  1. It's theoretically possible to have a powered Bluetooth transceiver that you can connect the dongle to, but if anything it'll degrade performance
  2. Hey there. I've actually done disk clones of Mac format drives before. Windows does not natively support HFS+, but software vendors such as Paragon do offer solutions. However, I found that running a Linux machine made the process much easier. I haven't tested via a virtual machine, but with a dual booted laptop, I could mount the HFS+ format disk, and clone it to an ISO file on a second disk with the DD command. DD can just as easily clone disk to disk, you might find THIS, THAT, or the OTHER link to be useful. Fun fact, because MacOS runs a UNIX kernel, DD is most likely built into the Mac, so you could setup the second disk as a slave on the Mac, and DD from the live system to the new disk, although you might not have access to other tools such as GParted to resize partitions correctly for Mac.
  3. Definitely a tricky one. There are inherent risks with any purchase through eBay (and other sites for that matter) but eBay does have some solid protections, provided you pay using PayPal. To the extent that, if the returns policy doesn't work out, either because they don't refund money, or replace the item, or just won't help, eBay Buyer Protection will normally side with the buyer and refund the money to the PayPal account (similar to a Credit Card chargeback). However, it is reviewed by eBay themselves, so evidence will be required either way if you are pursuing a purchase through Remax and subsequently have a problem with the order.
  4. I had some similar issues with my Twin Frozr GTX 770 a while back. I powered off the system, let it do a power drain (as in, completely isolate power from the system by removing cable or switching the PSU to OFF) and leave it for a good 15 minutes or so. Then, try booting it back up, and check for driver updates. Might also be worth checking your GPU is seated in the PCIe slot correctly. If it is still happening after this, it's likely an issue with the GPU itself, which you can either try cleaning up or just replacing.
  5. In that case, I would wait until 20171004 to see what the official announcement brings. As soon as they announce a 2nd Gen, I would expect prices on the current gen to drop, which would be an ideal time to hop in. For what it offers, Fi looks like a good option (at least, in the US) but, as with any fancy device, data usage can rack up quickly. Being the owner of a Gen 1 Pixel, I can vouch for the WiFi being some of the strongest I've used in a mobile device, outperforming the dual antennas in my laptop for stability and range. The stock Android experience is also very nice, as you get access to options that are actually useful without having to jump through billions of hoops...
  6. I would imagine you're looking for something along the lines of this unit. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00VE4UJD4/ I don't personally own one, so haven't tested it thoroughly to determine exact potential, but the power output should be sufficient for a few devices, especially given I have its little brother ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00O0KYMRI ) and am able to run 2 external 2.5" HDDs, some USB3 speed storage sticks, phone charging and an Afterglow360 controller from it simultaneously (while transferring data). Hope this helps
  7. From what I understand, the Pixel XL2 has no 3.5mm jack, eing built in the new chassis. The Pixel 2 will still be using the HTC chassis though, so chances are there will still be a 3.5mm jack. Technical note aside, I would imagine that stock for the Pixel 1 lineup will dry out upon release of the 2nd gen pieces, but that won't necessarily mean you can't get the previous gen model. I would recommend looking around at various carrier offerings, and if you have somewhere like Carphone Warehouse that you can go to and buy a unit outright, it is still a decent phone (expecially if the price drops for the 2nd Gen release)
  8. It's not about being paranoid, and it's not about just disabling advertising. As mentioned in my OP, i want to explore the potential for a heavily striped down install of Windows 10 that i can build on, rather than starting with the full fat version and trying to trim out all the stuff i don't need but can't remove because it's "essential". I don't need big data in the way Windows 10 does it. Frankly, I'm very happy for basic usage stats to be collected, on the premise that my files are, by default, NOT being uploaded to a service i have no control over for the purposes of "improving the experience". All standard Windows installs have things a power user won't necessarily want, but Linux can't offer things like DirectX which some pagans need to run. Hopefully other people will be able to provide useful contributions.
  9. Ahahahahahahaha that's a good joke. But seriously, if you think all the important settings are in the settings menu, you need to look into all the snooping, advertising and stuff that you probably don't need running that isn't in the settings menu.
  10. So Linus did that showcase of the windows embedded version customised to be actually awesome. Windows 10 IoT Enterprise is the equivalent of previous embedded versions. Is it possible to do something with this where is optimised as a workstation / gaming machine but without all the bloat, advertising and just general Microsoft insanity? I know i could just spin up a VM out to to run as a DC and perhaps an SCCM controller to handle it all myself, but the maintenance required compared to using OTA updates makes this an undesirable option. Anyone got any thoughts for this?
  11. I would kindly request the Razer blade, as I've been considering a new laptop with a useable discrete GPU for a while now.
  12. I see no glaring issues or anything with this. Good choice of power, CPU and MoBo. Nice RAM and Storage (perhaps add a HDD as well? 500GB fills up fast when installing games / productivity apps). Great GPU and case is your choice really. Have you considered closed loop cooling? Not that you necessarily need it, just helps keep things cool. Otherwise, the one issue I have with this, is that you've gone for WIn8.1 basic. Why not go Pro? Gives a lot more management features for windows, and allows you to run Hyper-V of older OSs in-case you need to run legacy programs.
  13. 770 twin frozr. Or 980 amp EXTREME ! Which is the better option? Perhaps both? I mean, I was planning an Intel based system at some point anyway
