  1. Do you happen to have the Pathing? I could google it as well, just didn't know if you knew it off hand
  2. So i'm a beginning Repair Tech and i have an old computer with windows 7. I enabled Syskey on the device in an attempt to learn how to remove it (learn to fix ransomware). I used Hiren's BootCD and used Offline NT Password & registry editor more specifically. I went through the normal process but when i got to selecting what i wanted to do (1- Edit user data and passwords, 9- Registry...) there was no "2- Syskey status & change" like there is in almost all the example i come across in my searches. (reference attached image) so i clicked [2] even with my scenario and it still processes as if there was an option there anyway (almost like a hidden option) after reboot i get my OEM splash screen, the windows 7 splash, and right as its about to go to the users screen it seems to just cut off and restart. Anyone have ideas?? Thanks in advance!! =D
  3. NOOO!! lol i wanted to see if my solution would have worked like how it did for me. but oh well. May your repair be swift and your bill be small
  4. So i had a very similar problem with a All-in-one: It would power on (you hear the fans and Hard drive spin up) but absolutly no display, no HP splash screen or anything (not even backlighting from what i could tell) The Fix: 1) power off + un-plug machine 2) unplug unnecessary peripherals 3) remove 1 stick of RAM 4) hold power button for 10 seconds (while still being powered off and un-plugged) 5) power on machine (still with only 1 stick of RAM) 6) if screen turns on normally > finish boot > shutdown properly 7) re-install stick of RAM
  5. Thanks!! thats a new one i'll have to do some research on!
  6. Yea, thats a big reason i havent bought it... i love the OS but the hardware is disappointing me this time around
  7. @KeFy @Sierra Fox Thanks guys. i wasnt sure if there was really anything else that i was completely missing that i should be looking at.. back to the price and compare between those lol
  8. So I've been looking at getting a laptop for School primarily, but am extremely interested in Linux / pentesting and looking at getting into coding. What i'm looking for: - ~9 hour battery life web browsing / General - i7 Dual-Core / Quad-Core (preff) - 16GB RAM - 512Gb M.2 / Nvme SSD (could get away with 128GB or 256GB as long as it is up-gradable) - Graphics card is not important to me - 13.3" - 15.6" Screen - 1440p would be PERFECT!! 1080 would be ok, no 4k screen.... What i've looked at so far: - Dell XPS 13 and 15 - Macbook Pro 2015 and 2016 - Asus Zenbooks (slightly researched) I know that these specs are way overkill for what i'm looking to be doing but i like having it and not needing it vs. needing it and not having it. I'm looking for laptops around the $1600 mark (expecting $1800 after tax and such) (absolute max would be $2000 after tax) I'd love to see y'alls recommendations (and if this exact topic has been answered please link and i will take this one down)
  9. i'm open to other free solutions. i've gone through too many USB's for me to be comfortable paying ~$20
  10. So that is basically what i'm doing but i like the way i have because if the USB ever gets damaged / corrupt / stops working i have a way of creating a new one because i have the files... i would prefer to not pay for this method because i know free ways out there... i was just looking to see if anyone has a fix for the OPHcrack and windows 10 situation
  11. @Alaa do you have a link to the video? or at least the title so i can search it?
  12. So I am the neighborhood IT guy to quite a few elderly people that forget their password to their computers and such.... I use OPHcrack to automate the process but recently on Windows 10 machines OPHcrack has not been able to identify the NT Hashes. Was just curious if anyone had experience with this and a workaround this. p.s. not 100% sure this falls within the guidelines due to the general nature of this software.
  13. @TheKDub i've checked the actual full website, they dont offer the configuration i'm looking for
  14. @Electronics Wizardy i was kind of trying to get it from bestbuy .... i have a way of getting things half price from there (legally) and they dont carry the non 4k version..... but yes i'm very tempted to buy it outright directly from dell @TheKDub the difference of battery life would be minimal? or the screen clarity?
  15. So one of my main hesitations in buying the Dell xps 15' (quad core i7, 16GB RAM, 512 SSD) is the frikin 4k screen... in my mind it is useless to have that high of resolution (for my personal needs anyway) on a 15.6" screen (needless battery drain).... perfect in my mind is a 1440p screen because it is the perfect in-between spot for clarity and battery life. My question is if i was to lower the resolution of the native 4k screen would that help my battery life? or would it not matter because the pixels are still there being powered?
