  1. Solution was to update the BIOS of the motherboard, I think there may have been some software issue with the board chipset. Steps taken: Clear cmos unplug all drives except boot drive boot to windows and install latest amd chipset firmware download and flash latest motherboard bios (This took four hours to install for me, the progress bar was basically not moving) System should be functional now I will be reinstalling windows and seeing if that makes any difference but I have time since it is a very long weekend so I don't mind. I will also be upgrading to a GTX 1080 that I just got in the mail and see if it makes any more drama. Next paycheck I will also be getting a corsair icue 220t and a new power supply, don't know which I will be getting since 650w seems to be enough but I may jump to 750 just in case. Later this year I will be moving my boot to an nvme ssd and replacing my drives with some iron wolfs from seagate of a much higher capacity, maybe 4TB each.
  2. I finished work and tried it two more times and it worked on the third try, I don't know if it will continue working but I have it booted for now which is nice. Thanks for the help Pandur. Edit: new problem. System takes ten minutes to start up and the bios is hectic laggy(think twenty seconds between keypress and action). I think it may be because I used my boot drive from my old intel system instead of reinstalling windows entirely. I am first going to reflash the bios to the newest version. This is all weird man, sketching me out.
  3. Okay, I tried it and the same issue and series of events happened. I also tried running with the power cables for the gpu disconnected and I got a screen saying "PLUG POWER CABLES INTO THE GRAPHICS CARD" which likely wouldn't happen if no power is being detected in the first place right?
  4. Thanks, I will try that during lunch and see if I come right. I didn't think it would be necessary since the motherboard was indicating the gpu was at fault
  5. I haven't tried to clear CMOS yet, I will double check if it is my storage. My OS is on a fairly new samsung sata ssd. I cannot get into the bios screen.
  6. Hi all, I have been googling for a good day now and cannot find the answer to this issue. System rundown: CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x (wraith spire prism) Motherboard: MSI B550 tomahawk RAM: G. Skill Ripjaws V 16GB 3200MHz GPU: Gigabyte GTX 970 windforce PSU: Cooler master v650 80 plus Gold (old version, the semi modular one) Connected to an online UPS Symptoms: Fans all spin (system, gpu, cpu etc) Black screen with flashing _ in the top left corner. vga LED is lit at this point and the screen turns off Now, I live in south africa and there was a power supply two nights ago while I was gaming and the system was working perfectly. I saved and quit out before switching off the pc then after it was done I switched off the UPS because it beeps. The next day while I was working the power went off (I use a work laptop not my personal rig) and I left everything on during the power outage in order to work. When I tried to switch on my pc later that night I ran into the above mentioned issues. My question really is whether it could be my gpu or psu that is dead? I have bought a second hand gtx 1080 that is confirmed working and will maybe be here tomorrow evening so I can test with that but I don't have ready access to a power supply.
  7. I am replacing the 2x 140mm fans that came with the case. They never really kept the system cool, ambient in my home office is 28C on a cold summers day. Has been as high as 32C. I have found some local online stores that have what I need, I am also going to start hitting up the local hardware stores tomorrow to see if they have sleeving or heatshrink. I can get from aliexpress, I saw some internal connectors that look like they will work. Aliexpress stackable usb 3.0 I am currently on the fence trying to figure out if I will need a fan controller (the case has an integrated 3 fan hub, I would like it to be pwm but then I would need this) since it would be 4 system fans, 1 of which would plug into the motherboard and something like an AIO would be easy if it were a fractal design s36 since the fan cables are put into a single connector. I am just in the pre-planning stage right now, all your guy's answers have been very helpful, I really appreciate it.
  8. Sorry I really have not posted in 5 years I believe. I have a fractal design define r5. I didnt know that pci cards existed that provided internal connectors? I don't mind spending money on the mods, amazon and import tariffs are brutal in south Africa. $12 item becomes 36$ because of import fees. Thanks for your time!
  9. I really like the aesthetic of triple fans in the front. It is not really relevant how much air is being pushed but rather aesthetic. Though the two included fans are dying at the moment and I am going to go get 4 corsair AF120mm fans because I have a local guy who has a reasonable rate. Thanks for the advice. The motherboard I am upgrading to has usb 3.0, might have usb 3.1, I do not really mind if I dont have front usb-c as that would be a difficult mod to toold out a new panel. Maybe I can just add the connector and keep the current paneling there with a usb c on the side I guess?
  10. Good day LTT forum! It has been quite a long time since I have been here. I recently ran into the singularity computers youtube channel which has inspired me to take a look at modding away some of the gripes I have about my case. I live in south africa, not too far from Johannesburg (1 hour drive). This is very important, it means that online options like amazon and such are prohibitively expensive usually. The main issues: I want to turn the front USB 2.0 into a USB 3.0 I want to mod the front panel to allow 3 - 120mm fans to be installed there. I want to individually sleeve all the front panel connectors while I am modding the USB 2.0 section using PET sleeving. I Want to make a Power supply shroud as my current psu is ugly. In progress learning how to individually sleeve those cables. My questions: Where do I find any sort of logic board for USB 3.0 headers. I know how to solder but I do not know where to get those parts. Would a drill with a 120mm hole punch work for an aluminum panel? Where do modders usually get PET or para-cord sleeving? I would assume that a hobby shop would be a good place to start. Depending on the look that I am going for I might just cut 2 aluminum panels and then screw them together using a elbow join at a few spots. I will investigate whether any hardware stores near me have tools that can be used to bend aluminum nicely. Where should I look to go buy heat shrink? Would it be in an electrical hardware store? If you read this, thank you. I am just doing some excessive research for my build. I want to make it something that I can be extremely proud of and maybe include my dad in the build process.
  11. That's why he wants to wait for coffee lake xps 15. Any experience with that machine. One of my classmates has an xps 13, is the screen on the 15 as good as that or better?
  12. R5 2500u? Sorry, I'm from South Africa I'm assuming that's an amd based laptop... I don't spend tonnes of time in the laptop world so I'm a bit out of my depth. So are there documented issues with the xps 15 line? He's probably going to be running around and travelling a lot next year since he's emigrating from South Africa to Australia so I think the xps would be great if the build holds up for 4 or so years
  13. Hey all, my friend is a graphics designer. He needs a new laptop and he's very interested in the new xps 15 with coffee lake and a gtx 1050ti, he would like 4k and a super colour accurate display for around 2300 dollars. I'm not quite sure what to recommend. He has a wacom drawing pad that he uses and he doesn't have an issue with storage. He says 16 gig ram is preferable and an option for thunderbolt 3 to use his 1070 externally would be ideal. I thought maybe if he got an Asus gaming laptop with a 1070 and an 8750H for instance and used an external monitor for colour sensitive work that might be an option worth considering. What's your guys opinions?
