    Audio Help

Hey, If parts of your audio are coming though, but not others it sounds like you're only getting 2 audio channels through to your headphones. In other words it sounds like your PC is trying to playback surround sound, but only through to the "front speak " (Front speakers). So, anything that tries to play through the back, or maybe even center or side speakers isn't getting through to your headphones. I think you need to find a way to switch to stereo as opposed to surround sound. If you're on windows right click on the speaking in the system tray, click playback devices. From there you will need to look through the menus. I could be wrong, but sounds like a channel issue to me. Worth trying before you go buying anything.
  2. I tend to agree with this guy. You can get a free upgrade at the moment from any old windows 7, 8 or 8.1 keys you may have lying around! MS are giving 10 away free, don't waste your cash if at all possible. As for the comparison of pro to home (which is all you asked for, so please forgive the financial advice), as far as I know pro is just bundled with features that people may need in a business environment. Mostly 'integration' with Microsoft Active Directory. I don't think there any benefits with Pro for the average consumer. I imagine it's a way for MS to stick the big bills to large companies while enabling consumers to get the OS at a semi-reasonable price point. I could be wrong though, it's worth researching for yourself. Literally copy-pasting your question into Google brings up comparisons of the two versions from a number of 3rd party organisations.
  3. Thanks for the quality answers guys. I had never heard of these dedicated VM host OS's like Hyper-V, ESXi or proxmox. It sounds like this is definitely the way to go rather than installing a normal OS with a VM program added on. I'll read up on each and see which suits me best. Hyper-V is quite common in the industry so it would be good to have some experience with that, but the expectation of an AD domain puts me off slightly. Let the research commence Thanks again guys.
  4. Hello everyone, I'm getting some new hardware soon and I'm planning to completely format my personal server and start fresh. The plan is to run a dedicated VM for each service that the server performs. Just standard things consumers need servers for... low traffic PHP webhosting, personal 'cloud' storage, torrenting and perhaps a few other things down the line. My question is the following... What, in your opinion, is best for the job of being the hardware installed OS and why? The following are the criteria I have currently considered in order of importance: load implications - How much resource will the OS hog to itself? I've heard windows is worst than Linux variants here, true? The hardware isn't great, 775 based currently, but likely to improve over time. Ease of use - I'm slightly attached to GUIs, I am comfortable with CLIs within my OS and will even consider an entirely CLI based OS, but I would rather not go down that route. Remote access - I currently use Team viewer, but need any easy way to control my host OS when I need to create a new VM or increase the resources on a VM which is being used heavily at a particular time. Licensing options - Linux distros are more or less free; I can install windows illegitimately, but I'm trying to move away from that stuff these days. There are likely other things I should be considering, so, let me know... What OS do you think is best for this task and why?
  5. You mentioned you just wanted to move the database to a new server... Recovering SA passwords is a real pain that it sounds like you can avoid. I would recommend looking through the SQL server installation directory and grabbing the yourdatabasename.mdf and yourdatabasename.ldf files. The MDF is the actual database, and the LDF is the transaction log which oddly enough you need. Install SQL onto your new server and through the new database wizard you can select those two files to create the database exactly as it was before. It sounds a bit hacky, but it works. I've done it several times for valuable clients who can't keep track of passwords. Oh, this guy has made a video that looks about right... Good luck
  6. Might be easier to get a screenshot or an exact word for word copy of what the error says. Also open your system menu and see what version you have at the bottom left of the menu (your SKSE version is also listed there) (Edit: you can open system menu while in game by pressing esape) If you can get those versions along with the exact error message we can probably offer you some more accurate help rather than just guessing at potential causes
  7. Some mods these days are requiring the BETA versions of SKSE. My game errors each time asking for version 1.7.2 while 1.7.1 is the latest stable release. Check you have SKSE 1.7.1 at least. You can download new versions here (http://skse.silverlock.org/) It's also worth running LOOT to fix your load order (This guy makes good videos: ) It sounds like the underlying problem is that your skyrim is not up to date. You could verify integrity of game cache in Steam to see what happens.
  8. Dude, I think you can be confident you'll max out windows experience index. It's a bit of a lame index anyway, as toxic says, it doesn't really mean much. If it really bothers you that it wont run try and get the error message that it leaves you when if fails. You can try googling that, or post again here and someone can probably take a look.
  9. I'd recommend buying most stuff second hadn to save money, that way you can get a semi-decent GPU.
  10. Eish, that sucks. The clip shouldn't really matter, just make sure it's plugged in all the way. Can you test the GPUS in another system to ensure they aren't problematic? Have you tried clearing cmos or resetting your BIOS settings? always worth trying.
  11. Looks good. I'd say how about making the wall mounting point behind the arm that holds the headphones. Then the arm could somehow slot onto the wall plate. That way you hide the ugly wall screws away. Just an idea
  12. My idea was to scrap the waterblock/pump combo and use the radiator in the future. radiators that size are about £50 alone so would make a nice dent in the price of a new custom loop. At the end of the day it's only about £40 more than a nice 240 mm radiator version so it seems like a good deal. Another closed loop on the GPU may be a better long term idea than cutting and chopping things apart, who knows. The only challenge I see in incorporating the radiator into a custom loop would be tubing size, it does looks fairly thin on the Fractal S36. Anyway, thanks for the ideas and warning guys, all good stuff
  13. Ah, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fractal-Design-Kelvin-S36-cooling/dp/B00LA70AOS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1432043815&sr=8-1&keywords=Fractal+Design+S36 Thanks Tagiau, that looks way better. Works for this application perfectly. Not really necessary at the moment, no. But at least it's got a big radiator in case I ever want to expand on the loop to include a GPU as well.
  14. Hey, In the past I have seen Blue screening caused by a bad windows install. To try fix this you could look at reformatting, reinstalling windows... Otherwise it could be caused by a strange setting in BIOS (If your board isn't UEFI, but same should apply either way.). To fix this look for a reset to defaults option in BIOS.. Or try clearing C-MOS, (remove the little battery on the board for like 30seconds) If that doesn't help try get a photo or something of the Blue screen message, your phone camera should be fine for this.
