  1. As far as I'm aware, that isn't normal. However, it shouldn't affect cooling performance. Does anyone smoke in the household?
  2. Before temps After temps So, I think I was right in what I was assuming. Would it be possible to mount a fan around that area? It dropped the temps by 25C, and it looks a whole lot better that way. After you can try to lower fan speeds until you hit around 70-75C. To make it quieter.
  3. OK, I trust HWInfo more, and it looks like your PSU is OK. I'm not sure how much I trust that PSU in my big rig, but I've used worse. Temps still seem to be relatively high. Would it be possible to hold that fan right next to that left VRM heatsink just to see how temps are? The motherboard may have relied on a CPU fan to help cool that area, and it's kinda in a dead zone with how that radiator is mounted.

  5. Actually, you might have been right with your PSU being a problem. 5v should be running at 5v and 12 at 12. If those are right, that explains why the mosfets are so hot. I want you to get HWInfo64 and see if the voltages are the same. If possible borrow a known good PSU to see if the motherboard is outputting the correct voltages. If you have a volt meter, testing with that would also be a good thing to do.

  7. Even 50% looks reasonable to me. I wouldn't go much lower than that though.
  8. Honestly you can get a 200mm fan, but I wouldn't get bigger than that. It's really up to you. The power requirement also grows exponentially. But you are correct, it will push more air at a lower RPM, and (usually) the lower the noise. I understand the feeling of wanting to get as much out of a rig as possible. I have it a lot, and have to resist the urge.

  10. By "Something here isn't quite right" I am referring to the temperature itself, and explained later and how it is likely a reporting error from a temperature IC (chip). I admit, still a bad wording. Nothing strikes me as an issue, or an issue caused by the PSU. Well, not necessarily "Max load", but based on that card, 76C is up there in terms of temps and the amount of fans you have in that case. It was also higher than the max you had in the first photo. FPS drops happen. If it is an issue that makes it unplayable, I can try to help resolve that if need be. Sorry, it's getting late, and I'm an engineer so English isn't my strong suit to begin with.

  12. I feel sorry for those EEs who design motherboards. Unless they lover their jobs, it'd be horrible. Just doing hobby projects with 50-200 components is a royal pain in the arse.
  13. Applying low voltages to fans is perfectly fine. You won't do any damage to them. You're just wasting a couple tenths of a watt, so pretty much no negative effects. LEDs do have a cutoff voltage, so it is likely that you are below that voltage, which I suspect is around 1.5-2.5V based on my experience with LEDs. All temps look fine to me.
  14. Here's the thing, are you willing to spend $350 to get a new router, NIC, and cable? Also, unless you have RAID 0 with 3 SATA 3 SSDs (Accounting for loss) or a M.2/PCI-e SSD, at that point you still don't get any benefit from 10Gb Ethernet as you are then bottlenecked by your storage. So, you're probably looking at $600-700 dollars for a budget upgrade. There's also no reason to really get 10Gb as 1Gb is more than enough. Unless you're running a server farm you don't need 10Gb. Also, your motherboard is either 100Mb/1000Mb, not 100Gb. Most server motherboards still don't have 10Gb on-board Ethernet.
  15. Also, in most cases, a cat5 can do 1Gb, even though it isn't "supported". The only major downfall is that it may not be the max efficiency it could possibly be running at, or it may slightly suffer from interference with extended length, but at that distance, it's really not a concern. It also isn't "officially supported", if you like that sort of thing, that is.
  16. What is the fastest your network card supports (Is it over 10 Gb?) Do you plan to get a 10Gb card? Is your router support 10Gb? If your answer to any is no, stick with cat5e.
  17. Here's the thing, I don't think that temperature is right. That second HWMonitor screenshot seems to be under max load. Both CPU and GPU are at their maxes. As such, the load on any component should be near its peak. Especially with power management. A delta of 70 degrees of what its throwing max and showing here is something that is throwing a "Something here isn't quite right". @Blazth If you could put the system under an artificial load (Which would offer higher temps than any gaming load), then take a screenshot and show us that DURING LOAD, it would greatly help over the maximums. Electronics can be finnickey. As someone who works with people who make software for avionics, it is well known that sometimes there are bad packets. Basing everything off of something that is way outside standard deviation can lead to as many problems as not paying attention to standard deviation at all. I am suspecting that #1 will be around 78-80C and #2 will be around 48-50C.
  18. Noticeable performance gains? I'll be honest, looking at both results now, I don't think either were overheating. Sure, that one gave you a lower result, but now the second one is throwing 112C, which is a little more disconcerting looking at max temps. I think they're fine, looking at the temps on the far left, as that is likely representative of the actual temps, and I think that it's a glitch in the reporting. Unless you see constant temps in the 100s, I don't think you have much to worry about.
  19. I'd say 1700x/1700 as they can effectively be overclocked to run at the same frequencies for much cheaper.
  20. I think a big thing that needs to be worked out is working with shipping companies to decrease costs, unless you have already done so. Shipping is a scary thing for customers, especially over $30, and can decrease sales by over 20% in some instances, especially when over 10% of the overall costs. I think getting that down would greatly increase sales. Even raising the price to $260/265 with free shipping may help. Have you taken a look at Fulfillment by Amazon? I think getting it up on Amazon would bring it a little further out of the "Niche" category, and take some of the scariness away from working with a seller nobody knows. I'd say that is another 20% sales, with ~70% overlap. Generally speaking, Amazon has a huge amount of leverage over shipping companies to negotiate prices since it is so much volume that is fulfilled through Amazon. Not to mention that this also gives Amazon Prime 2-day shipping in many areas. This would qualify as either Large Standard Size (Any packaged item that is 20 lb. or less with its longest side 18" or less, its shortest side 8" or less, and its median side 14" or less)( $3.96 + $0.39/lb over 2 lb) or Small Over Sized (Any packaged unit that is 70 lb. or less with its longest side 60" or less, its median side 30" or less, and its longest side plus girth 130 inches or less.)($6.69 + $0.35/lb over 2 lb). It's just something to look into if you haven't already. (I'm sure you have, but I'm just double checking) EDIT: Boy it's been a long time since you originally said $50 for it.
  21. I really like my ZTE Axon 7. While the low light photo performance leaves something to be desired, it's still a great camera and performs wonderfully in daylight. I've accidentally saved myself a lot of time and effort as I took a photo of my bike and was able to zoom in on the one arm crank and see how long it was (I needed to buy a replacement). Taking photos of landscapes is fantastic with this phone. It's blown people away with the front facing speakers, and I even managed to convert some people at the local AT&T store. Low volume is a weak point, as it is so much louder on the speakers, so audio compression is quite obvious. That's not the phone's problem, but rather an issue with the compression. It sounds fine with ear buds. The OS is fine. I just run the Evie launcher. It's similar to the CM13 launcher, which is what I was used to.
  22. In all honesty, nothing seems too out of whack for that generation of hardware. I am assuming that the 91C load are VRMs, which is not out of the ordinary. Most are rated to 140C. The r9 290x is fine, mine runs at about the same temps. I run Xeons, and the motherboard defaults to all max fan speeds, so it gets decently loud (even with silent fans), although I fall outside standard deviation in terms of PC builds. Everything is a balance of temps and noise. The cooler you want it, either you get a better cooler (A 240mm AIO will still do fine. Don't need to spend $400 on a water loop.), or you sacrifice noise. Want it quieter, better cooler or higher temps. It's all a trade off. What you need to do is find out what are your loudest fans. From there I can help with things.   23. Did a little research. Turns out that this is one of the cards that does not support JBOD out of the box. Unless you want to go flashing custom firmware, you can get around this by assigning each disk to its own RAID 0 array. In the end you should have 6 raid 0 arrays with 1 disk each. EDIT: Glad you got it working.
