Which SSD’s would you chose with my system and usage:
Maldorhan replied to Maldorhan's topic in New Builds and Planning
That is exactly what i'm gonna do I guess, minus the HDD because I have a NAS for storage, people really reassured me about the heating question, you included since you seem to have the same setup except for the GPU, and also about the bandwith non-issue. Thank you! -
Budget (including currency): No budget (€). Country: France Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: My usage is long loading times games like Flight Simulator, other than that, DCS, and a few other “standard” games, and a bit of video editing. Other details: Hi, My motherboard is a Gigabyte Aorus PRO v2 B-550 that comes with 2 SSD heatsinks and my GPU is a 3080FE. As I said my usage is long loading times games like Flight Simulator, other than that, DCS, and a few other “standard” games, and a bit of video editing. 2 things I noticed/read: - Heat : The M.2 PCI-E 4.0 is located right over the GPU on my motherboard, like many others, which is normal for the “direct CPU access” BUT they put the M.2 PCI-E 3.0 BEHIND the GPU, the 3080 FE would cover it completely. So as people told me it shouldn’t heat the GPU, but it certainly wouldn’t help it cool down neither… - Bandwith: On the B-550, some people say that adding 2 very fast SSD (PCI-E 4.0 + PCI-E 3.0) + a demanding GPU like the 3080, could, in some cases, prevent the GPU to get all the bandwith it needs… So now here’s the options I have : A) - Slot PCI-E 4 : 1Tb SSD 980 PRO 6gbps (System + apps + 1 or 2 demanding games) - Slot PCI-E 3 : 1Tb SSD 980 3Gbps (Other games) - Slot SATA : nothing Or B) - Slot PCI-E 4 : 1Tb SSD 980 PRO 6gbps (System + apps + 1 or 2 demanding games) - Slot PCI-E 3 : nothing - Slot SATA : 1Tb SSD SATA 850 PRO 550Mbps (Other games) For this question, forget about the pricing, just tell me what would you pick if you were in my position On my side: I’m on the B) team for now, simply because I think that picking the SATA as the second SSD would make the Heat and Bandwith questions disappear instantly, with not much difference for normal games… and even if it’s just bit less heat near the GPU, it’s still a good thing I guess.. Now I’m curious about what would YOU do! Thanks a lot!

Not here to start a flamewar but who else feels the same way?
Maldorhan replied to getrekt's topic in General Discussion
I really like these kind of videos, I mean it let you kind of dream right ? Its like if, let's say, a TV show about cars only showed average car that people drive everyday, instead of dream cars like Lambo and all, it makes no sense. (I don't like cars but that's the best exemple I coudl find ) -
Will windows 10 have a clean install?
Maldorhan replied to Amit Moryossef's topic in Operating Systems
To get the FREE W10 from your W8.1 install, apparently you have to do it through windows update (or using W10 media creation tool) selecting "Upgrade this machine", to let it validate your key and bind your machine ID to the new W10 upgraders generic key. As soon as you did that, I guess you can reinstall from scratch using an ISO our USB boot using the generic key. -
I understand better how it works now, the first time you have to do it on your existing activated W7 or W8 to let it bind your machine ID with the new W10 generic key for upgraders because it has to check if your W7/8 key is valid. As soon as your ID is flagged as OK, you can install from scratch with the generic key as long as you dont change your main computer parts (mobo or cpu). On a side note, W7 loaders, (loaders are bad, you have to buy an official licence), seems to activate perfectly well on 10, and they dont need loaders anymore since they bind your machine ID with the generic key, seeing W7 is activated with a apparently OK key (the old W7 manufacturers key trick). Just works on W7, not 8. I have, and same at my work place, (IT department), all original keys obviously. And yesterday we couldnt activate it as said before, smashing the activate helped yesterday, today when I arrived at work, everything was already activated by itself. So it was just the MS activation servers fault yesterday.

Actually to make it short, I wonder how they know now which CD key we have, if we have all the same then it would be just common to all of the upgraders, and the standalone keys you buy 100-300 bucks will keep being unique as before, but then they have to identify us in a way or another, else everybody could use this generic key, except if, with the upgrade, they bind our machine ID with the generic key, to flag it as legit, but then again, if we change let's say a CPU, the machine ID change, so how do they identify us when calling the support center, maybe the long number we gave before and still do (displayed by the command slic 4 I think) will become the new key. But the stored key in the modern BIOS is still the CD key... Maybe it's time for me to get some sleep I'm totally lost with all this mess
-
Oh ok. Simple as that. Until now, when your hardware changed, you had to call the bot support and give your identification key (very long list of numbers), I imagine that now, it wont be linked to a visible key... That's still very blurry... this new generic key, to me at least
-
I know mate, that is not what I meant. I was talking about, lets say, your SSD or HDD whatever, crash in a few months, for exemple, and you have to reinstall W10 from scratch. (MS said it was doable from scratch after the first mandatory upgrade). The USB / DVD install will prompt you asking for a key, as before, but this time, which one do you use ? Since the W7 / W8 keys arent valid (I've tried), and the update process turns your W7 / W8 key into a new generic one (identical for everyone). So how will it work ? What key do you use when you reinstall from scratch ?
-
I dont get it thinking about a clean reinstall later, if everybody has the same key to enter... I missed something I guess
-
EDITED : I was wrong, same key That would be weird to all have the same key right ? Imagine for a further clean reinstall ? I dont get it, but i'm gonna try to keep smashing it for sure
-
Problem is, I think that the media creator one somehow failed to transform my W8.1 original key to a W10 key, cause as you've probable seen, on the activation window, it indicates the last numbers of your actual product key, and mine finish exactly as a generic W10 preview key I saw on other forums that some people got this generic key without ever enter it, updating from an original, care to tell me just the 5 last numbers you see ? (the rest is hidden anyway to avoid easy stealing)
-
Wow nice ! Really ? Just an important thing though, is your present W10 installation from Windows 10 media creator, or from W8.1 Windows Update ?
-
Is your other licence W7 or W8 ? Cause this DISGUSTING trick works only with W7 loaders, (cause of the SLIC breach)
-
Another update, very disgusting one... A friend was running a windows 7 unnofficial with a stupid loader... (when WE have original keys), I updated her computer with windows 10, as we did, it worked like a charm, and guess what, her pirated windows 7 gave her an ACTIVATED Windows 10. How fair is that for us ? Fu** this Seriously should we all do the same... EDIT : to be more specific, I noted hey pirated key with the loader, BEFORE the install, who worked SO well, and after the install, the key changed and is activated, FOR FREE she got a 270$ Windows 10 Pro key, that doesnt need a loader anymore since its changed in her own.

Little update after 1h30 on the phone and 2 different persons, they asked me to remote control with them, then after a few useless things, asked me for my 8.1 key, and they're giving me a new windows 10 key I guess, but since the activation service is down, they'll call me back tomorrow like you... Let's wait and see
