  1. So I enabled the XMP profile, but instead of upping the voltage I lowered the speed to 3000mhz. So far that is working. Wil the 200mhz make any noticeable difference?
  2. Hi all, Thank you so much in advance for any help I am given. I set the system to the XMP profile for 3200Mhz in the BIOS and my computer tries to start and fails 3 times then requires me to enter the bios to fix the issue. I tried setting the ram to 3200mhz but leaving everything else auto and that fails as well. Any advice? 3. Hey guys, I am currently trying to decide if I should buy a second Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming (I already own 1) or wait a bit longer and buy a GTX 1080 (I really like the Asus GTC 1080 Strix). Here is my current setup Asus Maximus VIII Hero Core i7-6700k 48GB DDR4 3200MHz Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming BenQ XL2720z I know my monitor is only 1080p, but it is 144Hz and I really want to be able to run every game I play at max settings and with a consistent minimum of 60FPS. Plus I am buying one or the other, so don't ask why I need more at 1080p please. I would really appreciate some feedback and suggestions here. I know the 1080 is new and not many reviews are out yet and most reviews that are out aren't full reviews. I have looked at all of the specs for the AIB partner cards that are out and I really like the Asus GTX 1080 Strix. I definitely don't want a Founder's Edition card. I assume the 1080 Strix will be available soon, but haven't seen if in stock anywhere yet. I don't mind waiting a few weeks. I am leaning towards the 1080, but I'm not 100% sure yet. I also have an EKWB Predator 360 with QDC. I would like to watercool my video card/s. I know the EK full cover block is available for the 970s, the 1080 block should be out by July hopefully, but that is not a huge issue. Buying 1 more 970 and 2 pre-filled EK full cover blocks is about the same price as a 1080 without the full cover block. What does everyone here think?
  4. He uses it for gaming. He only uses 1 of the 1080p monitors for gaming, not all 3. I think I will recommend he get a better screen for gaming.
  5. Sorry, I just updated the OP. He already hasa 4TB and a 2TB mechanical drive. If he has two video cards in SLI (either his current 670s, or two 970s or 980s) can he also add a pci-express ssd? does the i7-3770 and his mobo have enough pci-e lanes?
  6. My buddy keeps asking me what would be the best upgrade for his computer. Here are his specs: ASUS Sabertooth z77 Intel Core i7-3770 (non-k version, he has no interest in overclocking despite my suggestions) 2x Nvidia GTX 670 4GB 32GB 1600MHz DDR3 240GB OCZ Agility 3 Thermaltake Level 10 GT Case 3x 1080p monitors (idk the exact screens, but they are very basic, 60hz, TN panel, nothing special) He has a 240mm AIO liquid cooler, idr which one though ::EDIT:: He also has a 4TB and a 2TB mechanical drive He is a huge Nvidia, Intel, and ASUS fan boy so he really only wants to get products from them when possible. He can't give me a firm price range despite me telling him that is really necessary for any suggestions. He said if he upgraded the video cards he could go as high as $1000. I think for that rande a singe GTX 980 Ti would be best. What do you guys think? Would 2x 980s be better? Would 2x 970s be better? I think that an IPS G-Sync screen for his main screen would be a good upgrade (maybe a 1440p one like the Acer model). What upgrades would you guys suggest? Also, if he sticks with 2 video cards, either the ones he has now or two new 970s or 980s, can his CPU and Motherboard handle adding a PCI-E based SSD? Does he have enough PCI-E lanes?
  7. Hey guys, I am currently thinking about switching the radiator on my Raijintek Triton. This will be my first attempt at custom liquid cooling and I wanted to know if the parts I have chosen will be compatible. So currently, I have a Raijintek Triton, an AMD FX-8350, and a Phanteks Enthoo Pro. I want to take off the 240mm rad from the Triton (I may decide to leave the 240mm and just move it to the front of the case, we'll see) and add a Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 Full Copper 420mm at the top of my case with PrimoChill ICE Non-Conductive Liquid Cooling Fluid and 3x Noctua NF-A14 industrialPPC 3000 PWM 140mm Fans. My questions are will this radiator work with the included tubing and fittings that come with the Triton? Are there any other compatibility issues I should know about? If I decide to use both radiators, do you guys think the built in Triton pump/res will be powerful enough? Also, if I decide to add in my single Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming to the loop (with or without the stock 240mm Triton rad) will the Triton pump/res combo work or will I need a new pump, res, and cpu block? Thanks in advance
  8. I see a lot of posts on forums about what graphics cards people are running and many variations on that but I have never seen one dedicated to anti virus. And I an curious, what anti virus is everyone using? Also, what is your expertise with it? How long have you used it? And any other things you would like to add. Ill start of. For a couple of weeks now I have been running the free version of bitdefender. I kept seeing Microsoft Security Essentials (or Windows Defender if your above Win 8) has been getting lower scores on some test sites and thought I should get familiar with some other options. Prior to bitdefender I was just running whatever is built into the windows 10 tech preview. I usually dont run any sort of maintenence on my personal rig because I have nothing of value stored on it and I love to mess around with different settings on my computer and I end up reinstalling my OS a few times a month. It may be crazy, but I enjoy it. Abs before any one says I should just make an image and restore from that, I have thought any it, but i have reinstalled so many times it doesn't take me that long and I enjoy it.
  9. I appreciate the in-depth reply. I will recommend recommend him the i3. I am looking through the wikipedia article now. your response is very enlightening. Thank you.
  10. thats the thing, he will be editing. he will be using maya and autocard and the adobe suite like photoshop
  11. okay, i like your suggestions. I also thought about this build. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/42zDK8 I went on tomshardware and the best gaming cpu for this month is the i3-4160 and the fx-6300 is an honorable mention, they say the i3 may be a bit faster, but the amd is a bit cheaper and has more cores and is overclockable, also, unless i pick up a good motherboard it wont be worth upgrading to an i5 and definitely not an i7. I'll show im i_build_nanosuits build. I personally don't like boards that arent at least standard ATX, and i like the ASRock 970 Extreme3 because it has crossfire support in case he ever wants to upgrade down the road
  12. Hey guys, my buddy is on a really really tight budget. He wants to upgrade his computer a little right now. Currently he has an Intel Core 2 quad q6600 and a Geforce 8800 Gtx. He can only afford a new cpu motherboard and ram right now, i recommended this to him. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HbtdMp What do you guys think? He can't really spend much more than that. I know there is no ram, I am waiting for him to let me know if he can afford a 16gb kit or not. Any thoughts on what to change. He wants a computer that will play space engineers and eve online better than the one he has now, and he needs to be able to run programs like maya and autocad and the Adobe suite pretty well because he is starting college soon.
  13. i would love to buy a new drive but i dont have the money right now. I dont want to use spanned volume or any OS based option cause i am regularly reinstalling my os for various reasons, i ended up just putting my 2 1TB in Raid 0 and i found a 3rd 120GB ssd (didnt realize i had put it in my old external enclosure lol, so i put my 2 128gb and 1 120gb ssds in raid 0, left my main 240gb alone as the os drive and my 500gb alone
  14. Hey guys, I have 3 Western Digital hard drives, 2 at 1TB and 1 is 500GB, i was wondering if there is any way to make them 1 logical drive. I have an Asus Sabertooth 990FX Rev1 motherboard. I dont want to use a software based solution, it needs to be outside of the OS. Any ideas? i might just put the 2 1TB is Raid 0 and leave the 500GB separate, but i would like to have all 3 together with 2.5TB available.
  15. I would love to have this. I would hook it up to my dumb HDTV and use it as a media center pc and a steam streaming pc.
  16. finished the test, i put 2 200mm fans on top, 1 is directly over the rad the other is towards the front of the case, not over the rad, the idle temps went from 27 C to 29 C. I am gonna take the fan that is directly over the rad out and leave the other in and see what happens, i imagine it wont affect the cpu but it may cool the interior of the case off, my video card is an aftermarket card which blows air into the case not that bs blower crap
  17. Hey guys, I installed a Raijintek Triton AIO liquid cooler into my Cooler Master HAF X case last week. I have it at the top of my case, where the 200mm fan that came with the case was, i removed it to install the rad and fans, and i didnt put it back, but the way the case is set up i could put it back. Right now I have the Fans in pull on top of the rad, so they are pulling air through the rad and blowing it out the top of the case. Do you think it would make sense to put the 200mm fan back in? I dont care about noise, do you think it would help move the air or do you think it would get in the way... I guess i have to try it and test the temps, but i want to know what you guys think.
  18. that's load. i got those temps after running prime95 Small FFT for about 15 minutes
  19. Okay, I will try that. Would it be better to run 4x 8GB sticks at 1600Mhz? or just stick with 2x 8GB sticks at 1600Mhz?
  20. finally got my triton in the mail. Received the first 1 last week but it was leaking when i opened the box, so had to RMA it, got the replacement and it is amazing. went from 60.8°C when OC'd to 4.5Ghz to 40.6°C with the same OC
  21. thanks man, i will test these settings soon. I have 2 16GB kits, 1 of them is 1333mhz and 1 is 1600mhz but i would rather have 32gb at 1333mhz vs 16gb at 1600mhz, if i remember linus' video correct, the speed doesnt affect performance much ::EDIT:: with the current settings I posted in the first post, when I run Prime95 the Core Voltage in CPU-Z jumps to 1.488v. Is that where it should be monitored? or should I raise it from the 1.46v in the bios to 1.488v (cause i belive cpu-z will show it to be 1.500v if i do that). why does the voltage in CPU-z differ from the bios setting, should it just be a constant voltage...
  22. Hey guys, I am hoping to get some help on overclocking my AMD FX-8350 to 5Ghz. I am starting to think I have lost the silicon lottery, but wanted to see if anyone has any advice first. Here are my specs: AMD FX-8350 ASUS Sabertooth 990FX Gen 1 Raijintek Triton Dual 120mm AIO Liquid cooler Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming edition (just 1 for now) Windows 8.1 x64 Cooler Master HAF X case Here are my current BIOS settings BIOS Settings CPU ratio 24 Turbo Core off CPU bus 200 Pci frequency auto Memory 1333mhz Cpu/nb 2200mhz Ht link 2600mhz Cpu spread spectrum off Pcie spread spectrum off Epu power saving mode off CPU load line calibration extreme Cpu/nb load line calibration extreme CPU current capability 140% Cpu/nb current capability 130% Cpu power phase control extreme CPU voltage frequency CPU power duty control c.probe current CPU manual voltage 1.468750 Cpu/nb manual voltage 1.2 Dram voltage 1.5 Cool N quiet always disabled C1e disabled Svm disabled Core c6 state disabled Hpc mode disabled Apm master mode disabled Iommu disabled Hpet enabled I have tried a number of things, I started overclocking with the cpu bus but i couldnt get to 4.8Ghz stable, with the CPU ratio I am now at 4.8Ghz and stable and with decent temps, after running Prime95 Small FFT for about 15 minutes, my temps are 55.9°. Does any1 have any suggestions on how to get my cpu to 5ghz?? also, CPU-Z doesnt show my Core Voltage the same as my BIOS, it shows it as 1.440v to 1.452v idle, when in my BIOS (i guess, technically, UEFI) the cpu voltage is set to 1.468750. any ideas... thanks guys, hopefully i can get this to work. I tried for many hours yesterday to get my overclock any higher than 4.8ghz, but couldnt get it stable.
  23. Hey guys, I ordered a Raijintek Triton off of newegg a few hours ago. Any1 using this cooler? I found 2 videos about this cooler on youtube by the same guy, 1 unboxed and 1 short review. Just wanted to say I will be posting my first videos to youtube once I get this cooler. Also, I think linus and the team should get one of these and review it. It looks really awesome. For $99 usd it looks poised to be one of the best coolers for the price if it performs well (I really love the expandability).
  24. Ok, this might be an odd question, but here goes. I just received my Superlux 668Bs I ordered after watching the Tek Syndicate's Headphones under $50 video with Tyler (amazing video btw). sadly I can't afford a DAC/AMP right now, but my friend gave me his old Yamaha RX-V371 receiver he just replaced, I am wondering if it makes sense to use this with my computer and these headphones. I really don't know much about audio, I'm in the process of testing the difference with using the receiver and just my build in motherboard audio. Also, right now the receiver is hooked up through the HDMI port on my GTX 470 (getting a 970 tomorrow). Is that gonna make a difference? should i get an optical cable and use the port on my mobo? any other suggestions?
