  1. Budget (including currency): sub 750 Euros Country: Portugal Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming Other details Small form factor ITX build to use in the living room connected to the TV. hello, how are you? I am trying to piece together a build to game on the TV. after some searching and deal hunting, I got the following spec list: Cpu: 8700 Cooler: Bequiet Shadow Rock LP Board: Asus H370i Strix Memory: Patriot 2x8 DDR4 3200 CL16 PSU: Chieftec 650W SFX 80 Plus Gold Case: CM NR200P HDD: Mushkin 1tb m.2 pcie SSD GPU: Sapphire Pulse Vega 56 Controller: Xbox One controller with wireless adapter keyboard and mouse: Logitech K400+ This would set me back 730 euros. What do you think of this build? how would it fare on the latest AAA Games? and how would it compare to a 500 euros Xbox Series X? Thank you. Cheers!
  2. Hello, I am currently planning and piecing together my new build. For CPU, I am currently decided on the AMD 3700x on a b550 board. In regard to Ram, I just don’t know. 3200 CL16 is at an excellent price at the moment. But I don’t know if that spec is good enough for the 3700X or if performance would be greatly improved by spending more and getting better ram. 3600 CL15 or 3200 CL14 can be almost double the cost for the same capacity, so I don’t know if the added expense would bring better performance or if it would just be marginal at best. The goal of the build is 90% gaming. Thank you for your help. cheers!
  3. thank you for your reply. I was thinking about the 3700 with 8 core and 16 threads as to mimic the cpus on the next gen consoles, the Ps5 and Xbox Sex. I think when we go deeper into next gen, and after the cross gen period, most games will be developed wih the consoles hardware in mind as the lead platforms, so 8 cores seems the way to go. But I agree that a 3600 would be way cheaper. As for case, yes, it could prove a challenge. my last pc build was an itx with a 1080ti. i built on a RVZ02 and used a blower style gpu and it was awful in regard to noise and thermal performance. i definitely don’t want to repeat the same mistake. but the wife doesn’t let me have a standard computer tower on the living room, so I am currently looking at cases also. Leaning towards the InWin A1 Plus. we’ll see... Cheers
  4. Budget (including currency): 1200 to 1500 euros Country: Portugal Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: mostly gaming. AAA games mainly. Other details The objective is to do a build for the living room, to have next to the TV and use as a console replacement. I am thinking ITX, but mATX could also work if I could find a case small and aesthetically pleasing. Hello, So with the NVidia 3000 series announced, it is time for me to go back to PC. I want to build a new living room PC. The GPU will either be the 3070 or the 3080. I will make my decision once the reviews start to go online. But it is time to plan the rest of the build. I am thinking about an AMD Zen 8 core platform. But these are my main questions at the moment. CPU. is the 3700 the best choice or is the added cost of the 3800XT worth it? I am thinking about getting the 3700 and then upgrade to a 4000 zen cpu down the line. Memory. for the 3700 or 3800 is 3200 CL16 good enough? or would the system benefit greatly from faster ram like 3600 or lower latency ram like cl14? Board. Should I go b550? Or can I save some money and get a cheaper b450 like the gigabyte Aorus B450 itx? if I go b550, is something like the Asrock b550m itx enough? or is it worth it to spend more on the b550 phantom gaming itx? I guess this is it at the moment. I would love to have your input to plan the build and have it ready to pull the trigger when the 3000 cards go on sale. cheers!
  5. Hello, wih the recent Nvidia announcement I am planning a build around the new 3070 for the living room. the goal is to be a small, silent and discrete gaming pc that can be on the living room, next to the TV. I think I have currently shortlisted 3 cases. the Dan A4, the Jonsbo A4 and the InWin A1 plus. The Jonsbo looks good, but with the tempered glass side panel, I am afraid it could choke the GPU and be noise. it can take two bottom 120mm intake fans and 2 top exhaust fans, but the GPU cooler sits behind the glass, so I just don’t know. the InWin has a good price, comes bundled with a decent gold rated 650W psu. but I am also uncertain about the thermal performance. finally the Dan looks great, but I am afraid of temperatures, mainly the CPU as I am planning the build around a 3700X and the Dan has limited cpu cooler clearance. so, based on this, can you please help me choose? thank you, best wishes
  6. You make some valid points. The thing is that when I start reading, there are issues everywhere... The poco f1 with LineageOS can be buggy because it is a custom non official rom. I go to the xda thread and of course many issues there. The Pixel camera port can also be hit and miss and can have issues with buffer, lag and such. But then, the Pixel can also have bugs. There are numerous reports of slowdowns and bugs on pie updates. Then the poco can also have latency issues with the touch... I just don't know. An iPhone 8 plus is dam expensive at 575 euros, but those seem to work and have a great software experience.
  7. Why do you say that?. Because the issues said online of blue tint at angles and risk of burn in?
  8. Hello, how are you? I am looking to get a new phone before Christmas. I am hearing a lot of buzz about the Pocophone f1. I can get the 64gb version for 265 euros here. I really like stock android so if I get the poco I would flash LineageOS to it. On the other hand, I can also get a pixel 2 xl for 420. It is a difference in price, so I am wondering what is the best option. From what I can tell, the pixel has the better camera and is the official Google phone, so it has perfectly integrated stock Android. But it also has issues and reading about it online is scary as there seems to be multiple issues with the display, with the speakers and with the phone loosing performance after a while. The poco has a better and faster soc, more ram and a bigger battery. But I would have to flash lineage os, then the bsg pixel camera port and the gapps from open gapps to have it perform like stock android and that could go wrong in many ways. So, based on this, what do you consider the better option and why? Thank you.
  9. Thank you for the replies. Even in regard to smooth frametimes and good minimums? Can ryzen deliver that smooth 60 fps lock at 16.6ms frametime?
  10. Hello, how are you? Working on a build. The goal is 4k gaming at 60hz. Mostly 2160p, but migh also go for custom resolutions of 1800p or 1620p when 4k cannot be used at 60fps. Anyway, I was looking at using a Ryzen 2600 as the cpu for two reasons. Number one is the price. Since currenlty there seems to be a shortage on intel CPU's, the 2600 is 60 euros cheaper than an i5 8400 and costs almost half as much as an 8700. The other is thermal. Since this is a SFF build on a Dan Case A4, I think the soldered heatspreader on the Ryzen can deliver better thermals than the TIM on the intel cpus. Anyway, for the use with a 1080ti on 4k or sub 4k at 60fps, is there any difference in the 2600 vs the intel solutions? Thanks. Cheers!
  11. Thank you for your replies. Use case is small form factor, so that's why I ask because single drive is better for cable management.
  12. Hello, how are you? I am wondering if for a gaming machine is better to have a separate smaller ssd for windows install and a bigger drive for the steam and uplay libraries? Or if it is OK to just have a single larger drive for everything. I always heard that two separate drives was better because that way the os drive wouldn't be filled and could have free space to allow the system to breathe and not choke up. Any truth to that? Cheers
  13. Hello, how are you? Looking at upgrading my sound. My TV is a Sony Xe90 and while the image is great, I find the sound to be lacking. Specially is dialog. I like to game without subtitles for the added immersion but sometimes the dialog can be really muddy and difficult to understand. I really have to crank up the volume, but then I find the audio gets too compressed and details start to go away. So I am looking at a simple solution to improve my gaming experience and immersion and also provide better sound quality for the rare occasions I watch some Netflix. I am torn between either getting a soundbar like the Samsung ms650 that is a 3.0 system so with its dedicated centre drivers should do a good job at dialog. And also is supposed to sound good with its individual amped drivers. Or go with a 2.1 system like the edifier s350db. I think it can provide better stereo separation and wider Soundstage. Also, real speakers in speaker enclosures should sound better than speakers tucked in a slim bar. Or the laws of physics should so dictate. Or another option is forget the assle of setting that up and just get some Sony platinum headsets to game and call it a day. Anyway, what's your input in this? Any experience in this matter? Thank you. Cheers
  14. On this list: https://www.gamesradar.com/ps4-pro-confirmed-games-list/ There are lots of games the PS4 Pro renders at 1440p and some even at odd resolutions like 1620p. So these games on a 4k tv are not running at the native resolution of the TV. So how come they don't look like crap like a PC does outside the native resolution of the monitor? PS4 has some secret sauce here?
  15. Hello, Trying to understand this. I always heard, since the first lcd monitors appeard on PC, that it should always run at the native resolution or it would look like crap. So if a screen is 1080p in resolution, a game should be run at 1920x1080 and if a screen is 4k, then the game should be run at 3840x2160. But most games on the PS4 pro dont run at 3840x2160. There are plenty that on the Pro run at 1440p resolution. Is the result the same if I run my pc at 1440p resolution connected to a 4k tv? Or does the PS4 somehow makes non native resolution look better? I am not talking about games like uncharted or horizon that use checkerboarding to output at 4k resolution. I am talking about games like crash bandicoot for example that run at a fixed 1440p on the PS4 pro. Cheers!
  16. Hello, I am looking for a new headset for gaming. There are many, many options out there, but so far I am between these two. The centurion is a true 7.1 headset with 5 individual drivers on each ear cup. The arctis is a classic stereo headset with 40mm drivers but the included dac and amp combo has virtual dts:x surround. With this in mind, is the true 7.1 worth it? Anyone has the centurion? What are your thoughts? Cheers!
  17. Hello, how are you? I currently have a build with a Z370n wifi. The board has a 1220 audio codec and also an on-board headphone amp. But for convenience I would like to game with headphones but plug them to my Xbox one controller. I have the Xbox one controller version 2 with the USB wireless adapter, also the second version, the smaller one. If I plug the headphones to the controller, how does that work? Is the sound still processed by the 1220 chip? That is the dac even if the headphones are plugged to the controller? But the headphone amp is bypassed? Is there a loss in audio quality? Thank you. Best regards
  18. HI, I am from Portugal, so EU prices. I am looking to spend around 200 euros and 300 is my top budget at the moment. Cheers
  19. Hello, how are you? I finished my new build and setup. Built an itx pc on a Ml08 and got a 55 inch 4k tv. So far I am loving it and gaming at native 4k at 60fps on a 55 inch screen is really something. But now I am debating with sound. At the moment I just have the pc connected by HDMI to the TV and I am using the TV speakers. The TV is a Sony Xe90. While it doesn't have terrible sound, it is not good either, so I am looking at improving it. I don't want to break the bank and I don't want to get a complicated system with a receiver and lots of speakers. So I am looking at either getting a 2.1 or 3.1 soundbar or getting a pair of studio monitors to have a 2.0 setup with each speaker on the side of the TV. The final option is to get a 2.1 pc system like the logitech z625. But I don't know what would be better. The usage would be 70% gaming and 30% movies and Netflix shows. I am a complete newbie in audio setups, so I am looking for some help. Thank you. Cheers
  20. Hello, how are you? I am thinking about this. Currently, all TVs that support Hdr only have HDMI 2.0 inputs. This input limits the full usage of Hdr with a pc as source. This is because HDMI 2.0 can only display 4k at 60hz with Chroma 444 but only with 8bit color. To be able to use 10 bit color you need to drop the Chroma subsampling to 422. So, with any current TV, you can either game at 4k 60 with 444 and 8 bit Hdr or 4k 60 with 10 bit Hdr but 422 Chroma. What I want to know is how bad does any of these options limit the image quality? For example, on the ps4 pro, assassin's creed origins supports Hdr. But since the game on the ps4 only runs at 30fps, it can run full 10bit Hdr and with 444 Chroma. On the pc, the same game has Hdr support. But to run at 60fps you either have to drop the Hdr to 8bit or drop the Chroma to 422. In either case, how would the game look? What is the better trade-off? And are both pc options worse for image quality compared to the ps4 pro version? Cheers.
  21. I have a Gigabyte board. A z370n wifi.
  22. Hello, how are you? I am looking at a software to be able to control the cpu cooler fan manually from windows. Kind of like what afterburner does for the GPU. I want to have the board be able to control the fan with the default fan curve so that under normal conditions the fan is quiet. But then, I would like a software to allow me to manually bump the fan to 100% (1300 rpm) before launching a game. Like I have in afterburner. I have my default fan curve to have while on the desktop and browsing. But before I launch a game, I like to manually set the gpu fan to 65% as that gives me good temps and I don't really like the up and down noise while gaming that I get with variable fan speed, Any such utility? Thanks. Cheers!
  23. Hello, how are you? I got an Xbox one controller with the wireless adapter. Both the controller and adapter are the new versions. The adapter is the new smaller one. It installed plug and play and worked great. But every now and then, randomly and for no reason, the controller looses sync. I am in the middle of a game and the controller stops responding. I have to unplug the wireless adapter from the USB port and plug it back again. Then the controller syncs again and it works great again. This is totally random. I can play for 3 hours in a row and not have this happen. Or it can happen in the first 20 minutes of gameplay. It is not very frequent, but still annoying. Anyone have a similar issue? Any solution? Or is this a hardware fault? Cheers
  24. Hello, The case I am using, the Silverstone ml08 is a passive case and has no place for case fans. But I seem to have tamed the card. I tuned it and now it runs at 1860mhz with 0.9v and Temps stay below 80 with fan below 70%. I am happier after this tune up. But the case and card still get very warm to the touch.
