  1. I am considering upgrading my monitor at home to a 144hz since I am long overdue for an upgrade. At work however I use two monitors that are 60hz. Does anyone have a similar situation? My fear is that if I get the 144hz at home; when I'm at work the 60hz ones there will start to bother my eyes.
  2. I have been planning on building a new PC for almost a year now. I rarely use my home PC now as I am either at school or work the majority of the time. This May however, I will be graduating college and have a good amount of free time outside of work. I plan on doing an X99 build once broadwell-e launches this year (June from the rumors I've seen). I also am trying to hold out for the next line-up of GPUs to come out. I use my home PC mostly for gaming so I know an X99 system is going to be overkill, but I haven't done a PC build in almost 6 years now and am hoping doing this one will last roughly as long when it is complete. In addition to games though I do use Autocad, and Adobe Creative Suite programs from time to time. My plan is to run two (2) monitors, 144hz and IPS with the completed build. Even though it is not out yet I want to start picking up some components now rather than buying everything all at once and making my bank account super sad. I will be reusing my current case so no expense there. Currently have a new EVAG 750W G2 PSU that I got on sale about 2 months ago that I plan on using. Wondering if it is worth it to purchase CPU cooler, RAM, M.2 SSD and monitors in the next two months before broadwell-e launches so that then I only need to pick up the Mobo and CPU. Also for a CPU cooler is a closed liquid cooling loop really worth it? I've been looking at EKWB Kits, but have seen mixed reviews on whether it is worth the upkeep. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  3. Hey everyone, I finally decided to do a new build as I am currently running with an AMD Phenom II x4 955. It is really showing it's age. I don't game hardcore anymore as I don't have the time and generally play games like Starcraft, heroes of the storm and LoL. (Nothing too demanding). I also use my PC though for work and on a given day typically have the following up and running at the same time :MS Word, Excel, Project, Autocad and a few web pages. I was back and forth between getting a 6700k or 5820k, but ultimately I think the 5820k is a much better value. (Especially since I live by a microcenter which is selling them for $320). I wanted to go with an Asus X99 board because I have never had problems with the brand and I do appreciate the white and black look of their boards. My question though is what's the real difference between the X99-Pro and X99-A? Is there any real benefit to getting the more expensive option in this case? I will only be running one (1) GPU and plan on getting an M.2 SSD if that factors in at all. Thanks for any help/input you all have!
  4. Anyone have any idea when that 40" tv is supposed to go up?
  5. I don't do any kind of rendering anymore. My biggest issue is a tend to get caught up wanting the highest end parts when searching for new components rather than what is the best performance for what I will be using it for. Do you think it is worth it to wait for skylake or just go with a new i5 now?
  6. Hi all, Below are my current PC specs. I wanted to upgrade to a 980 ti but after posting in the graphics card forum found out that my CPU will bottleneck my system. I plan on getting a 1440p monitor soon even though I don't run very demanding games. My original plan was to upgrade my GPU now and hold out for skylake later this year. I am pretty torn though between which to upgrade first as from what I've read ddr4 makes a negligible difference when gaming and that seems to be one of the biggest *new* features coming with skylake. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. CPU -Amd Phenon II x4 955 (No OC) MoBo -Asus m4A89GTD-Pro/USB3 RAM - 16GB corsair ram (not sure on speed) GPU - MSI Radeon 5830 Twin Frozr As a note lately I have been playing a lot of Heroes of the Storm. Not a graphics intensive game I know but I want to get into more current games like The Witcher 3 and be able to play it at very high settings and still get decent fps. Thanks!
  7. I currently have a cooler master 600w psu. Was considering a upgrading that to an 850w EVGA one just to ensure I have enough going forward. Would you all think I would see a greater performance increase upgrading my cpu? (Obviously mobo as well). I had wanted to get a i7-4790k even though it would overkill to try and ensure it lasted a good while. The only reason I didn't pull the trigger is because skylake seems close from rumors and I had assumed a newer GPU would offer bigger performance gains in games. I don't play graphic intense games currently (things like heroes of the storm) however I want to start playing games like the witcher 3 and first person shooters and be able to get playable frames with good graphics as well. Thanks again for everyone's input so far.
  8. Hi All, I am looking for some advice on whether my PC will be able to take full advantage of a Gtx 980 ti. My current specs are as follows: CPU -Amd Phenon II x4 955 (No OC) MoBo -Asus m4A89GTD-Pro/USB3 RAM - 16GB corsair ram (not sure on speed) GPU - MSI Radeon 5830 Twin Frozr The gpu I obviously want to replace since I think it is pretty dated. I am looking to upgrade to a 1440p monitor soon which is why I wanted to get a 980 ti. Will my CPU prevent me fropm getting the full performance out of it though? I am planning on upgrading the rest of my system in the winter this year once skylake comes around but don't want to waste money on a high end GPU if the rest of my PC will hold it back. Thanks and I appreciate any advice you all might have about this.
