  1. Hi guys, as of a couple of months ago I attempted to SLI two GTX 970's and according to my motherboard (Maximus IV GENE-Z) nothing was connected to the slot. The graphics card had power but otherwise I got nothing else. Anyone got any suggestions on this or if I want to SLI need I move to my back-up motherboard? Thanks!

  3. So the Samsung VA is launched? But not in Australia i'll bet? I'll wager the same with the Phillips and ill bet they are >$1500 with our pricing here. That being said, I was looking at it but the reason I was looking at 3440x1440p is the difference between 21:9 Ultrawide and the regular ol' monitors I have seen.
  4. After what seems to be an eternity of running 1080p and consistently half arsing my way through monitors (never owned an ips display), I am looking to splurge and treat myself with a highclass monitor that must last a minimum of 5 years. At the moment I have only seen the LG 34UM95-P and the AOC U3477PQU with samsung releasing one at....some point. I am ultra curious as to the 3440x1440 resolution and being in rural Australia have never seen what a high quality monitor actually looks like (I know) and want the best bang for the buck as we get shafted in Australia for pricing. I am also concerned if my rig could currently run games well enough at that resolution (see profile for rig). Thanks guys any input would be swell.
  5. Interesting though id like to point out being Australian we can't pick up the $99 deals on CPU'S like you can get other places. We get shafted hard.
  6. When you say 'smaller' are you talking R9 280(X) @Fate suggested? or R9 270(X)/ GTX 750Ti levels? So even a substantial OC would not bring the CPU up to spec? I have an Antec 620 Water Cooler around here somewhere to replace the CM 212+ if I decide to follow through.
  7. Hi guys. I got a 'old' computer system from a friend for a slab of beer (yes i'm Australian) and I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on how the specs hold up, especially the CPU, for modern gaming (Dragon Age Inquisition) etc are and whether this should be sold for parts or is a worthwhile investment? CPU: AMD FX 8120 Motherboard: ASUS 990FX Sabretooth CPU Cooler: CM Hyper 212+ RAM: 8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws (X)? 1600Mhz PSU: Gigabyte Odin Pro 800w Case: Fractal Design XL There is no graphics card, but I was wondering peoples thoughts if it is a worthwhile investment to drop $300 - $400 on a R9 290 or R9 290X to make this a backup/family/e-peen rig or if it will inevitably be a crippled platform? See my profile for my current rig as a point of reference. Cheers.
  8. A "non-conductive something" haha. Yeah the purchase was a spur of the moment and I didn't consider the width of the cooler. If unsuccessful I'll probably get a Havik 140 or splurge and get a X61/H100i and get it over and done with. I suppose the only option is to wait and see when it arrives and i'll have to report back the results. Cheers for the help mate.
  9. I have measured and it seems to be dead on 70mm .Is the 70mm inclusive of the total length? the fan clips, for example? If on 70mm does this essentially mean the heatsink will touch the backplate? Cheers mate.
  10. First time on LTT forum so bear with me. I currently own a Antec 620 cooler which by all accounts has given up the fight as no mounting or orientation config stops the god awful rattling. I planned on ordering a NZXT X61 but being in Australia it costs $160 plus an extra $25 dollars postage so I was holding off. Long story short I found a PH-TC14PE on sale for $70 and ordered it immediately. However after further research I found on a Maximus Gene-Z there may be compatibility issues with the first PCI-E slot and that may be further agitated by owning a ASUS GTX 970 strix with a backplate. (Somehow ended up with both ASUS products, who knew). I've checked the net but I can't find any proper answers so any concrete info if the cooler and graphics card will fit would be a greatly appreciated. Cheers.
