  1. First things first yes i realize there are not a lot of choices and yes I have done my homework but I'm trying to confirm it or possibly see things that I missed. My buddy wants a computer that he can play very specifically WoW on now at the best he can for 600 bucks. He already has a monitor. Its a lowly 60hz 1080p. Keyboard, mouse and headset are also covered. He plans on dumping another 600-700 into this in 3-4 months but in the mean time he wants to play now. We are going into peak season at work so he doesnt want to deal with building and what not a couple of weeks from now where he might literally only have an hour a day of free time to do things. (I know builds dont take long until they do. A part is bad and has to be reshippped blah blah blah). Because of the limited time he'll have later he wants it done now instead of saving for even another 100 or so. This is 600 pretax and shipping (we presume about 10% more to cover those). My initial thoughts are Ryzen 1500x - Picked over an intel i5 because he wants the option of streaming while playing GTX 1050 - Still debating if a RX 560 would be acceptable (could find a decent word on if 2 gb is enough so if anyone knows) 8gb DDR4 - Would really like 16gb if I can but holy hell did prices jump since last I build a system 256ish gb SSD - Would like 512 if possible to avoid having to reinstall things later. Probably the budget intel ssd with high read speeds as im not worried at all about the write speeds and its seems like an acceptable middle ground a budget of 80 for a tower (one of the harder things to justify replacing later honestly because even a video card can be resold much more easily which is why a little more early is okay) 30 bucks for a copy of windows (unless someone has a cheaper option im getting an unused copy from a relative.) Those are the only things that are set really. Ill just go cheapest on other parts that are reputable power supply ect. Im sure i could him 50 bucks towards it if needed as an early Christmas gift but the budget is pretty set besides that. Im more looking for feedback on things that i may have missed rather than specific builds. Maybe arguments towards one part or another or possible optional replacements. That kind of thing. Thanks in advanced.
  2. A wee bit off topic why do you want 3 way sli? Any vids you can check out clearly show its a terrible idea with many games not even launching. I could understand 3 cards non sli'ed for things like rendering though.
  3. If it does support ddr3 then yes you can. Typically with ddr3 and ddr4 that speed is an overclock and thus can be tuned down
  4. Im going to be honest at about 40 bucks the 128 is a good idea. You dont want to fill a 64 just to have to buy a 128 anyway. Though I get the sense based on the cases I've seen they intend for you to have multiple micro sd cards. Mine came with a plastic case to hold 6 games and 4 micro sd cards. Its a bit weird.
  5. He's got 500gb on ssds and 2tb on drives. Not exactly "little amounts"
  6. Check out the intel 600p or the new WD black m.2. They lack the write speeds but they have near the read performance at a fraction of the price. (still better write speeds than the sata drives)
  7. Thats questionable. Maybe it will follow the trend but with better power management in pascal and that many more cores we will see. Also if you didnt know they announced a new Titan Xp like yesterday
  8. the 1080ti is 700 the Xp is 1200. If you can find a sale a wee bit later you can probably grab 2 1080ti for the price of the titan. SLI 1080 ti absolutely dominate the xp .
  9. Maybe you still have nvidia drivers lurking about from the previous card?
  10. The 7600k isnt "supported" by windows 7 or 8 which is bull shit. They basically wont give you even just the security updates for kaby lake. Skylake is still a go if I remember. Clearly though the 7600k is a better processor but like others have said the OC potential isnt worth what a locked i7 will bring normally and they are pretty close in price.
  11. Companies dont have to collect out of state tax. If a company has a physical warehouse in a state they must charge sales tax in that state if its applicable. Most states now have started to charge you when you pay your taxes if you made any untaxed purchases. Its currently nearly impossible to verify. Amazon knows that in many states its coming that they will be required to collect those taxes so in many states they have been starting to collect taxes in places that didnt before. Newegg is big enough that I bet they will start charging tax in every state. Its easier to get that system in place at thier own pace than at the pace set by what ever state or possibly the federal government.
  12. I was going to say that it isnt entirely true if the 802.11AC is in a pcie slot. It would depend on the motherboard and how its layed out. Some of them push the pcie x1 through the DMI and use an actual pcie lane. However since nvidia doesnt allow less than 8x for each card other wise they just wont work it isnt the case in this particular case.
  13. Some games simple arent happy with SLI. Some games see no performance boost at all and infact things like stuttering get introduced. Did you research if Fallout was one of those games.
  14. Oddly enough its standard practice for them. I'm glad you worked things out. I suspect that they hacker tried to get a refund and then use that to buy things. In a way it makes sense. Say you need to return a headset you bought for a better one. If you have to wait a week for amazon to return your money maybe you have forgotten by then or changed your mind. By getting the refund quickly and giving you a bit of lee way to return they can in turn make it more likely that you will turn around and spend the money again.
  15. If they gave you a refund for something you still have they are expecting it. They will recharge you for it if they don't receive the item in some time frame. Be careful and explain things to them to make sure.
