  1. Neat that i'm on a different screen, But still not helpful when I can't change the password. Since when did raspbian stop booting to a command line? I'm confident i've never changed this either, Still default pi & raspberry
  2. Before you go throwing money at the problem, Try using another mic in the same port first, soundcards in 2020 are a hard sell.
  3. Before you click off immediately, Try hearing me out. Obviously I've been all over the internet trying to find a solution to this, But I seam to having the opposite of everyone else. Started my night off with deciding I should update my PiHole server, no problem right? SSH into the thing and can't remember my password. So I just grabbed an HDMI cable to reset it... But for the life of me can't figure out why I can't get to the terminal?? It's like it's getting stuck booting, But the PiHole API still works just fine.(See pics). I can get into the web interface just fine, But why in gods name can't I get into the physical terminal? I've tried rebooting it with and without my PADD display, Did the same thing. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
  4. This is the first time i've needed to use it. If it runs in a browser then i'll just use Sandboxie. And in all honesty i'm most likely going to use a Live CD, Figured I should make a thread since I can't find anything online that discusses this:
  5. Hello friends, I think it goes without saying Zoom is one of the most sketchiest conference programs being used today, And as I have a job interview this Friday, I would like to get it running in a VM first. I've tried pushing my camera both with the Virtualbox extension pack and as a standard USB device, neither work on Windows or Linux (Not pictured because my PC BSOD when I kill the VM but I also tried Manjaro), Camera is a C920 Pro, Works fine on my base system, Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
  6. Looks like no sliding server rails was a blessing in disguise, my unit barely fits in my rack. Didn't even think to measure it first. Either way, glad it worked out in the end.
  7. Well I tried to be fancy and go with proper sliding rails, But my wallet is telling me generic bottom supporting rails are the way to go. I get that this isn't consumer grade hardware, But why the fricc are 4 2.5 foot long strips of metal going for over $100 used. I swear this whole industry is nothing but a proprietary cash grab.
  8. Hello lads, Despite knowing nothing about servers besides a FreeNAS system in a corner, I bought a Lenovo Thinkserver RD640. And it's been leaning up against a wall for the last week. I want to mount it in a rack but the first set of universal rails I bought on eBay didn't work (did get a refund though!) Since I've now learned by trial by fire, How are rails categorized? Do all brands have their own mounting hardware? The only listing I can find that specifically mentions my machine is almost $100. Would RD540 rails work as a substitute? This is a pic of the first set next of rails to my machine. I have no idea what I'm doing. I got it for a good deal and I'm only using it for Minecraft and FreeNAS.
  9. Hello folks, A friend of mine has requested that I build him a budget gaming rig for $300. The cheapest way to do this is to buy and old Dell and throw a GPU in it, and that's exactly what I did. I already bought a Dell Vostro off Craigslist with an i5 3450, a 2x4g of ram and a 1tb HDD with only 1681 hours on it for $140. Pretty good deal if you ask me. Problem is it only has a 300W PSU with a single 6 pin PCI-E power cable. My first though would be a 750ti but that's severely bottle necked by it's vram last time I had one last January. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Obviously I have money in mind, But Texas is about to go under lock down and he's still a friend. I'm already unemployed so $100 profit here would be nice but I'm not terribly strict on that. Update: Decided to go with a NEW RX460 for $89 shipped. Friend agreed to up the price to $350 if I throw in two extra monitors.
  10. Alrightey, I've been trying to solve this for two days now. Really not stoked about the "progress" i've made. I had KDE Neon, Ubuntu, and Windows 10 installed on an NVME drive in my laptop. Last night, Ubuntu got corrupted which took away GNU+GRUB preventing me from loading any other OS. I've tried every live CD I own trying to re-install something with a boot selector. I eventually gave up, Completely formatted my SSD and opted to re-install starting from scratch. I have a Windows 10 backup on a separate partition on my 1tb Steam HDD. For whatever reason, Despite all my old data still being there, TLDR: I don't have a MedialID.bin file for the old backup, Windows refuses to detect anything older than when i installed this instance. This is really infuriating.
  11. Yeah, the ticking is just loud enough to drive you mad. Minecraft music at full blast is is then.
  12. So i guess the best course of action here is see about getting a replacement sent out. But I don't think that's a very safe option given current world events. I live in the states so it's not like I don't have time. The only other PSU I own that isn't a Delta from an old Dell is a 600W Thermaltake unit i bought for $45 6+ years ago. (Which i only replaced with this Corsair after it started giving off a burning smell when gaming with an RX580 Strix. Was not my best move but i'm glad i played it safe)
  13. I probably am, I'm good with solving problems, But i have no idea how to diagnose a PSU. https://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=116511&highlight=ticking https://forum.corsair.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=125914 I know it's still under warranty, So I'm really not interested in opening it up(Not that I'd do that anyway. I have no idea what I'm doing) From what I've read online, it only happens in fanless mode. I can't exactly pull it out to be sure.
  14. This issue has been pretty well documented, and the best coarse of action is just to RMA. But given current world events, I don't want to be stuck without a PSU for the next few weeks. I have an RM650x that works just fine, But ticks in fanless mode every few seconds. This is a pretty common failure that isn't dangerous to the system, and it's a first hand unit i bought January of 2020. Is there any way i can silence this in the mean time? Attached vid for reference. I wasn't doing anything taxing. It's slow, Louder in person, and extremely annoying.
  15. This thread is ancient but I just thought of this at 02:30am for some reason. My phone most likely just couldn't supply sufficient voltage. We called via Hangouts anyway where i could use my desktop and Logitech C920. Nowadays you could just use the Microsoft Phone Companion app to route standard calls through your desktop anyway. Also i ended up getting a job at the same company, different location. and 6 months later I'm looking at finding another one. Not a fun place to work at.
  16. My first unit had a faulty battery that would just force shut down when you used any torque modes, Amazon shipped me a replacement and it seems to be good for now. For general hobby stuff you're probably better off with a wowstick F1. But if you work in the industry it's 100% worth it's weight in gold. edit: that last sentence is a lie. keep reading the thread
  17. So, I work in phone repair and a while back splurged on an ES121 electric screwdriver. The thing is a beast, cannot recommend it enough if you can overlook the price tag. One of the advertised features of the screwdriver is that it's open source and can run whatever firmware the community comes up with.. If there were much of a community.. Tetris ROM is a fun gimmick for a few minutes and updating to enable P mode is super useful, But that's about it. One single 3rd party ROM. I can't find much information on this at all, Especially none in English. It's a great product, Just know what you're buying info before picking one up. Info on this product is extremely sparse so I'll attach every ROM all 2 of them I've personally tested that work for preservations sake. mini dso.zip
  18. It resets, And I schedule my phone to restart every night at 04:00. So that number is meaningless to me.
  19. Alright, So i just bought a refurbished Note 9 as an upgrade from my S8 and I've been loving it. But a refurb is a refurb, and I'm extremely curious as to how used this phone actually is. Every bit of digging online only directs me to uptime in settings or rando apps that log how you use your phone specifically. Not even close to what i want. How many hours has this phone been in use in it's lifetime? I'm sure this is logged, But I have no idea where.
  20. Well that's unfortunate to hear. I've had far too many negative experiences with Dell to say my next laptop will be one. Gotta love anti-consumerism.
  21. Hello lads, I'm not sure if there is a valid solution here but whenever i plug in my Dell i5 5577 Gaming with any rating other than the 130W brick it came with, it caps off performance and everything tanks to the point where i can't even watch YouTube. Yes, I know i should be using the 130W rated charger it came with but i left it at work and I'm off for the next two days. really don't want to spend $50 on a charger when I already have a surplus of old Dell 90W chargers. (which i am using right now I should add) I'm only bringing this up because Task Manager shows my CPU getting capped off in a way I've never seen before. Is this a software thing, And can i turn it off? Blue line shows when i plugged the 90W charger in.
  22. yeah the data is important but not worth spending a few hundred bucks on. mostly memes and stuff if I'm being honest I decided to just send it and copy the drive with Minitool Partition Wizard to an external HDD. already got a 1tb WD blue in the mail. easy money. shoutout to r/LinusFaces
  23. Drive was dead and clicking when i pulled it. file explorer sprung open..
  24. Hello lads, Probably an unusual question with no right answer. Earlier today I replaced the HDD in a friends 2012 Mac book, His last time machine backup was 2018. I was kinda curious how it would look in CrystalDiskInfo so i threw it in my drive toaster and it spun up just fine. Since there is a chance i can backup data from it, What's the best way to do so? Windows File explorer would corrupt everything if the drive dies mid transfer, Is there a better/ more reliable alternative for copying whatever i can over?
  25. When i say our store has no affiliation with apple, It's actually kind of a grey area. Our store specifically, no. An insurance partner we work with however does. these were sent over for our remote techs who deal exclusively with insurance claims. that part i overlooked because we do mostly Samsung in store.
