Not sure im reading this right or missing something, so I'm looking to do a x99 build and im looking at Asus motherboards. I have 3 in mind, x99-delux, x99-e ws, or rampage v extreme. Now they all pretty much will work, but I am going to be doing tri SLI and each mobo seems to support different PCIe configs in SLI. Im trying to get 16x/16x/8x config.
For Instance, x99-e ws says it supports 7 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (single x16 or dual x16/x16 or triple x16/x16/x16 or quad x16/x16/x16/x16 or seven x16/x8/x8/x8/x8/x8/x8), which i cant see how that's possible as the CPU is only 40 lanes.
Then the x99 deluxe supports 5 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16, x16/x16, x16/x16/x8, x8/x8/x16/x8, x8/x8/x8/x8/x8 mode) - 40 lanes
Then the Rampage V has 4 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16, x16/x16, x16/x8/x8 or x16/x8/x8/x8, showing the 3 way sli is only using 32 lanes.
My question is why is How can the X99-e ws have that many lanes, and why wouldnt the extreme support 16x/16/x8 like the deluxe? I may or may not go M.2 sata and if I do I assume I'll need the 4x pcie lanes for it, thus rendering my 16/16/8 config impossible and going with 16/8/8.
