  1. Hey there cheers for the replies guys! I would consider getting an i7 but the thing is as you said, I would definitely need to sell my current i5 but I am not sure whether I will be able to given that I live in the emirates and I don't really know how mid tier cpus like these sell I saw the aforementioned CPU selling for 800aed or 217 usd of course it was used ) but other cpus like the i5 6600 for 650 AEd or 176 USD. I am not really sure if my cpu will be of any value here tbh. Even if I take my PC I will likely build a cheap one with the left over parts for my brother and dad to use. So its either spending more on a PC for myself and leaving behind the old one or spending less and taking my one and building a cheaper one. Would you mind if I get back to you on a PM? I need to think this through hahah
  2. Eh you're right tbh! Cheers what about taking the AIO cooler abroad?
  3. Heyy was wondering should I bother upgrading my PC's CPU and in turn ram motherboard and storage for uni? I'm an engineering student ( mechanical) I will have a laptop which I'm in the midst of searching for. But here are my specs I5-4670k ~ AIO cooler 16gb Ram Asus gene vi m-atx board GTX 1070 256 GB SSD 1tb HDD 730W thermaltake power supply I'll be going abroad so was also wondering if I'd be able to take my AIO cooler? ( Heading down under!)
  4. Hmm so I go AMD is what it really looks like excepting performance gains in the future for upgrading it sounds better but I'm skeptical since I'm just wondering would thunderbolt 3 be a deal breaker in the future when an itx board is limited in upgrades
  5. Exactly what I'm getting at look at what Intel did in response to ryzen Gen 1 and 2 they released 8th gen which killed off Z270 boards since the new processors aren't supported on z270
  6. See that's where I'm torn between them will what Intel has in the next 2,3 years be supported on the same socket or will I have something better than the current i7 which I can just easily pop in to the motherboard and get going without needing to spend more on a new motherboard
  7. My bad I fixed it after checking again hahah sorry. True asf they're so annoying with their releases probably due to the lack of competition earlier huh. My question really is will there be a processor in 2020( or at least ahead of this year ) on this socket that can outperform the current i7 8700K or how long would you expect it to run for to be competitive with everything else in the future really
  8. So what you're saying is there will likely be two more generations of the lga1151 sockets with compatible processors? Keep in mind Intel are expected to release z390* this year Edit z390 not 470
  9. Is stability good on their systems rn? Since I don't want to spend uni trying to fix it often -.-
  10. Long term cpu upgrade: i7 8700k vs Ryzen 7 ( 2700x, 2700, 2600x ) Which of these processors in the long run is worth the Upgrade? Especially if I go mitx which limits internal expansion My work: gaming on a GTX 1070 ( LOL, battlefield & GTA ) along with uni engineering software as well as simulations and programming [ perhaps server hosting (maybe)] The Intel processor's chipset won't be compatible with future processors but has the benefit for now of thunderbolt 3 which can allow for external expansion ( docks, egpu, PC data transfer etc.) As well as being more stable overall ( virtual machines and other software ) and better per core performance and overclocking. --- future use: just gaming rig potentially or a server or on the go LAN rig etc. The Amd processors motherboard will have future options for CPUs which maybe better than the current i7 however the motherboard will likely become out dated past its lifetime ( up until 2020 is when the am4 boards are supported to) its not as good as intel with virtual machines etc. and the overclocking right now is mediocre in terms of benefits. The performance is good for workstation loads but is expected to become better with maturity with software optimisation in the future. Especially when it comes to gaming. However once support ends for the socket I'd suspect itd last longer than the Intel CPU if in opt for the best and CPU in 2020. I will however be limited in upgrades on the same motherboard unlike the Intel board and overclocking right now isn't that exciting on the current processor so I maybe likely to change the motherboard. Which should I choose? I'm going with an itx board cus I'm going to uni abroad so it's easier to take it about with me in uni and saves space too I will likely have a laptop with thunderbolt three as well Bless you for reading
  11. My best bet is Amazon really. If that's what you mean ( or souq.com)
  12. I would but I don't think I'll be spending a lot more than I'd like since I'd spend quite a bit for the laptop really and I'd end up spending a ton more if i wanted to buy a new motherboard ram and CPU
  13. The docks or text egpu enclosure? I mean realistically I'd need the laptop to have a descent battery life too lol. Could you elaborate?
  14. Heyy, so I will be heading to UNI soon and was wondering would it be worthwhile upgrading my i5 4670K to an i7 4690K? My PC now: CPU\^ \+ AIO watercooler, GTX 1070, 16gb RAM and an ssd and the such with a Z87 Motherboard I wont make the big jump of getting a new Cpu and motherboard and ram since ram is quite expensive now and it would cost less to just buy a CPU but would it really be cost effective? Since I can get the i7 from around 260USD to 350 USD over here Since I would be doing some cad work and such on my Desktop. I would have a laptop with an i7 8th gen. six core most likely, so I figured: "well wouldn't that make your PC redundant if your laptop processor out performs it by a mile?" But then I wonder can't I just buy an egpu enclosure and a tb3 dock and get a laptop which supports tb3 x4 lanes and set up a dock in my dorm for work taking my peripherals and everything especially if the PC has an 8th gen 6 core? My only concern would be storage I'd guess? But would that be covered if I get an external ssd? Mainly for back up file and games really? Ps I'm traveling abroad for uni !! Thanks for reading! Tl:dr : upgrade PC fron i5 to i7 ( still 4cores ) for uni ( engineering degree). Or get a laptop with a hexacore CPU and descent gpu of course and thunder bolt 3 4 lanes and just set up a dock for gaming and work + egpu 1070 and ssd setup?
  15. Sorry for the absurdly late reply preferably something moderately thin and light yeah (:
