  1. Am I restricted to only playing games that have the most demanding graphics, just because I can do so? I also play BF1, Mass Effect Andromeda, Ghost Recon Wildlands, and Forza Horizon 3. I play a variety of games and I don't like to be limited by my hardware.
  2. Hello, fellow enthusiasts. I have some concern about the 1080ti. I purchased this card (the Gigabyte Aorus Extreme Edition) about a month ago, and since then I've notice several problems, and before you ask, airflow is plentiful, temps are fine, of course I uninstalled and reinstalled my driver, and no I don't want a cookie.Specs (that may matter) are:4790k @ 4.6 and stableGigabyte Aorus Extreme Edition 1080ti (no OC)16 gigs of ramAsus vii hero850 evo ssd750 watt PSUWindows 10 home creators editionI think that's all that might be relevant (not here for a d*** measuring contest about who has the best fans lol)TLDR (longer explanations at the bottom)1st PUBG has waves of terrible performance.2nd Rocket League seems like frame timings are a bit off and I get almost constant ¼ second hitches and stutters, and gsync seems to not work anymore on Rocket League with XB27OHU Acer monitor (this could be creators update related though).3rd If I leave a game running while afk for a while it will freeze.4th I get random freezes or just straight crashes in all games that use the gpu at full capacity.5th Most games that aren't triple a titles play a bit stuttery, even though the frame count is normal, but triple a titles seem to play flawlessly (until they freeze or crash anyway).6th My 980ti (Gigabyte Extreme Gaming) that I put back in is working fine on all games and with none of the issues of the 1080ti, EXCEPT the sudden non functionality of gsync in Rocket League.I have already rma'd this card back to newegg, due to the crashing with no overclocking (not even running the card in OC mode), and I've seen reports of others having this issue with some of the cards, but my concern is, could all of these random issues be due to getting a “faulty card” it doesn't seem like this all is the fault of the gpu to me. Maybe there are still driver/compatibility issues that need to be ironed out? Maybe there is a flaw with gpu boost on these cards? Maybe Gigabyte flopped with their custom PCB's this go around and its somehow causing these random little issues? Maybe I'm just overthinking a faulty card?1st PUBG is the worst. While playing this game I get really bad waves of performance drop. Its hard to describe, but its like for 20 seconds it will look like 10fps, and my backlight on my monitor will barely noticeably flicker just a bit brighter and just a bit dimmer it time with the fps lag, then for about 5 seconds it will run as expected and smooth as that game can run, then back to 10 fps for 20 more seconds and so on... All the while, my fps counter on MSI afterburner shows a normal frame rate with no record of the dipping.2nd TLDR is sufficient3rd TLDR is sufficient4th These crashes are the kind that won't let me close the program and I have to hard reset my pc.5th It seems like its either dropping frames, duplicating frames, or the timing of the frames is off. I don't get the usual input lag feeling that comes with low fps, I just miss information. I understand that most non triple a titles aren't usually very optimized but its not doing this on my 980ti.6th TLDR is sufficientIf anyone else is having any issues similar to these with this card, (or even better with another brand of 1080ti) please explainAny help/theories will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  3. Title says it all. I'm selling a cpu and had a good oc on it at a good voltage for that cpu (fx8350), I don't remember the exact numbers but I do know that it was pretty good. My question is would you buy a cpu if the previous owner had oc'd it? Would you be more likely to?
  4. Hello everyone, I have an issue with an insperon N4030. The symptom was instant shutdown, even before the screen gets a chance to power on and the leds only flash once. So I decided to try and disconnect stuff until I saw a change, and when I got to the ram I found the issue. The laptop has two ram slot and two ram sticks, The bottom ram slot can run the pc just fine, but when I put the stick in the top slot it will instantly shutdown again. I mixed the sticks up (put top stick in bottom slot and vise versa) and still the same issue persisted which is how I know it is the slot and not the sticks. I know the obvious choice is to replace the motherboard, but I'm sure there are other issues that could cause this as well like the cpu or power supply? I'm just not comfortable buying a $40 dollar motherboard until I get some consistent opinions.
  5. Well I already have a substantial set of pics i just need to know how to lock his wallpaper where he cant change it as stated in op
  6. Well i wanted to stay away from morbid stuff like brain scattering car accidents because both his parents are dead, his 13 year old cat died two months ago and his 11 year old dog died this morning so... but anything that is just freaking gross or some extreme sexual act is cool
  7. Ok guys, I just finished building my friends new gaming rig. I installed windows 8.1 and want to set a wallpaper slideshow theme with some REALLY bad stuff like from the dark corners of reddit. Now I know how to SET a theme but I want to LOCK it where he cant change it unless I give him a password or something like that. Surely this ability has to exist! Thanks for any help!
  8. I upgraded to window 8.1 and the only bad thing I can say about it is that the wallpaper compression is very noticeable and their is no fix that I can find, other than that I think 8.1 is better in every way than 7. Boot time is 10 seconds (with ssd) while my windows 7 boot time was 50ish seconds it looks more modern, runs lighter, make some older games (far cry1 for example) that I couldn't get to work in 7 run just fine with no configuration needed, and gives you a "new car" feel that is very satisfying. I highly recommend the upgrade.
  9. Hello fellow techies, I recently put my two 850 evo's in raid0 as a boot drive for windows. My question is, how do I properly configure windows for best performance, (not worried about power saving) and reliability. I know that with no raid, Windows will automatically set up trim and other things and samsung magician has a "configure OS for best perfomance" button, but I'm not sure if windows knows how to detect raid0 ssd's (samsung magician says there are no samsung ssd'd connected and will not allow me to use it's "configure os" button). I did a Google search on this, but what few answers I found were very conflicting. I would appreciate some input on how to do this or just point me to a good tutorial. THANKS!
  10. The problem was not the need of a fresh install of windows. I had just finished my windows updates and installing all my programs when i was told to restart, and then it was the same minute wait as before (my newly created raid0 boot drive with 2 850 evo's made no difference in the time). So barely able to keep from throwing a car at the nearest child, I started uninstalling crap. My first pick was avira antivirus, after the uninstall was complete it told me to restart, so I did and low and behold there was no delay... so thats cool
