I can understand Linus' reaction to a point. He still sees LMG as a scrappy startup he's poured his blood into to make something of it, and feels an attack on the company is an attack on him personally; something that isn't helped by how much he's very much the face of the company still.

With that said, LMG is now valued at $100m and is not a scrappy startup anymore. Their opinions pull real weight with people, and they are looking to get into serious testing. You CANNOT become a serious testing house with the kind of mistakes being made, and changing company focus towards that at this point could be a disastrous move.

GN's main criticism in the original video is not enough time is being spent; neither in the quality of review testing, nor in overall process management within the company to ensure a debacle like Billet Labs never happens. These are very fair criticisms.

If, as Linus claims, LTT is all about the consumer, then be about us. Slow down, take your time and yeah, spend the extra $500 to do it right. If what LTT is actually about is its bottom line, that's a different direction; stay doing entertainment, which you guys are great at.

I find all of this extremely disappointing. I really hope the organisation grows in the end and faces up to its failures, and Linus with it. That response to valid concerns was not good...

    Prema Bios
    http://premamod.com/

    Benefits of Prema BIOS :

    • Restores user ability to overclock or underclock the CPU
    • Restores user control over CPU power settings (voltage, watts, amps) for optimal performance and/or thermal efficiency
    • Restores ability to control non-turbo CPU core ratio
    • Restores ability to control CPU c-states and p-states
    • Restores ability to control BCLK (northbridge) and FCLK (System Agent) frequency
    • Restores ability to enable Intel Speed Shift Technology functionality
    • Restores ability to disable Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX) functionality which is intended for software developers who want to use that feature and causes erratic system behavior
    • Restores ability to control RSR, Watchdog Timer, ASPM, ACPI sleep and hibernation functionality
    • Restores ability to control RAM timings, clock speeds and enables the utilization of XMP profiles
    • Restores ability to control selection of Legacy, UEFI and CSM to install whatever operating system is desired
    • Restores ability to control CPU-based DEP, AES (encryption) and Virtualization
    • Restores ability to control GPU scaling, PCIe speed and power management features
    • Restores control over Thunderbolt and USB 3.1 configuration
    • Restores control over SATA port configuration and Intel LPM. Having the ability to disable drive ports allows exclusive control over what drive receives the BCD/boot sector, system and recovery partitions during Windows Setup and eliminates the need to physically remove non-OS drives when installing a new OS.

    Cpu 2-core
Ultrabooks o many multimedia laptops use 2-cores cpus (intel U series).
These are cpus of this type:

They have a TDP of 15W

P65xSx throttled because Haswell throttled. Because it was the HQ chips. They ALL throttle under heavy load because they can't pull more than 47W over 2.5 minutes of usage. It would happen in any laptop you ever found, ever. Skylake has no such power issue. Read my mobile CPU guide.

The cooling on them is fine for the CPU and some OCing, but it isn't exactly designed for 4.2GHz or anything. In that respect you want something like a GT72 or P7xxDM size, but that's what it's always been like.

No reason not to overclock a decent laptop for benching... been doing it for years now without consequence. No need to overclock for simple gameplay under most circumstances, but life would be far too boring if all there was to do was play games. If you cut corners and buy a junky laptop to save a few bucks, it might get too hot, but thermals are never an issue with a good machine.   It sure did take them a LONG time to discover and fix that "bug" LOL. If they are going to be liars, they should at least try harder. They're not very good at it.   News flash! None of these machine have exhibited any evidence of damage or malfunction from having the guts overclocked out of the CPU and GPUs.   980M SLI - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4930K,Clevo P570WM powered by PremaMod.com   780M SLI - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3920XM Processor Extreme Edition,Alienware M18xR2   680M SLI - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3920XM Processor Extreme Edition,Alienware M18xR2   580M SLI - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2920XM Processor,Alienware M18xR1   People that know nothing about high performance laptops should remain silent, or at least be more careful about exposing their ignorance in public. It's very unflattering and it causes people that know better to lose respect for them. The fact of the matter is, many of the high end laptops with unlocked mobile Extreme CPUs and desktop K and X series CPUs are engineered to overclock, advertised as overclockable, and some come from the factory with the CPU and GPU already overclocked.   Bottom line here is NVIDIA is full of crap, have overstepped their boundaries and need to back off and stop interfering with the exercise of property ownership rights. These are MY MACHINES, and NVIDIA WILL NOT dictate what I can or cannot do with them.

This forum... and most of the net... is under the EXTREMELY INCORRECT impression that every laptop is like a $600 HP that can't do a single thing and sits at 80 degrees watching youtube. Intel's new HQ garbage trend might be all well and good for people buying HP laptops and Acer laptops where their power limiting "feature" is there to help the woefully incompetent cooling systems that are used to achieve low price, low operating volume (fans) and the thinness they have.
I say to anyone. ANYONE. You try a REAL top of the line notebook; even if it is a thinner variant like the P6xxSx Clevo models or those new Alienwares, and you'll never, under any circumstances, want to see another low-end machine in your life. Hell there's people who run 24/7 4.3GHz CPUs and 24/7 OC'd GPUs in Clevos and Alienwares and even some older ASUS notebooks all the time, and get a lot more for their dollar out of it.

Man, some of the ignorant comments by people that know absolutely nothing about how outstanding the right kind of laptop overclocks the CPU and GPU is amazing to me. I had no idea there were this many uninformed morons out there. Pay attention... visit HWBOT.org a little more often. Comments to the effect that there are no laptops capable of handling overclocking is reflection of pure ignorance.

That NVIDIA employees would message this when we see examples of those same employees overclocking their own laptops and posting benchmark scores with them is outright hypocrisy.

There are more extreme laptop overclockers out there than one might realize, and TONS of casual laptop overclockers. Some of these machines are engineered and advertised to support it. I love tearing up gamer-boy desktops with my amazing extreme overclocked laptops with fully unlocked Extreme processors and SLI that overclock like a banshee and still run nice and cool.

What NVIDIA did here is unethical and potentially illegal. If they do not reconsider, there will be a reckoning. Remember the "Bumpgate" Class Action? Get ready to rumble.
