Just ordered a new NAS.

Upgrading from a NetGear ReadyNAS Ultra 4 (4 bays, 2TB drives).

to a Synology DS1817+ with 8GBs of RAM (8 bays, and will be using two 2TB, one 3TB and four 4TB).

So higher performance (From 1.66GHz single core Atom to 2.4GHz quad core Atom).

Far more functionality (the Netgear one can't even use a proper SSL cert).

From single drive failure tolerance to two drive tolerance.

Usable storage space will go from 6TB to 15TB.

I will also have 1 slot left for a future drive.

I am not entirely happy with the processor used in the 1817+, but with Synology having a 2-3 year update cycle, and the 1817+ being released less than a year ago I'd have to wait another 1-2 years before upgrading. I really don't have time for that.
