right, and if you want to stick to Ubuntu but with minimal packages, you could try Ubuntu minimal as well. I suggested Manjaro because you mentioned Arch, but if you'd like to try Ubuntu Minimal, I'd suggest watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U42Ln3k7VK0
  12. I'll be honest, I've never managed to do it. I almost got it one time, but I accidentally set my keyboard layout to QWERTZ on accident and gave up. It really depends on you, your computer, and how well you follow directions
  13. Here's a link to the Cinnamon Minimal ISO: https://sourceforge.net/projects/manjarolinux/files/community/Cinnamon/2016.02/cinnamon-minimal/x86_64/
  14. No problem! I tend to switch between Ubuntu/Debian and Manjaro frequently, and besides accidentally typing apt-get on my Manjaro machine, it's not a huge deal to get used to it
  15. Manjaro uses Pacman, just like Arch. It's not a bad transition really. Here's a guide for it: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pacman
  16. I feel like I'm the only one on this forum who doesn't like Lubuntu...
  17. Manjaro Cinnamon Minimal edition. It's based on Arch, but you don't have to install it yourself through the terminal. The minimal ISO is very light on the packages, only ~500 or so IIRC, and I doubt the full ISO has that much more packages if you wanted them. Cinnamon is a light-ish desktop environment, so I don't think you should have trouble running it.
  18. No I think it's fine now. I don't think you need to do that
  19. I was typing that before you revised it. I revoted
  20. Ah damn, I can only pick two. I'm kind of an all-around geek, I like building computers, I like tearing laptops apart, I like Linux, I like programming, I like mech keyboards, I like audio... yeah I'm a goddamn nerd. EDIT: Lol I like the new poll better. How'd you know I was a sentient turnip?
  21. That's a bit much. I'd say there's something wrong. What version of Ubuntu are you trying to install? If you're using 16.04, it may just be too new for the system to handle. Give BunsenLabs a try. Follow the link and click on the button that I circled on in the screenshot below:
  22. How long did you wait? It usually says that briefly and goes away. It might just be slow because of the hardware.
  23. Ha, I raise you a mobile P3 with 256MB RAM. Completely useless.
