  1. Well I planned on running 8x 3TB drives, but maybe ill just get the dual port LSI card and a 4 drive bad for now, then i can expand if need be. So if i run 4 drives on one port each drive will have a 6g connection?
  2. Wow thanks! yeah looks like the LSI card is about $300 cheaper for the 6G version. I was assuming the 12g and 6g was the bandwidth avilable for the ports. I thought the higher the better lol.
  3. Card is what i'm set on and this is now what I think ill get. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UR4XA88/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=30A7V6YENJCML&coliid=IXIU88OV51UNA sata6 drives for sure.
  4. Yeah its 8644 but thanks. Also i just noticed that enclosure i posted, the specs says 16TB max, but that doesnt sound right, so is the 2TB per slot or 16TB per slot max? Their website is down so i cant check. Was hoping to put 8x 4TB HDD's in there but if I cant I have to go back to the drawing board. Edit: Scratch that, stupid thing is 2.5 drives, not 3.5 :-(
  5. Thanks! looking a bit more at related options i found THIS ONE Im pretty new to NAS/DAS setups but I assume with the card I linked in the first post it uses the 8644 connector and this product comes with 2 8644 cables. So i assume since they match it should be no issue. Then I can just raid from the card and be good to go?
  6. so I have a Dell Optiplex 9020 with a i5-4590 and I want to turn it into my NAS server. I was gonna buy this card with 2 external SAS connectors. Is there some solution for external HDD enclosures for either 8 or 4 HDD's? I would most likely need a powered solution as the power in the Dell is limited.
  7. I have that same mobo and I could have sworn it had options in the bios to set the multipliers for ALL or individual cores. Look in the manual page 3-16
  8. From their site. You must use one of the following methods to update this BIOS. - Use MFlash to update "BIOS + ME" - Use MSI LiveUpdate
  9. Happens to my GF's pc as well, but when she boots it up it says it failed to shutdown correctly. Was going to just reinstall windows :_(
  10. Could be a resource issue maybe. Like once USB3.0 front panel is in use then that PCIe slot turns off. Try plugging in something else to that USB port like a thumb drive or a phone. If you can also swap the PCIe card to a different slot.
  11. Remove 1 stick of memory and try to boot it up on one stick. If it reboots still then turn it off and swap memory and try again.
  12. What model mobo?
  13. Ah thats the one, I almost pulled the trigger on the XP941, so im glad i didnt.
  14. Thanks cause I really like the Rampage board, and would like to do m.2 with samsungs newest m2 ssd with like over 2GBs reads and 1.4GB/s writes,i think that was the specs.
  15. Not sure im reading this right or missing something, so I'm looking to do a x99 build and im looking at Asus motherboards. I have 3 in mind, x99-delux, x99-e ws, or rampage v extreme. Now they all pretty much will work, but I am going to be doing tri SLI and each mobo seems to support different PCIe configs in SLI. Im trying to get 16x/16x/8x config. For Instance, x99-e ws says it supports 7 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (single x16 or dual x16/x16 or triple x16/x16/x16 or quad x16/x16/x16/x16 or seven x16/x8/x8/x8/x8/x8/x8), which i cant see how that's possible as the CPU is only 40 lanes. Then the x99 deluxe supports 5 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16, x16/x16, x16/x16/x8, x8/x8/x16/x8, x8/x8/x8/x8/x8 mode) - 40 lanes Then the Rampage V has 4 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16, x16/x16, x16/x8/x8 or x16/x8/x8/x8, showing the 3 way sli is only using 32 lanes. My question is why is How can the X99-e ws have that many lanes, and why wouldnt the extreme support 16x/16/x8 like the deluxe? I may or may not go M.2 sata and if I do I assume I'll need the 4x pcie lanes for it, thus rendering my 16/16/8 config impossible and going with 16/8/8.
