My friend has this icon appear out of nowhere for a couple of days and then it disappeared. He has not install or removed any programs. He is using a Note 4 edge with stock a OS. We were thinking it could be a dock icon but since he does not have dock it rules it out. Thanks for the help

The pc above I build and purchased already for myself. As to why I bought the R9 280 I purchased them when it was going to be a cheap pc for myself. If I would waited I would have purchased something else. I was just using what I have bought to see if it was enough for him to use it has a Photoshop pc doing a lot drawing to start with. He is going to experiment with animation nothing heavy, very small things. He mostly will be using this pc as a media pc not a gaming pc From the list above I would remove: optical drive cooler One or both videocards Windows key So the questions is should i use what is left and add a i7 instead of a i5? Should I replace both video cards or just one? A better cooler? Or is there another path that I can go in with.

I have a buddy who is looking to purchase a new pc for content creation. He is going to be using for drawing and animation mostly. He is not going to be making super pro level work. Small independent projects nothing to crazy. He might be getting a Cintiq monitor in the future. His budget is around 1000. I build this for my self recently. If I remove the i5 for an i7, Remove both videocards and add R9280x, No need for windows key or monitor he has that already. Would that be enough or is there another route to take? Off topic how do I search the forums? I have tried looking for a way but I can not find it at all. So I changed some setting in Chrome and it seems to have worked so far. I have one final question. When I go to install windows I delete partitions and reformat the drives so no files are left. So why is it that when I finish installing windows and log in for the first time I see a wallpaper that I had download a while back? If i removed everything then it should be gone and a generic wallpaper should have been left. As for installing via a thumbdrive I will be doing that later today.
-
Tried that and did not work. I am going to uninstall Chrome on my other pc and see what happens later today.

Yesterday I was re-installing windows 8.1. I install everything with no problem. The first thing I should have done is install my antivirus and malware programs and I know better than that. In my haste I accidentally downloaded a program that looks like Google Chrome. As I was installing the browser. I was not paying to much attention on what it was doing. After it installed the 2nd program from the installer it hit me and alarms bells went off in my head. I realize my stupid mistake I had made. I figure might as well re-install windows. When i try to install windows it pulls information from my recovery partition which is infected. After everything is installed I go use my browser and I see 3 websites shortcuts and it has also changes some registry keys. I have done so many variables to try to get a clean install and nothing has worked. So far I have tried: Anti virus programs. It works but after a reboot it comes back. Spyware removal (Spybot, Malwares....) It works it finds folders and keys but after reboot it comes back again. Registry repair, again after reboot it comes back. Reformatting the hard drives. (I have 3 drives, SSD 250gig crucial 100, 1TB WD Blue, 4TB WD green) Removing partitions (In windows, Safe Mode, Command Prompt in and out of windows, With and without Administrator privileges.) Full system cleaning (The one that takes a long time to clean when you are going to sell your PC) Pc Refresh A Quick formatting Sometimes after reformatting or removing partitions in the cmd prompt it goes to x:\sources. I don't have an x: drive but I think it might be a virtual drive. I am not using any virtual drives. Tried to remove system recovery partition. It say it is locked and not allowed to remove it. (With and With Administrator privileges) Sometimes it does allow me and after reboot it comes back. This is my disk manager look like right now. Changed BIOS Settings to change boot order Having one drive enabled to install Windows Boot to thumb drive with myfreeapps.com to remove partitions, spyware, virus protection works but when I reboot it comes back. Not sure what to do next any advice would greatly appreciated. Thanks for the quick advice. It helped me stop stressing my self out.

The reason I have not installed the second card I was waiting for my local guy drop it off. He sometimes can get me great deals from work. I paid $120 for my second card. I have not messed to much on overclocking I just went and used gigabyte tweak program. Overclock to 4.0 I believe it is set at 1.106 volts. I just cannot remember how to overclock a pc safely. I am disabled and I suffer from brain fog. I have worked on pc for about 15 years and most of that is gone from my memory. Ambient temps in my room low to mid 60's I try to keep it cool. As for games right now I am playing Diablo III. Not sure where I am going next. At least I have not forgotten how much fun is playing on a pc. In games I am getting 40 to 50 on the core and cooler. I think I am just stressing my self out because I am not confident in my pc skills. I ran Prime and was not paying attention got it to 120 degrees. The bracket idea sounds like a good idea. Will read and re read the post to make sure I get it, Thanks.

I have looked everywhere to find out what are the average temps for the liquid inside of a closed loop cooler. I bought a NZXT Kraken x31 for $30 locally. I wanted to try it out since I have never had one before and they weren't even available when I build my last system 9 years ago. I think it is to small of a cooler for my rig. I bought it before I changed my mind and budget my. It was suppose to be just a web browsing PC. I know I need to add at least another fan. I am currently using 2 fans that came with the case. My temps average 30 to 38 degrees and the CPU is usually 4 to 5 degrees warmer. The PC is mostly for web and games no photo or video work. I am running small overclock nothing to crazy. I adjust fans speed depending on what I am doing. Right now fan speeds is 95% CPU is at 35 degrees and Liquid at 32 degrees, I am just browsing the net. The questions that I have are. 1. What should I do? 2. Are these temps ok? 3. What cooler should I get? If that would benefit or resolve the issue budget is around $120 4. I have not installed the second GPU should I wait to install? 5. PC will be in use around 10-15 hours a day. Thanks for you time and advice. I could not search this site because I don't have a search bar anywhere. Not knowing where my memory that I installed went. I had 4 gigs of ram (pc is 8 years old). Since I had not done a proper cleaning of my pc in a long time I figured there was a lot dust causing issues. Got ready to clean and I popped open the case and I was shocked what I saw. Besides the dust I only see one stick of ram.The stick is also from a different brand that I installed. I have no idea when or where the other stick went. It would have been hard for someone to steal it. I am disabled and I never leave my computer or home. Also my family has no computer knowledge and would not know how to steal it or have a need for it.

I have had this user name since 1994 or so. I made it to log on to my Prodigy account. Trying to explain technology to my dad on why we needed a second phone line was hell.

To buy or not to buy that is my question.

Thanks for the advice. I don't think I can purchase an intel product. Just looking at it in the shopping cart makes me sick. I feel that it is the evil red headed stepchild of cpu's. (i5 $$K) -
I love my PC but it's time to retire my AMD Athlon 64 3800+. It has had only one component that failed, the PSU died about 5 years ago. I did manage do some upgrades. I originally started with a 3000+ moved to the 3800+. Better ram and more back up space. My main is 80 gigs and the backup is 180 gigs. I wanted to upgrade more but life came in the way. Since I have not paid much attention to PC parts in nearly 5 years or so I am a bit lost. I can’t remember last year’s deals but I did find some ads but with tech being so fluid it is hard to pin it down. I did order some parts already, my case (Fractal R4 with window) and my video card (Asus R9 280) I bought the card for $189 after discounts and also a bonus of 3 free games. But before I continue buying parts I have some questions. Since we are very close to the start of Christmas sale season, should I wait till then or just buy now? Where there any crazy deals going on? What is the best way to follow the deals? Do parts seem to wear down a lot quicker now than before? Any major companies that I should stay away from? I will be going to Intel i5 for the first time in my life and that makes me feel weird. I don't see a future with AMD but I am an AMD fan boy. AMD FOR LIFE YO! My PC plan is that I don’t think I will over clock. I just want a good mid level PC with a future. I will be spending around $800-$1000. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
