  1. Dude, I appreciate what you're trying to do, but did you look at my build at all? I want to stay at a 2Tb drive, and I already own a tower and power supply. No point buying a new one of each.
  2. So I've got this build that TheKDub helped me with: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Starfarer50/saved/B7pLrH But now I'm wanting better specs because I have two friends that won't stop talking about the new Metal Gear. Here's the recommended stats for that game: OS: Windows 7x64, Windows 8x64 (64-bit OS Required) Processor: Intel Core i7-4790 (3.60GHz) or better; Quad-core or better Memory: 8 GB RAM Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (DirectX 11 graphic card required) DirectX: Version 11 Hard Drive: 28 GB available space Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card (Surround Sound 5.1) I already have a monitor and a mouse, and I have a wireless system selected so I don't have to run a wire across the house. I'm aware 2Tb is a bit large, but it's only about five dollars more and I want the extra space for movies. So the real question is what do I need to change or update to get at least these stats while staying as cheap as possible? I was hoping to stay around the 1000$ mark, but I don't know if that's possible to do and get the desired specs. Edit: I've got no interest in SSD's at this point in time, I own a monster tower and a good PSU, and I want 1 8gb stick and not 2 4gb sticks. More info means better results! Thank you!
  3. Ok, so I'm planning on going with the build KDub gave me, the only things I changed were adding a cheaper harddrive to save 15$, and adding just a cheap optics drive capable of reading and writing CD's: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Starfarer50/saved/B7pLrH I looked at the reddit link of buying a key for windows, how am I supposed to install it on a new computer without an actual disc? Do I put it on a thumbdrive and execute from there somehow? I appreciate the feedback everyone has given so far, I'm just wanting to have all my questions answered before I hit go.
  4. I kinda figured get the blue ray drive since it's cheaper than getting an actual player and I still need to replace my busted one. I need at least a basic drive for my old disc games (like Bloodlines and Arcanum) and just ripping CD's for music.
  5. Ok, so I'm attempting to build my first computer, and I've got certain things that I definitely want to have in the build, but I only vaguely know what I'm doing and I'd like to stay as close to or under 1000$ as I can. The things I definitely want are a huge case, 2Tb's of storage (I'm aware it's excessive, thank you), and 16g of memory for future proofing. My logic is if I buy good stuff or lots of stuff now (memory and storage) I'll end up saving money in the long run by not having to upgrade a part as often, or at all (the huge case) I mixed and matched and pretended I knew what I was doing and got this build put together: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Starfarer50/saved/xcdWGX On the other hand though, I looked at choosemypc.net and plugged in my 1000$ budget and it gave me this (slightly tweaked): http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Starfarer50/saved/w22G3C The only things I changed on the second build were switching to a cheaper harddrive, putting in 16g instead of 8 of memory, and adding the big case I want and the 850w power supply I've already purchased (on sale at a really good price). I don't trust the motherboard since it caps at 16g and only has two memory slots, but again, I really don't know what I'm doing. I've got a wireless mouse and a 24' tv with a VGA attachment I'm going to use for now to save money, and I'll probably grab a cheap 10$ keyboard while I try to figure out the different buttons on mechanical keyboards (I'm leaning towards brown right now?) My question is should I tweak stuff on my personal build (since I just picked things), or is the other build vastly superior? If I do need to change things, what should I pick instead? I primarily play things like New Vegas and Skyrim, so I'd like to be able to run them on high graphics if possible. I'm also hoping to be able to run Shadow of Mordor and Fallout 4 when it comes out, as my 300$ laptop (in 2013 money) can barely handle Borderlands 2 at the moment, even on the lowest settings. Thanks for all the help!
