I work in an electronics store, and every time I sell a TV I ask if they want us to calibrate it for them (great way to bring up the margin). They're often unsure at first, but after I show them the difference, most people end up paying for it. However, one question that often pops up that I struggle to answer is why it's necessary. Why isn't this done by the manufacturer? If we actually went home to the customer and calibrated it according to the lighting of the room etc, it would be more reasonable, but all we do is go to the storage, open the TV package, attach a calibration thingy and let it run for a while and charge $150 for it. Why can't the manufacturer do this simple job?
