  1. I'm looking for information on a couple of hdd enclosures. I'm using a natec docking station on a debian vm right now but I can't find the chipset model. I know only that it is a jmicron chipset as I can see it in the esxi devices but not the model and I want to compare with the chipset of the hdd enclosures below. This chipset seems to support SMART information. I can see all information about the hdd drive.

So, now I'm planning to replace this dock with a hdd enclosure. I'm interested on these two:

The digitus mentions that it has JMS578 chipset model but it doesn't mention if it supports UASP and SMART passthrough like the lc-power.

Has anyone any of this enclosures to ensure that they support the features I'm asking for?

    anyways, on topic..

if you're planning to go with 2 drives, do you have anything against getting 2 enclosures? single drive enclosures are dirt cheap, and the electronics are essentially standardized by this point.

I'm going for a single drive at this point but I also liked the orico 2 bay I mentioned above. I was disappointed when I read comments on amazon, so I'm looking for another one which doesn't have power saving issues and will keep drive as cold as possible and to be able to handle 24/7/365.

    For example:

I rlly wouldn't get a wd red drive, western digital is a crappy company, they have made the wd red hdds display critical warning (not sure how exactly its called), after just 3 years of power on time, which is not nearly the lifespan of it, sure the drive still works, but if actual warning was to occur, you wouldn't know it. It would be better to get lime a seagate ironwolf

I will get a red plus which is cmr type. Thankfully, I have several wd drives for many years and never had any type of issue. Do you recommend any case for my scenario?

  4. I'm looking for a case for wd red drive to plug into a pc(lenovo m700), for seedbox purpose. It will work 24/7/365.

    I have seen https://www.skroutz.gr/s/32131424/Orico-THiki-gia-2-Sklirous-Diskous-3-5-SATA-III-me-syndesi-USB-3-0-DS200U3-EU- BK-BP.html

but the comments are a bit discouraging, since they say that after spin down, to save energy, it either takes 5 minutes to get up again or it needs to be switched off and on(several comments on internet).

Also, I'm interested in keeping the drive as cold as possible.

Does anyone have a similar situation to recommend a case?

Mostly, I search on this local site: https://www.skroutz.gr/c/667/hard-drive-cases/f/597478/3-5.html?lang=en&order_by=popularity&order_dir=desc

Windows to go is very very picky. Could be the usb controller for the front and back isnt the same.

I'm thinking to disable power saving and check. Otherwise I don't see any other options.

Weird thing is that there is not "power management" tab for most usb controllers in dev manager. There is only for "USB Root Hub(USB 3.0).

  6. My mb is b450 tomahawk. I got an orico ssd case with usb 3.1 gen 2. When I boot it from the rear usb-a or usb-c it hangs 9/10 times(usb i/o led keeps flashing) so I hard reboot the pc. When I boot it from the front panel usb 3.0 it works fine. Also those rear usb ports work fine when I don't boot os from them. Any ideas?

Depends on the game really. If you use fullscreen, most will default to the primary monitor. Some will allow you to move them and then fullscreen on whatever monitor the window was on and some will allow you to pick from monitor 1 to 3 or however many you have. If the game doesn't support switching monitors the way you want, you often don't have much of a choice but to live with it, though you could try making a feature suggestion to the developers.

I have some games that will only fullscreen to the primary monitor, so I just quickly switch my primary monitor to the one I want when playing that game, then switch it back when I'm done. Doesn't take very long. I know people have asked before if there's a shortcut or similar to switch primary monitors but there isn't as far as I know. It's almost certainly possible to do it via a powershell script and then bind that to a shortcut, but I've not looked into it enough to know how to do it. Switching main monitors isn't enough hassle for me to go searching for the powershell system functions.

I will go that way too, I guess.

I'm just searching displayfusion options and if I find anything I will post.

    Thank you.

You can't specifify the display (at least, not through native WIndows settings) but you can set it so that buttons are on all task bars.

The system tray and search box are only even on the primary monitor I believe.

You can change the settings by right clicking on the task bar and clicking Taskbar settings.

Is this option available in 3rd party software like displayfusion?

I don't like the main taskbar on all monitors.

  9. I have added a 3rd monitor. I will use it only for gaming so it won't be powered on all the time.

However, I have set it as display number 1 because I have some games that cannot change on which display they will run as there is not such option in the in-game menu.

So, when I power it on, the main taskbar(the one with the buttons) goes to that monitor and I have to drag it on the second monitor.

How can I set it to be on the 2nd monitor by default?

Each end of cable has a Displayport connector, so the cable works the same no matter which way you connected it.

I will go for the cheaper one then. Thanks

That is an adapter cable, most likely for a laptop's smaller mini display port connector. It can only be used one way. If you have 2 devices that need a normal HDMI port, look for a HDMI to HDMI cable, which most of them actually are. The cable you have selected here would be called an adapter because it connects different types of connectors.

Monitor came with the same cable but it's too short. So I searched for the same but longer.

I have tested the short one and it works fine.

I have plugged the normal displayport on gpu and the mini on monitor.
