  1. I currently have an Asus Z87 Sabertooth with a 250GB 840 Evo as the main drive and a 2TB HDD with the Videos, Photos, and Music folders pointed to the HDD, as well as a Blu Ray Burner. I also have some favorite games on the SSD and others on the HDD, but I was unhappy with the HDD performance for loading. Even Steam has to wait when updating games on the HDD. With games becoming larger and the slow HDD speeds I bought a 500GB 850 Evo to move them all onto. Also, the reads on my 840 Evo have dropped a good bit even after updating and performing the restoration process, so I bought another 500GB Evo to replace it. The mobo has a Intel controller for 6 SATA ports and a ASMedia controller for two others. I wanted to add an SSD for recording and figured I'd just repurpose the 840 for that. I was thinking clone the 840 to one 850 and keep the other 850 as a separate game drive but then I have two 500 GB 850s so maybe RAID 0 and clone to that? Since the ASMedia controller only has two ports, can I do RAID 0 for the two 850s and still plug in the 840 standalone for recording on the Intel controller? I figure the Blu Ray and HDD are slower and would be better on the ASMedia controller. I'm just not sure if I can do RAID 0 and a standalone together on the Intel controller. I also am wondering what sort of issues would I have cloning a single drive to RAID both in general and specifically in my case where things are split between the SSD and HDD. Thanks for your input.
  2. Thanks for the input! It seems upgrading is not the best course of action at the moment.
  3. Hello all, I currently have a 4GB GTX 770 and want to upgrade and was wondering whether it makes more sense to get another 770 and SLI or get a single GTX 970. I know another 770 would be a much better boost but the single 970 would provide enough of a performance boost and I could sell the 770 to offset the cost. The lower cost and the fact I'm not taking a gamble with a used 770 is pushing me toward a single 970. I currently game on a single 1080p display and don't desire to upgrade to a higher resolution any time soon so I don't think the 3.5GB thing will be an issue. I have a Z87 sabertooth with a 4790k. Opinions and insights are appreciated, I'm pretty sure I want to go with the 970 but want to know what other thought. Also, if you have particular experience of Skyrim modded with hi-res textures and meshes with an ENB running on a 970 please let me know what your experiences have been. Another thought, I did consider a 290x but the price and performance are similar enough that I decided to stick with my Nvidia preference. Thanks, Kevin aka beerisyum
  4. I'd be interested to know what type of challenges and limits are you experiencing as you continue to make the technology smaller. How do these limits affect performance, price, etc. and what are some methods you use to address these restrictions and their impacts.
  5. Going from 2 to 4GB would be worthwhile if modding or playing games with bigger textures also doing high res or multi-monitor.
  6. G.SKILL Sniper Gaming Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-1866C10D-16GSR 160 USD, CAS 10, 10-11-10-30 G.SKILL Sniper Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-1866C9D-16GSR 165 USD, CAS 9, 9-10-9-28 So same everything except the timings. As I understand there wouldn't be human noticeable difference between the two timings, but for 5$ more is it better quality like a nicer bin? Not concerned with the 5$ extra and they both have lifetime warranties so, in a ASUS Sabertooth Z87 any benefits? More stable or perhaps with OCing some sort of advantage? Thanks. EDIT: Thanks for the feedback, CAS 9 is the way to go.
  7. Personally I would wait until beginning of next year as supposedly BF4 will implement mantel support in December. That hopefully will give a good indication of what level of performance that feature will provide over the 7970. If you need to buy now I would think buying 280X is safer because of the identical performance but headroom for possible improvement as the new technologies it supports are better implemented. Also, waiting a little more should give you a better idea of what Nvidia will offer in rebutal, if you don't mind switching sides.

  10. beerisyum I think is self explanatory.
  11. Style and sound can be subjective including whether something feels like a quality material. If you like the look and the sound then rock on. I personally find that you can find headphones that sound as good as or better than Beats for much less than $100 and for the same price as Beats get a much nicer set of headphones. Again it's subjective and given there is a stigma in a way, nice of you still putting up a review.
  12. When buying consider future upgrades. This would be researching your components to see possible upgrade possibilities and if the technology will be replaced by a new standard. Also consider upgrades when building by running an extra sata cables for added drives and if you plan to upgrade to a more powerful graphics card use 6+2 power cables. Filtered air intakes and positive case pressure means less need for opening the case and cleaning.
