ZeroSix's Achievements

  1. Had 2 evga 970 SC (reference) and both had 'the whine'. Going back to return this second one and get either an MSI, G1 gaming, or Asus Strix
  2. I feel like this is a silly question, but I honestly don't know this so I figure I should ask here. If I purchase a gtx 970 with a backplate out of the box (Like an ASUS Strix or a Galax HOF) I wouldn't need to purchase a backplate after the fact to water cool right?
  3. The problem persists even when I don't use it. I end up removing the in-line volume controller and still get that sound bleeding, with both front and back i/o
  4. Is there any fix for sound bleeding and echoing in the mic? Is this common for the Hyper X headphones? I literally got these in today from Amazon, and the bleeding bothers me because others I am speaking with can hear themselves and any other sounds going through my headset. Been toying with the mic volume/mic boost in windows settings and nothing's makin' it go away.
  5. It's all about perception and perspective. I want my machine as quiet as possible, so coil whine is an absolute no go for me, since even after I put my water loop in my machine it will not dampen that kind of noise. For me, it was kind of higher pitched whirring while playing, very noticeable. It was a LOT easier for me to replace because of Microcenter's 30-day return policy though. I don't know how pleasant Gigabyte's customer support is, but if I were to speak for myself, I would RMA it.
  6. So I did all of what was suggested, and noticed that at in Elite when I capped it at 60fps It was still occurring, though it was far less obvious. It still bothered me enough that I went to microcenter and exchanged the card. Came back and ran some benchmarks, ran elite, all seems well. The mystery was solved. But like I said this was a first for me because that was my 3rd nvidia card and the very first time I ran into coil whine in any degree, so I wanted to be sure about what was happening before I boxed it up and exchanged it. I believe in the scientific method approach. Thanks for the replies (and the moderation).
  7. This is my first time even experiencing this noise and I'm on my 3rd nvidia card, and it's in one game only, running at around 100fps I believe, so I dunno
  8. So... Let me start off by saying I am 100% certain this belongs in one of the hardware sections but I have NOT SURE which part is generating the noise. I am assuming it is the GPU as I eliminated the only other moving part in my rig as a test and I still experienced the symptom initially noticed. OKAY, now that I got that out of the way... I have a 2 week old EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Superclocked (with the reference pcb) and I have been happy with it so far, okay with the average amount of noise that the blower fan generates, everything was normal, performance was (and is) very good. Today however, I started up Elite: Dangerous after they updated their client from Gamma 2.03 to 2.04, and noticed immediately that once I reached the title screen and the game began to load, there was a weird noise coming from my PC. It was audible above the quiet ambient noise coming from the four nzxt stock fans in my h440, the one 970 blower fan and the Western Digital Blue hard drive that were all spinning up in my system, heard despite the noise cancelling neoprene in the case. I pulled the windowed panel off and put my ear to the 970 which I thought was the culprit, then to the WD blue, and I couldn't discern which was causing the noise. it was like a weird constant line of bzzzz like you would get from a powerful speaker that had the volume cranked to 11 but no sound coming out, only with a little more whine, or twang? But I knew it wasn't whine from the blower fan. When I shut the game down, the noise stopped instantly. Just to be absolutely sure it wasn't a really awful hardware problem experienced under load, I went through games that I play on a regular basis. I played The Crew, did a couple missions, no weird noise. I played Ultra Street Fighter IV, Metro Last Light, etc etc etc and no noise at all. I started up Elite again, and the noise came back. It was definitely only that game. And it wasn't doing that before the update. Strange. I shut down my system and unplugged the fans (except the stock i5 cooler) and my HDD so that only the necessary components installed were the GPU, CPU, and SSD. I booted up and tried playing Elite:Dangerous again, and the noise was still there. So it's not the hard drive then, seeing as it isn't even powered up. It isn't the gpu fan. Then what the F#&% is it!? Should I be worried? That's a rhetorical question I am going to worry, this isn't normal at all. What is this noise and what is causing it? My Specs are in my signature below. All these parts are 2 weeks removed from the packaging, practically brand spankin' new.
  9. The whole idea/viability of free-sync has already been widely criticized by a lot of reputable sources. Having G-sync would hike the price of an occulus up a ton.
  10. That wasn't to you, if you look, that was to the less articulate reply I received. Both games are incomplete, that's the thing. Even when Elite is "officially released" that will only be a portion of what the game will have to offer in the future, it would be similar to Cloud Imperium only working on Squadron 42, and releasing that as a finished product first, and then adding the other modules as expansions one by one. That is the method Frontier is using here. So neither is really "finished" although the core of Elite's gameplay is surely near complete and ready to be packaged as a product. E:D's alpha compared to the Arena Commander Alpha were like night and day, and Elite was better even at that stage. I'm not even really 'debating' this I'm just pointing out what 'is' already. Also, there currently is no SC+DK2 since the experience with a DK2 in that game is currently awful.
  11. Eve: Valkyrie isn't a Sim either, it is more of an Arcade Dog Fighter than any game you've mentioned. Also It's not going to matter, it's already set in stone that the scale of the galaxy/planets are all SMALLER than Elite: Dangerous, and the way the game handles fast traveling and landing on planets has also already been done and talked about, I'm not making assumptions, these are documented facts and differences in how the developers made both games. Try doing your research before expressing an uninformed opinion or simply saying "Come back in a year". Also quite frankly, the combat in Star Citizen is also much more Arcade and less realistic than Elite and that is done by design. You can't say "Wait till it's done", they are already allowing people to play their game pre-release, so we can only judge based on what they allow backers to play, and what they show at gaming conferences and conventions. My statements are based on: A] What they have shown at Conventions and conferences, B] What I have played, and C)What each developer has planned for the future of both games. Both devs have given backers the ability to fly and dogfight in game for several months now, there is enough to compare the game as they stand currently. We don't judge games with a "Good until proven bad" formula, especially not when both games have put their alpha and beta out there for people to criticize and have detailed their plans to us, that is not how it works. You're also contradicting yourself by saying it's better but then saying "wait until SC is done", because the latter implies you are defending it for not yet being as good as it's competition.... Just a tip for a fanboy so you can better defend your currently overhyped and overfunded game..
  12. Correct it isn't anything like what the simulator conveys, and also the devs of the rift have already said the consumer version of the rift will be very high resolution and not have a lot of the issues that the dk2 or even the crescent bay have.
  13. SC isn't going to surpass Elite: Dangerous in any way. The game's space flight, ships, and scale are already more realistic and intuitive, and the expansions they are going to add will be doing many of what the "modules" in Star Citizen do, only in a seamless way, unlike Star Citizen. For example landing on planets will be done in free flight and seemless in the way that landing on planets in 'No Man's Sky' will be, and you'll be able to fly through the atmosphere of many more types of planets, unlike Star Citizen where you can only land on designated planets with specific star ports and it is done using a scripted event. I have been playing enough where I feel I could post a thread outlining the differences between Star Citizen and what Frontier has planned for Elite: Dangerous, as well as how the base release differs and in my opinion already outdoes Cloud Imperium's game in many areas. More on topic though, I don't think there is even a NEED to hit 4k60fps with a rift right now, that's kind of unnecessary IMO. I also doubt that the "Simulator" is anything close to what the experience is like, since it isn't much of a sim..
  14. SO, I've actually had this case for a couple of weeks, as well as the MSI Z97S Krait Edition. I just finally sold my old build that I had in the Define R4, and ran to microcenter to grab the base components for this one. First thing I noticed: Wow the cable management is awesome, case looks great. Second thing I noticed: The plastic they use for the window sucks. I already have a big scratch and I barely touched it. I plan on getting white cable extensions, grabbing a swiftech h220x and a block for the gpu, as well as getting 2x4GB sticks of white hyperx ram and putting them in the black dimm slots. Some white case lights and I'll be done with it. Also I'm not sure if I will keep the stock fans or grab some Fractal Silent series fans, because I was very happy with those.
  15. I don't mind having to go through initial setup upon first using it, and I've noticed that many throttles are vastly different in terms of button layouts, which is important especially in Elite: Dangerous when trying to map a button for lateral thrusters for side slipping. I'd prefer to have an 8 or 4 way hat for that. I know the X52 and X52 pro have an 8-way hat on the throttle but I'm not sure if I like where it's positioned (to be used with the index finger instead of the thumb) I'm not sure where the X-55 Rhino's 8-way hat is, and I have heard that the X52's stick is better (x55 being more stiff in the bad way) I'd like to hear from anyone who owns a rhino especially.
