  2. Hi, I have a Logitech G920 wheel on my Windows 10 PC and leave it plugged into the USB port and powered on. It does the usual calibration thing where it spins left and right when I first turn my computer on but after that, when I am not in a game and just on my desktop or browsing the web etc, if I slightly knock the wheel off-centre, then it starts juddering left and right quite violently and goes even worse if I don't realign it dead-centre, see this video for what I mean: https://1drv.ms/v/s!AsjTVphmsHsy6lA19a6uZeVXjoPo It get's really bad if I don't move it back to the middle and I have to be really careful not to knock it again. I know the simple answer is to just unplug it (which I do now) but I was wondering if anyone knows why it does this and how to fix it? It's fine once I'm in a game and I have no issues with the FFB, it's purely just outside of a game. I have Windows 10 build 19042 20H2 and I am using Logitech G Hub version 2021.2.7359. Thanks for any help anyone can give.
  3. Hi, I am struggling with overclocking on my Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Wifi board with an i7 9700K. I am trying to follow this guide: https://www.gigabyte.com/FileUpload/Global/multimedia/2/file/525/946.pdf but it refers to an earlier bios version (I am on F12c and it looks quite different) and also makes suggestions for a 9900K. I tried some of their suggested settings (set my clock ratio to 50, Vcore to 1.31v, LLC set to Auto and AVX set to Auto) but the computer just gets to the bios logo screen and then freezes and won't boot into Windows for me to try testing. I have gone back into the bios and reset everything now to defaults so I can get back into Windows. Do I need to try setting my clock to a lower setting or my Vcore or both? I am not sure what I should be starting at or aiming for. Should I start low and increase in small increments or start high and decrease? I am using a Noctua NH-U12A air cooler btw. A lot of the guides I have read or watched, even specifically using a Gigabyte board tend to be for 9900K's or with much older bios versions. For instance many guides say to set the TjMAX Temperature to 110 degrees but I can't find that setting in the bios as the latest version (F12c) doesn't show it. Plus once I manage to get into Windows, there is a lot of conflicting advice about whether to use Prime95 or not and whether you need an AVX offset. Also, should I have Windows Power Plan set to High Performance? It's currently set to balanced as I assumed only having things ramp up when the system is under load would be best but I have seen suggestions for overclocking and gaming in general to set it to High Performance. I'm just so confused so any suggestions would be great thanks.
  4. Thanks very much for the suggestions. I can't put a fan in the bottom as I have the drive bay enclosure attached because I am using it for storage, best I can do is just use the bottom front intake fan to blow on the GPU (I have set it to use the PCIEX16 tempp sensor on the motherboard). I think I might try removing the front roof fan and just leaving the rear roof fan and rear fan as exhaust. That way I will have 2 front intakes and 2 exhausts and perhaps a more balanced system. My CPU cooler is orientated vertically so that the fans are blowing air out of the back of the case. I don't think I am going to be taxing my system very heavily and so far have seen CPU temperatures of around 55 celcius when gaming and GPU of around 64 celcius and maxing around 70 when under load. I thought I had overclocked the CPU to 4.8 GHz, I ran the Intel Performance Maximizer program and it said it could go from 4.6 to 4.8 but maybe I should uninstall that in order to get boost speeds of 4.9 GHz.

Hi, I have just finished my new build with a Meshify C case, i7 9700K OC'ed to 4.8 GHz, Noctua NH-U12A CPU cooler, Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Wifi motherboard, 2 x 8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport LT RAM and a Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super Windforce OC 3x 8G GPU oh and a Corsair TXM 750W PSU. Anyway, I went ahead and bought a bunch of fans, 4 x Noctua NF-A14 PWM fans and 1 x Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM fan. I have stuck 2 of the 140's in the front as intake, the 120 in the back as exhaust and the other 140's in the roof, one set to exhaust near the rear of the case and the other set to intake near the front. I'm wondering if that's the best setup? I have 3 intake and 2 exhaust with this configuration but I don't know if the roof fans are needed or whether I just need one at the rear as exhaust and nothing else in the front roof? I have set all the fans to use the VRM temp sensor on the motherboard but I might set the bottom front intake to use the PCIEX16 sensor to help cool the GPU seeing as it's facing it. I can't put a fan in the bottom of the case as I am using the drive bays for a couple HDD's but I don't know if it would be of much benefit anyway. Any help on best setup would be great please.
  6. Thanks very much for the reply. I have attached a screenshot of Gigabyte's SIV software which shows the Smart Fan 5 settings to control the fans and a layout of where the temperature sensors are. At the moment I have set all the case fans to use the VRM sensor but there is an option to assign one of the fans to the PCIEX16 sensor which may help to cool the GPU or maybe even the PCH sensor. I have two 140mm fans at the front both as intake, one 120mm fan at the rear as exhaust and two 140mm fans in the roof. One nearest the back/CPU is set to exhaust and then the one nearest the front is set to intake to blow down air towards the two front 140mm intake fans. I don't know if that's the best setup though, seeing as I have 5 case fans in total, there is always going to be either more intake or more exhaust so I don't know what the best option is, other than to perhaps take out one of the roof fans near the front so I just have one near the back over the CPU.

Hi, I have just built a new computer using the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Wifi motherboard, an Intel i7 9700K CPU (overclocked to 4.8 GHz), 2 x 8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 3000 MHz ram and a RTX 2070 Super GPU. I am using a Fractal Design Meshify C case and a Noctua NH-U12A CPU cooler. I have switched out the fans that came with the case and instead have attached some extra fans. I have 2 x Noctua NF-A14 PWM fans in the front as intake, 2 x NF-A14 fans in the top/roof as exhaust and 1 x NF-A12x25 PWM fan in the rear as an exhaust. I have gone into the Smart Fan 5 settings in my bios (I am on version F12c) and checked what settings the fans are using. Please could someone advise me what the best settings would be to use and in particular what to set the Fan Speed Control to (all fans and CPU cooler are set to Normal at the moment) and what Temperature Input each fan should use. I have read that it's best to set the fans to use the VRM MOS sensor but I don't know if that's right. At the moment they are set as follows (the fans are just connected to whichever header was nearest or or easiest to connect to): CPU fan is set to use the CPU temperature input (which is fine so I will leave that). System 1 fan (which is my rear exhaust fan) is set to use System 1 temperature input. System Fan 2 (which is my roof exhaust fan at the back nearest to the CPU) is set to System 1 temperature input. System Fan 3 (which is my front intake fan at the bottom of the case and pointing towards the GPU) is set to System 1 temperature input. System Fan 4 (unoccupied). System Fan 5 Pump (which is my roof exhaust fan at the front just above the ram) is set to CPU temperature input. System Fan 6 Pump (which is my front intake fan at the top pointing towards the CPU) is set to CPU temperature input. All of the fans are set to PWM control mode. I am not bothered about having a specific curve as I just want the fans to ramp up and down depending on what's best for the system so I am happy to leave them set to auto as noise isn't an issue. Oh and I have also read it's best to use the bios for fan settings rather than the SIV but I don't know if that's true or not. If the SIV is fine to use then I can just use that as it's easiest done from within Windows anyway. Sorry for this long post and thanks for any help people can give.
  8. I'm not really that bothered about a reclining feature as I don't tend to lean back in my chair. I usually sit quite upright as I use keyboard and mouse a lot and sometimes a steering wheel and pedals for driving games. My chair has the ability to allow the backrest to move freely forward and back or lock it into position but I don't know whether to have it moving freely as I move forward and back or to lock it into a more upright position. I have read that the Secretlabs Omega is supposed to be a good chair as are the Herman Miller Aeron and Mirra chairs but before I go dropping £200-300 on a chair (second hand most likely with the Herman Miller's), I will try the memory foam cushions first that I ordered from Amazon. Sitting in my chair isn't too bad but when I am in bed at night, my back really hurts and it's hard to get any rest or sleep. I was even wondering if it's my mattress but I've only had it a couple of years. It's a pocket-sprung mattress with a 1000 springs and a memory foam top but I don't know if I would be better off with an all memory-foam mattress or something firmer? I have tried sleeping on the floor which is the ultimate firm surface but this made me feel worse (but I think that's mostly because laying on my back really hurts after a while). I even have tried a V-shaped pillow and sleeping with a pillow between my knees when on my side but I can't get comfortable or stay in the same position too long without my back or hips hurting. I'm hoping perhaps getting my computer chair sorted out will lead to my back getting rested and getting better. Oh and I do have a recliner 3-piece suite and sit on the recliner chair to watch TV but I don't like sitting in the reclined position with my feet up, just doesn't feel right to me which is weird because when I had a two-seater sofa, I could sit with my legs up across it and feel fine and relaxed. The recliner chairs/sofa I have now just doesn't feel the same. Anyway, hopefully these new cushions will help.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm a little reluctant to buy a gaming chair like the DXRacer ones as some people say they aren't great for your back, plus they tend to be overpriced for what they are just because of the whole gamer tag thing. If I were to get a chair, it would probably be an ergonomic office chair of some kind. I have read good reviews of the Herman Miller Aeron and Mirra chairs but they are very expensive (even used). Also, no offence but shouldn't you feel both comfortable and supported when sat in a chair? It seems like you have more of a chronic pain issue as it's there all the time and you have learned to live with it but for me, my pain isn't a constant and seems to be more exacerbated when sat down for long periods or when in bed (which again could be a result of when I have been sat down all day and my body is responding when in bed).

  11. Hi, sorry for starting yet another "please recommend me a chair" thread but I am in a lot of pain and hoping for some good advice about what to do. I currently have a Comfort Ergo 3-Lever Operator Chair https://www.officefurnitureonline.co.uk/office-chairs/operator-chairs/operator-chairs-less-than-75/comfort-ergo-3-lever-operator-chairs.html and have had it since 2016. The seat padding has gone somewhat as after a few hours my bum starts to hurt and it feels quite hard to sit on but I know this is a common problem with these cheap chairs. What's more of an issue though is the lower back pain I get from sitting on the chair. I can sit for a good few hours at my desk and get up every so often to have a walk around but do notice a pain in my back. This is significantly worse when I go to bed at night. Laying on my back or even sides gives me a lot of pain and discomfort and so I end up moving around all night trying to get comfortable and pain-free. I have to make sure I don't lay on my back too long (we're talking minutes) as then when I try to get up or change position, then my back will really hurt and I also wake up in the morning feeling very stiff and in pain. This does go away after walking around a bit and generally during the day, when I'm not sitting down, I feel fine. It's mostly just when I'm sat at my desk or in bed at night that the pain starts. Anyway, the reason why I think my chair may be either causing or adding to the pain is because just before Christmas I moved house and so didn't have my PC set up and didn't use it or sit at my desk for around a month. I noticed my back started to decrease and laying in bed also improved a bit but as soon as I started gaming again, the problem started to come back more and more. I am on a waiting list to see a physiotherapist but that's going to be a few months yet and so I was wondering if perhaps changing my chair may help in the meantime? I am not sure if my current chair is giving me enough lumbar support, you can adjust a lever to make the backrest stay in one position or have it moving freely as you lean forward and back. It has a sort of cutaway in the backrest where your spine goes but I have seen other chairs that seems to have more of a cushion/padding that sticks out and goes into the small of your back, I wonder if that might be better? Please could anyone give me some advice about either getting a new chair or ways I could improve my current situation? I am 5ft 7in and weigh 76kg so I am not a big guy. Thanks for any help.
  12. I think perhaps a lot of the issues are that SteamVR and VR in general seems to be more geared toward Nvidia cards than AMD. Don't get me wrong, I can play VR games with my 290X, some with better performance than others but generally speaking I have to make sure most in-game settings are on low to get a smoother and less frame-dropping experience. Even in SteamVR Home when turning my head sometimes or moving from inside to outside the house, I notice frame drops but if I stay still and don't move around much then it's ok. I have tried disabling and enabling Async Reprojection (which I'm not sure my AMD card supports anyway, I think it only does Interleaved) but then that reduces my frame rate down to 45fps and seems to introduce some blurry-ness and double vision. Regardless of whether I have Async on or off, I still get a lot of frame dropping in games and judder. Plus in SteamVR Async Reprojection is tied in with Interleaved and you can't have one or the other on or off, they both are either on or off. I can't use Motion Smoothing as my card doesn't support it either. I'm pretty much convinced I need to switch to Nvidia at this point as even on a lower spec GPU, as long as it's Nvidia I'm sure I would get much better performance in VR. I think another big issue for me is the terrible SDE of the Vive so hopefully one day I'll be able to get a much better headset but for now I am just concentrating on my GPU first and foremost. As I said, I may be able to have enough to do a whole new build, I'll know more by the end of the month.
  13. Thanks very much for all the replies, the consensus seems to be to just upgrade the GPU and not worry about the CPU for now which was my initial thought. Depending on budget I will probably get a 2070 Super but maybe 2080. I've just been looking at PC Part Picker to get an idea of budget builds and I could make a RTX 2080 TI system for less than 2 grand. Either using an i7 9700 or one of the AMD's like the 3600 or 3700. So if I do manage to get enough cash together for a completely new build then I know it's not quite as expensive as I thought. At the moment I have a Cooler Master G750M PSU and my current build was done in 2015. As you mentioned holly88, Nvidia are generally better for VR than AMD but at the time of building my last PC (or rather it was built for me by a family friend who didn't really know what he was doing but neither did I at the time), I didn't have a VR headset and didn't know I would be heading in that direction. After finding a great deal on a used Vive with DAS a few years ago, I got it and immediately got the VR bug but now really, really regret getting an AMD card. What I really want to do is be able to play Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator in VR with supersampling (which I can't do now) and with no stuttering or reprojection and without it looking like PS1-era graphics due to having to run it on such low settings. Anyway, thanks again for the advice. Hopefully sometime in September I'll know how much money I have spare and can make a decision on which graphics card to get and possibly (please God!!!) have enough to do a completely new build.

  15. Hi, I am hoping to finally have enough funds to upgrade something in my current system but I'm not sure what to get, in particular for VR gaming with my Vive. I currently have a Windows 10 Home PC 64 bit with Asus H81 Gamer mobo, i7 4790K (not OC) CPU, 16GB DDR3 RAM @1600MhZ and an AMD R9 290X GPU. I struggle to get a smooth or constant 90fps in most VR games and I know my GPU isn't really good enough for VR however my whole system could do with an upgrade really, in fact I could do with a completely new build. Unfortunately I don't think my budget will stretch that far and so I would rather upgrade one major component such as my GPU than spend months and months saving in the hope of eventually having enough for a new computer and be able to enjoy my PC now and play VR without any issues. I know if I just upgrade my GPU then my CPU will act as a bottleneck but will it be so much of a bottleneck that it will hold me back and make the upgrade pointless? Or will it just be a minor bottleneck that will still be an improvement over my current setup and improve things anyway, just not as good as if I also had a better CPU? I am leaning towards upgrading the GPU as if I just get a new mobo, CPU and RAM, then because of a lack of new GPU, they won't give me enough overall gain anyway and will only slightly make things better and if a lot of VR games are more GPU-heavy then I won't be getting much return on my investment. I would prefer to switch from AMD to Nvidia this time round and so I was thinking either a 2070 Super, 2080 Super or going all out for a 2080 TI if funds allow (this would be overkill I know but would give me the best GPU available if at a later date I do manage to save up enough for a CPU, mobo and RAM). Any advice would be appreciated.
