  1. The Xeon route is an option, but I did forget to mention I play a lot of games, so gaming performance is definetly a factor. But obviously not of key importance because the 1080 route would be kick ass as far as frame rates go...
  2. So this summer I'll be working for Camp of Champions as the head filmer/editor for all of their snowboarding media, and the workload is truely rediculous with brutally short time restraints. My current set up is an i5 4690k and a gtx 970, and 32gbs of ram, and all of my storage is PCIe ssd. I want to decrease render times and general speed of workflow in After Effects and PP cc in order to make my hours behind the screen as efficient as possible. I have a $1500 Canadian budget and I see a few options as far as upgrades go. I'm thinking either: 4790k + gtx 1080 OR x99 build (6800k) - this option would mean no upgraded gpu. I like the idea of moving to Broadwell-E just because of the future proofing nature and further upgrades (cpu wise) being possible. Thoughts? Thanks guys. Seb.
  3. Yea I addressed that in my description
  4. Finally got my custom sleeved cable extensions from IceModz and completed my first ever build! I've been running it for about 2 months with stock cables from my PSU absolutely fine, but the addition of the cables really did bring the whole build together, so I couldn't be happier with how it turned out! I've had a fair amount of people give me flak for not going all the way and spending $150+ on the Razer H440 case from NZXT, but at the time of purchase I was on a fairly strict budget, and going with the s340 allowed me to put around and extra 80-100 dollars into the hardware, and thats really where the money should be going! Though I do plan to upgrade to it in the future once my wallet has recovered from the possibly terminal injury it just received... So far she has run absolutely amazing, temps are reasonably cool for how bad the airflow is in the S340 and I am yet to find a game a can't run maxed out at 1080p. I'm looking forward to the coming years of glory that my rig outputs to GabeN. Parts: Case: NZXT s340 PSU: Corsair CX600M Mobo: Asus Sabertooth z97 mark 2 RAM: Kingston Hyper X Fury, (2x4) - 1866mhz. 5. So somehow I enabled a list view layout on my desktop... This really is not a big deal but it don't like enabling something and not being able to figure out how to turn it off... Plus its just plain old annoying! I've attached a photo of what exactly my desktop looks like, and would really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to revert back to just good old desktop icons. Thanks guys and girls.
  6. yea sorry for the confusion, I'm looking for a remote play/gamestream kinda feature. For on the go gaming.
  7. I'm building a reasonably budget oriented gaming build, (around $1000 Canadian incl tax). It seems like AMD cards have the best price-performance ratio but there is one factor that is keeping me on the green team: game streaming. I travel a lot so I'm planning on using an Nvidia shield to maintain my connection to Lord Gaben. Anyone got any news/helpful info for me? thanks guys and girls.
  8. Call me vein, but I'm doing a build in which I plan on murdering out almost all components except for a few green accents, yes, I'm a Razer fanboy. Anyone know any solid 1150 motherboards with either completely black or black/green? Thanks for the help people!
  9. I'm building PC basically solely for gaming, with the odd amateur Premier Pro project. I'm really stuck on which processor to get, I've decided that the $200-$250 so the 4690k and the 8370 seem like the best options. I'd like to hear people opinions on this topic because I'm sure many other have been or will be in the exact same position as me. Thanks guys!
  10. that's what I needed to know, thanks!
  11. So I'm currently in the process of getting my parts together for a $1500-$1700 (Canadian) build. Most of the budget is being dumped into the GTX 980 so I'm finding ways to actually stay within budget. I can save some coin by running a lower wattage power supply, though I'm staying 80 plus gold or above. Will 650w be enough to power the system. Most likely some light overclocking on both cpu (i5 4690k) and gpu (980). SLI is not really part of future plans... thanks for the help.
  12. If you want a cheaper and more gaming oriented CPU get 1150. There are way more options in terms of motherboards and they are far cheaper. However if you plan on doing some pretty hardcore content creation without compromise then get a 2011 mobo. The CPU's have more cores and will perform better in photo/video editing applications, and of course you will have to sell a kidney to get a board/cpu combo. Personally I'd rather spend the money on pleasing Lord Gaben and expanding my game library.
  13. Awesome! Thanks people.I've been craving some desktop hardware since the day I started gaming on a laptop.
  14. Hey guys! So recently I spilt water on my Razer Blade 14 (2013) and luckily have a very good 3rd party warranty through Square Trade. I should have around $2000 US (around $2200 Canadian) coming my way because the laptop was a total write off. I'm struggling with the decision between buying a new gaming laptop, most likely the new Blade when it comes out, or spending around $1500 on a very capable desktop along with a reasonably priced laptop strictly for school and other non demanding tasks. I do travel ALOT because I am a competitive snowboarder but the constantly evolving realm of game streaming via Nvidia Shield will provided me with enough confidence to travel away from a desktop. But on the other hand a thin and light gaming laptop will give me full access to the games I love everywhere I go, without being forced to stare at a phone-like display while getting rekt in games with the inferior controls of a shield. But of course sinking $1500 into a desktop will give me far superior performance over a laptop. Also as much as I would love to spend all 2.2k of my budget on a glorious face melting nerdgasm inducing desktop, duty calls, and that duty is school, so not buying a productivity laptop is out of the question... I would love to hear everyones opinions on this especially of anyone has been in a similar situation. Thanks for the help guys and girls! Seb.
