  1. Okay, background information first, here are the relevant specs: i7 5930k (stock) 16gb Corsair Dom Plat 2666MHz Asus X99 Sabertooth Zotac GTX 980 Ti AMP! Extreme edition Boot drive: 512GB Samsung SM951 After running Windows 8.1 pro for around 4 days flawlessly - playing games, etc. I decided to make the jump to Windows 10. Because of the legitimacy of my OS I decided to buy windows 10 and do a fresh installation. I created a bootable usb drive with the windows 10 ISO, installed it with no issues, then downloaded the drivers for my motherboard, which were the same as the ones I'd had to use for Windows 8.1. I started with the chipset driver, followed by both LAN drivers and then the Asmedia usb 3.1 driver without restarting - so far so good. shortly after, my screen resolution hopped up to its native 1440p resolution without me installing any nvidia drivers. I check my programs to find them already installed. Thinking it was odd but not investigating further, I downloaded and installed Ai suite 3, at which point I rebooted. Got as far as the sign in menu, typed my pin in and it came up with DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_OR_LESS_EQUAL(storahci.sys) and restarted. Upon restart another blue screen error saying windows failed to load correctly appeared and prompted trouble shooting options. After trying to reset the PC, checking bios settings etc. I went for a full re-installation of Windows. After trying the process normally again with the same result, I researched some options I could try. Seeing as Storahci.sys can be caused by key component driver failures or corruptions, I thought back to the nvidia drivers being installed when I'd tried the first time. I go through the same process again, find the nvidia drivers there without me installing them again. I downloaded install display driver, rebooted into save mode and cleaned the drive of the nvidia drivers (this was 353.54 driver) and any associated files, also turning off windows automatic driver installation for new hardware just to be sure. Now I had a fresh OS with no motherboard drivers and no GPU drivers. I then went about installing the drivers from the asus website using a newer chipset driver, then restarted after each driver was installed to make sure none of them were the problem, the chipset and both LAN drivers installed just fine along with the audio driver. I moved on to the geforce drivers, and downloaded the newest 355.60 windows 10 driver and loaded it fine. Finally I installed the Asmedia usb 3.1 driver, Ai suite, cpu and gpuz, a Nintendo installer for steam, chrome, vlc and a couple of other programmes, aida64, and unigine. This all worked fine, I only rebooted once through these installations when prompted by Ai suite. I'd just decided what game I wanted to download and play first on steam and thought I'd download and run crystal disk mark. It installed just fine. I select the 1gb run and close any other programs down. Started the run and the blue screen 'Windows needs to shut down /restart error' appeared. Windows reboots, scans the disk to try and repair it, finishes and boots into the boot options menu, I selected continue to Windows 10.i got the the start menu, typed my pin in and the DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_OR_LESS_EQUAL(storahci.sys) appears again. After restarting, booting into the sign in menu, the same error appears when trying to sign in. I'm now in the bios trying to figure out if any settings need changing but can't see what else it could be now. It doesn't seem to be the GPU, The bios is set up to run from the sm951 drive just fine, as it did so with Windows 8.1 pro. The drive itself isn't overheating. Sorry about the long post, but it'd be great if I could have some help sorting this out. It's a workstation PC for a graphic design and Adobe CC course so is needed ASAP.
  2. I had the same problem with the original sennheiser cables, they just aren't very durable.
  3. I'd definitely recommend the note 3. In terms of hardware specs it's really only marginally worse than the note 4 that I'm currently using. As much as Sense is my overall favorite 3rd party android skin, being one of the lightest, for productivity and multitasking TouchWiz is pretty darn amazing. I'm also hearing that it's been slimmed down significantly for 5.0 and that's looking to be the case based on what we're seeing in the S6 and S6 edge. I've only ever used the One M7 which I did think was an amazing phone, but being a power user and a big phone lover, the note is the best option for getting through the day.
  4. Yes, as can most people as it's an effective doubling in refresh rate. The difference between 120Hz and 144Hz is much smaller, however, and so most people can't tell. Asking to have a constant 144fps AND have a smooth experience is asking for the impossible. G-Sync won't help you with what you're asking for, as it's only going to smooth out gameplay between 30Hz and 144Hz. When any monitor hits a refresh rate cap with G-Sync, V-Sync automatically kicks in anyway, so it's the same experience with or without G-Sync. G-Sync isn't going to help you with your situation unfortunately. In your situation, I would agree with you and recommend playing without G-Sync or V-Sync if you want to maintain a 144Hz refresh rate, and just live with the tearing. You won't be getting any input latency that way either. I think that would be the best compromise
  5. Thanks Durability is great with Plasti-Dip. It wont ever degrade sitting inside a PC. See, that's where I'm thinking you may be better off with regular spray paint. Plasti-Dip peels and stretches when you take it off, so using a stencil will probably give you a lot of torn edges where the Plasti-Dip was attached to the stencil. It could work if you did the whole backplate, then laid the stencil on top and cut out sections of the plastidip. If I were you though, I'd look at using regular spray paint to avoid the hassle.
  6. 1. It definitely won't feel that responsive running above your monitors refresh rate. 2. Okay, but aiming for 200 is going to mean V-Sync and its issues, which is going to be detrimental to gameplay, especially on CS:GO. It sounds like you need to decide what's more important to you, CS:GO or the rest of your games library, and also decide if you play CS:GO seriously or not. Either way, aiming for 200fps isn't going to do you any favors. I promise you that you won't see the difference between 120 and 144Hz, very few people are able to when the framerates get that high.
  7. Thanks man, it was tough selling it, it was my first custom loop and the first build I'd ever done any modding on so it has a lot of siginificance to me. Yeah, that one is really nice too. At the end of the day, you'll be able to build a clean, beautiful machine in either of these cases, it's whether you need the space of the Enthoo Primo more than you want the silence of the H440. One thing to be careful with is that with the Enthoo Primo, unless you're putting the right hardware in it, it will look empty, and I don't like that look. If you aren't putting a Custom Loop in the Primo, it will look that way. I had two 480mm radiators in mine and a 250ml tube reservoir to fill it completely. You could get away with a 480mm in the top and a 240mm in the bottom though. Also if you're only using an AIO and air for the GPU's, go for the H440. I would only use the Enthoo Primo for a water cooled build really, but it's up to you.
  8. Just to mention, this is in the wrong section. This needs to be in the new builds and planning section, just a reminder for the future. Also asking for money is against the forum CoC, just as advertising is. Sorry to be a bitch but it's better to get these things out of the way from the get go.
  9. Why? That won't be a pleasant experience at all. At an Average of 200fps you'll either get major latency issues from V-Sync or horrible tearing. Higher frame rates don't make you a better player you know, running at a 120-130fps average would result in a much smoother experience.
  10. I used Plasti-Dip on my 290X Lightning backplates and they came out pretty nicely. The only thing I'd recommend is adding some fine grit after spraying the first coat or two to help the next few coats stick properly as those backplates are very smooth. Here's my old build with the 290X Lightnings: http://imgur.com/a/5Gl7l#pfW1W5N
  11. They're both very different cases. The former is optimised for near-silent operation and aesthetics, while the other is designed to hold as much hardware as one would ever need. Personally I'm a fan of full-tower systems, and have used the Enthoo Primo White for a build of my own (See my Signature). The Enthoo Primo is a great case to build in and awesome for water-cooled set ups with two or more GPU's. The H440 is among the most highly rated cases in it's category and will not disappoint you either. Personally I prefer the Enthoo Primo. Here's my build in the Primo: http://imgur.com/a/5Gl7l#pfW1W5N
  12. Hitting the maximum refresh rate with or without G-Sync enabled still causes one of two problems, latency from V-Sync or tearing from having it turned off. If you're going to be running games at over 144fps @ 1440p your machine is most likely overkill.
  13. No, you're not weird. I switch between the two depending on the game I'm playing, it's all down to personal preference really
  14. So, to be clear, this is including all peripherals? (Mouse, keyboard, Monitor) and OS?

Ah, my bad. I just judged based on my initial impressions.
  16. I don't think it's quite where it needs to be yet, but its a platform in its infancy, and taking that into account, it's doing very well. I'm happy with my experience so far, so long as it continues to improve

Somewhat intelligent conversation, about games, tech, etc...or just being generally nice, friendly people.

The maturity level in that chat is ridiculous. Apparently the LTT audience isn't any better than the rest of the internet.
  19. Yes, two TITAN X's run 4K too well. I ran a 1080p monitor with two R9 290X's for a few months (don't ask why) and running games constantly at a higher frame rate than the monitor will allow makes for a pretty poor gaming experience. The 280X was for 1080p what the 390X/TITAN X needed to be for 4K. Affordable since the 970? I'd never recommend a 970 for gaming at 4K.
  20. So the first reply addressed the hardware side, but what are you planning to do with these three monitors? Run three separate instances of the game on a single machine? I can't say for sure but I'm fairly certain that's not possible, even with Virtual machines.
  21. You'll have more scaling problems with a 3 way SLI configuration. 2 way SLI configurations have wider support in games and you'll be getting the 12GB of VRAM for better support for triple A titles down the road.
  22. Okay so this is what I put together for around $1000. I added the GTX 960 for Cuda acceleration. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/PsCvcf
  23. You can get a powerful system for $1000. If you're not interested in too much gaming?
  24. Slightly slower than a GTX 970, and slightly faster than a GTX 770. Some have been clocked to roughly GTX 780 speeds.
  25. There isn't any evidence to the contrary? There are still a lot of issues with gaming at 4K. There still isn't a single GPU that can handle 4K (TITAN X is close but in some games you're still going to have to turn settings down) and with two you're adding in scaling issues in a lot of games. With two TITAN X's you'll be going over 60fps meaning you'll get tearing and need to turn V-sync on. Turning V-Sync on means you'll get added latency. Scaling issues are still a problem until Windows 10 attempts to deal with them. 4K isn't there yet.
