  1. For some reason I had it in my head the 3200g was the first gen that had onboard graphics. Thanks for the tip. And you are right SSDs aren't cheap yet but years from now when 10TB SSDs are the norm in our laptops smaller ones will come down eventually.
  2. Due to the prices of older motherboards, and that there just aren't that many mATX mITX motherboards for older hardware. It seems like a Ryzen 3200g and a B550 motherboard maybe my best bet.
  3. Budget (including currency): ~$200-300 hopefully less, I don't need much compute, old hardware is fine. Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: OPNSense (a pfsense alternative) for my home network. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Quick Summary of what I need -mITX, maybe mATX Motherboard. It needs to fit in this case leaving at least the last 2 (of 7) PCI slots free -CPU to go with it at least as powerful as the Celeron J1900 -Capacity for at least ... 16 GB of RAM? though I guess 8 Is probably all I'd put it and all I'd ever need (famous last words right...) -enough PCI-E bandwidth on a single slot to support a 4 port 2.5Gb/s network card ideally with 1 full size x16 PCI-E slot -Low Power, I really really hope to reuse my existing PSU rated for 120/160 W. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005TWE6B8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 -Video output, It can be VGA as the existing board is, but onboard video would make things a LOT easier, I don't really want to waste the power or PCI-E slot running an external Video card just for console access in my rack. I actually dug up from my stash one of my old old old desktop boards, its an old LGA2011 socket with an i7-3820 that would work fine but its a full size ATX board and wouldn't leave room for my "Unraid hack" below.. I'm sure anyone reading this is thinking "..... WHY?????" So the long story.... I am running (in a completely different box) Unraid, I wanted the capacity to run a bunch of 2.5" SSDs as they drop in price. My router was previously crammed into this annoying 1u case, thus the tiny board and picoPSU. When I did a recent overhaul I moved it into this case I wanted to add to expand my Unraid capacity, becuase I wasn't using the space in this case for a motherboard anyway. Now I've got the the point where I want to have the router be capable of greater than 1Gb/s and the method I'm using to connect the NIC card just isn't cutting it. Yes this is crazy... No its not my fault... I blame LTT... this is how your brain works after watching them for the better part of a decade On the bright side, I will (should I ever want it...) have the capacity to add 60 2.5" SSDs
  4. That was my first thought, someone realized the release date / NDA should have been 2/5 instead of 1/5
  5. The fact they are that open with their Video Error Handling Process is just awesome. If I had the ability to relocate it seems like the kind of place I would love to work.
  6. I got about 30 seconds into the video paused it to grab a beverage and enjoy! Came back "video is no longer available" or something to that effect. Now I just simply don't know what to do with myself... haha
  7. A few years back I got a great deal on a thinkpad helix 2 (the 2nd gen) "Tablet" ??? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ThinkPad_Helix Its a windows tablet from the Intel Core M area. I upgraded the ram and slapped in an ssd and its been a fanastic little "Toss in my bag" for notes / watching videos. But the CPU and performace of the thing is more than showing its age now. I love the form factor! I'm also a fan of the thinkpad "nubin" but sadly know I can't really make that a requirement. Can anyone think of any systems that are more "recent, as in more than a generation or two newer than the Helix 2, that are out there? For its use case for me I can work with almost any OS. But I love these features of the helix Solid keyboard and mouse No kickstand! "Small" but not so small that they keyboard suffers in normal typing Tablet Mode. I've been using it in tablet mode on a tablet arm in my bed nighty to watch youtube videos / podcasts. If there is a really good keyboard mouse thing with a hinge for modern android tablets that would work for me. But I've never seen one, they all seem to have gone the kickstand route. If nothing else.... I wonder if I could find a diagram detailing the connections on the Helix 2 keyboard dock thing. and build something to connect that to a android tablet over usb c... then 3d print something to adapt to the hinge.
  8. In case anyone else comes across this searching for the same thing. I found this company https://earphonesplus.com/lg-tone-free-true-wireless-replacement-ear-tips/ The originally had a typo on this listing, listing it as compatible with the LG FN9, I couldn't find any reference to that product on LGs website so I thought it may have been a typo. Emailed them and it was, they verified for me that their part number (SKU) 092-TW45-111 is indeed compatible with the LG FP9.
  9. What do you mean by "TWS" units? Is there some kind of standard for ear tips I haven't heard of or something? If so would help my search for sure.
  10. After seeing the LTT video about the LG Tone Free FP9 ear buds I wanted to give them a try. I was excited about Linus's feedback about sleeping with them and how comfortable they are. I sleep with a set every night so I can watch tv without bothering my other half. I love them so far but with the silicon tips they come with 1) don't seal very well for me, enough that I don't get very good ANC and 2) they pretty easily work themselves out of my ears over time. I could probably head bang for a while but I think just moving my head/jaw around gets them to wiggle out over time. Especially annoying while I'm working on my macbook and every dam time I touch them the macbook opens iTunes.... I'm hoping to find a set of the "Comply" foam style, anyone had any luck finding them or any other replacement ear tips?
  11. I've had 1 smart watch. My old LG Gwatch R. Its battery life is failing and its so slow now that I really don't use it. Anyone following the scene able to give some recommendations? Must Haves Looks like a watch from a reasonable distance. (i.e. probably needs to be round but as long as its "sleek looking") GPS + navigation + map on the watch Audio control Replaceable bands, ideally with standard watch bands. Always on display of some sort, want to look at the time without waking it up. Google Pay LTE Mild water resistance, can wash my hands / get soaked in a rain storm with no worries. Nice to haves Extreme water resistance, i.e. go for a swim Google Assistant Side questions How do watches that support LTE get setup no adays? I've never had a device that didn't use a sim card, I'm assuming watches dont? FYSA I use Google Fi I heard there already is, or is about to be some big "team up" between google and samsung with Wear OS. Are we expecting new stuff coming down the pipe soon that would be worth waiting for?
  12. I've had a xclaim AP for years now been pretty happy with it. But its time to upgrade. I'd like something I can add addtional APs to form a Mesh network down the road, and that supports PoE and Wifi 6 with out spending a ton of money on an enterprise solution. I'd prefer to keep things simple with just PoE APs but if I have to get something with a built in router and just not use it well.... so be it
  13. In this case I'm not even connecting both cards at once. It works with 1 gpu, keep everything the same cables and all and swap to the other card instead and now power on.
  14. I would have tried that before posting but its a good 2 3 hrs of work to drain the loop and remove the card... haha
  15. Good idea unfortunately some idiot (..... me) designed this case with no basement access... when I put it together I had to have 2 friends hold it up in the air while I bolted the bottom half on. I would suspect the chances of the power cables (both sets mind you) working in card 1 but not card 2 are really really slim. But you are right totally possible. I guess for now I'm going to just toss an old air cooled GTX 780 in there for the 2nd gamer. With the pandemic I wont be having friends over to the house to game anytime soon anyway. This should let me get everything back up and running. Then down the road I could try to replace that card, or more likely upgrade them both. What's particularly aggravating here (other than the idiot that designed this case!!!! again... me...) is that I have a total of 4 GTX 980s.... The 2 in this system under those water blocks and 2 more EVGA 980s that were in my desktop until I upgraded to a 2080ti a while back. But... those are King Pin cards I got a deal on... So the blocks in this system aren't going to work with them otherwise I'd just swap that 2nd gpus water block onto another card.
  16. After extensive testing I have indeed confirmed the NES fix ..... had no effect at all.. lol
  17. Yup thats correct. I'll inspect the PCI-e connectors on the 2nd (bad) card and see if anything looks borked.... If that fails.... I guess I'll try pretending its a NES game and blow on it really hard until it works.....
  18. Check out the post in my signature. TLDR it was a Unraid 2 Gamers 1 CPU system running an EVGA SR-2 motherboard with Two overclocked Xeon CPUs Bunch of ram 2 GTX 980s 24x 3.5" Drives 12x 2.5" SSDs My napkin math told me it could in theory pull ~1300W But about 8-12 months ago it just died. Assumed the motherboard had given up the farm, now its appears maybe it was this GPU the entire time... O well it never could quite do the Gaming thing with that old weird.... but so very cool !... hardware. I had been waiting to put in a new Threadripper CPU to continue the level of "hardware awesomeness" it had before but I just can't responsibly spend $2k + on this right now maybe down the road. For now I took the 3700x out of my desktop PC and replaced it with a 3100 and put the 3700x in this with a new motherboard and that pretty well catches us up to today... err yesterday... What ever it is I've been up for 30+ hours putting in the new mobo and rebuilding everything at this point...
  19. Good call I'll remember to do that If I take the known good GPU with the known good Power and PCI-E ribbon cable and connect it to the 2nd X16 PCI-E slot on the motherboard (MSI X570 Ultra) system powers on as expected. If I take that exact setup but move the PCI-E ribbon (extension) cable and PCI-E power cables off the 1st known Good GPU and move them to the 2nd the System wont boot..... Well scratch that wont Power on. Hit the power button and I think sometimes I hear a click, but thats it.
  20. Thanks for the ideas. This issue was happening with out the cards actually connected to the motherboard. Just the power cables connected. So with our without the "faulty" gpu connected to the motherboard, if the PCI-E power cables are connected to that card it wont power on.
  21. Been at this PC rebuild all night and could use a "2nd pair of eyes" so to speak. Have this giant custom case I built, with a major design flaw.... its nearly impossible to get to anything in the "basement". I have a new x570 board with 1 of the 2 GTX 980s power cables plugged in system powers on fine even boots the OS. When I plug in power cables for the 2nd GTX 980 the system wont power on at all, nothing. I moved the "known working" power cables from the 1st card to the 2nd and see the same issue. Can anyone think of anything that could be wrong here other than that 2nd GTX 980 going bad, and so bad to a point that its causing the entire system to not even power on when its booted. For some history, this was working about 8-12 months ago with an old SR-2 Motherboard, assumed that old Motherboard died when it stopped powering on one day. I guess it could have been this GPU the entire time.
  22. I've built many many computers over the years this is my first since my previous i7 3770k Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro Wifi 3700x 2x 8GB sticks of Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR3600 And a EVGA 2080 Ti I previously had installed with my 3770k 512 GB Intel m.2 and a few sata ssds I've looked at all the obvious stuff so far. I reseated the CPU Checked for over heating Furmark hammering the GPU and Prime95 running in blend mode and I didn't come with in 20 or 30 degrees C of eithers thermal limit. I've run various benchmarks and a few games and it seems to run fine. But Heros of the Storm I've had it just be OFF completely at the snap of a finger about 6 times so far. After the first two incidents I went and did a bios update, and set the Memory to its XMP profile which seemed to match the specs on the box. Still powering off randomly. Its this "click" and video input is just GONE on both monitors. I've pulled the board out once already no weird shorts on a screw or something. At this point I'm running out of ideas. I'm going to be away for a week, but when I get back all I can think of to do is the following. - Replace the PSU - Replace the TrippLite PDU I have it plugged into. - Reset the GPU, CPU, and Memory one more time. - Grab my multimeter and check the power outlet in the wall Side note my roomates PC (in the same room on same house circuit) has been doing something similar now and then for a bit now, so a wall power issue isn't beyond belief. But I was over clocking the crap of my old 3770k (like 4.7 / 4.8 GHZ) so if we had bad power this whole time I think it would have shown it self there first. Also we are both using UPS(s) (different ones) though they are several years old now. I'm going to run a memtest when I leave in the morning and ask my roommate to let me know if it passes fails after a while, but if none of that fixes it it must be the Motherboard or CPU some how but I can't prove it, and don't know which. And if I have to return both I'm going to be dam tempted to drop an extra ~$100 or so and get a 10700k instead. Any chance someone has heard of something like this with these CPUs or this mobo, or have any other ideas that I haven't thought of yet? After 8 years on that old 3770k I was really looking forward to this and now its got me down, if you can think of something I'd appreciate it.
