  1. I have an Acer X223Wbd monitor. I'm wondering if I build a new system that only has DVI Dual Link outputs will my old monitor still work with the new system? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009145
  2. Also, I'd I switch to a single 8gb ram stick, would I notice a huge difference?
  3. @SuperPug How about something like this? I included a case, because I may be able to pass down my old pc to my wife and that may smooth things over a bit for going a bit over budget. 4. @AlexTheRose @SuperPug Thanks for the input. I do play more than WoW although that's what I play most often. I've done some "building" reusing my Hard drive and Case. How does the G3258 compare performance wise to the i3 you guys have linked?
  5. I was planning on building a new pc this year, but finances tightened up a bit so that's out. I'm wondering if there's any way to upgrade my current system to be able to handle World of Warcraft at more than 2 fps in 25 man raid settings at the lowest graphic settings lol. I was thinking I could upgrade my RAM to http://pcpartpicker.com/part/kingston-memory-kvr800d2n6k24g and raise that to 8GB. The video card definitely needs an upgrade and maybe a small SSD if I can squeeze it into my budget. I'm in the US and am not wanting to spend much more than $300 on upgrades if at all possible. 6. I assume the one from ninite (which is classic shell I believe) should be fine?
  7. I'm building a new computer and am looking at putting windows 8.1 on it since it's the newest windows right now. But I really want the classic interface. I recently found the video Linus made on using ninite.com to get the classic start function. I guess my question is if anyone is using this, how bad is it on your system resources. Is it even significant at all?
  8. Just a bit more than I'd like to spend on the drive atm. I've actually considered doing this exact thing, I've never used plastidip personally, I suppose it's no different than just ordinary spray paint for using this though? Just use painter's tape to cover the connectors and go to town?
  9. I'm looking at my new build and am going to get an SSD for OS and some of my frequently played games. I'm coming from a WD Caviar Black drive in my current rig, so I'm sure any SSD will be a huge improvement, but I'm trying to get the best bang for my buck in this build for this SSD. I'm looking for a 240gb+ drive that is preferably black or red (it's going in an H440 and will be visible) and am looking to spend around $100ish US. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I've heard the Crucial mx100 is a good one, as is the ADATA SP900 as well.
  10. In the new build I'm working on, I'm planning on going with a red/black theme and really the only 2 options are the Strix and the MSI Twin Frozr V. I really like the MSI version, but it doesn't come with a backplate, I've done some searching and haven't been able to come up with anything so far. Does anyone have any idea where I could find a backplate to fit this, or somewhere that could make a backplate for it?.
  11. @drewjn So the Kraken fans are decent? I think I'm leaning that way, as I've done a little more youtube watching today and people seem to love it.
  12. I've been doing a little research and found that the H100i isn't good from multiple people's accounts. So I've found that there are a couple of options that are pretty decent. Corsair H105: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-cpu-cooler-cw9060016ww or NZXT Kraken X61: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/nzxt-cpu-cooler-rlkrx6101 I'm trying to figure out which of these would be best to use in my build using a 4690k in an H440 case. I'm open to other suggestions, but would like to stay with a closed loop cooler, as I like the clean look that it provides over an air cooler. Also I'd like to stay right around $130 US for the price.
  13. So, something more like this would be better? 14. A high school friend has asked me to help her come up with a build to replace her 5+ year old PC. 1. Budget & Location Her budget is around $1200 US for the system. Location is USA 2. Aim Writing, mostly. School work. Editing some music and video editing (Video: 3-5 minutes and avg. about 100MB). Minecraft. 3. Monitors Would like a 23" monitor included in the build. 4. Peripherals Have a wireless keyboard and mouse she will be reusing. She will need Windows. 5. Why are you upgrading? Her PC is old and she's ready for an upgrade. The build I came up with is a bit over budget, I'm wanting some opinions on it and maybe some places I could cut some cost. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor ($289.99 @ NCIX US) Motherboard: ASRock H97 PRO4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($87.98 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($154.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Crucial M500 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($69.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.98 @ OutletPC) Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 270X 2GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($169.99 @ Newegg) Case: Fractal Design Define R4 (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case ($109.99 @ NCIX US) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($59.99 @ Newegg) Optical Drive: LG UH12NS30 Blu-Ray Reader, DVD/CD Writer ($34.99 @ Newegg) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($89.98 @ OutletPC) Monitor: Acer H236HLbid 60Hz 23.0" Monitor ($129.99 @ Newegg) Total: $1252.86 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-11-10 22:46 EST-0500
  15. I guess I'm not dead set on the Noctuas but I know they are great silence/performance ratio fans. I'm open to other suggestions as well.
  16. I'm looking at adding some intake fans to my old build that I will be giving my wife once my new one is built. The case is an Antec 300 case and was wondering if I should go with the NF-F12 or a different one for intakes. I've heard the static pressure would help with the drive cage being in the way of the intakes.
  17. I like the idea of mounting it under the front panel. But what about a push button on/off switch such as. http://www.amazon.com/SPST-PUSH-BUTTON-SWITCH-ON-OFF/dp/B006M3FJVE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415127150&sr=8-1&keywords=spst+push+on-push+off+switch?
  18. I believe it's on the back, which would be all but impossible to reach in my setup.
  19. I'm looking at putting some white LEDs in my new build in the NZXT H440. But would like to put a push button switch somewhere on the case to turn them off if needed. The question is what switch would you recommend, and is there a good location to put it?
  20. I love the Power Supply, it's fully modular, perfect wattage for what I need and even the color scheme matches!
  21. I love the looks of those Aerocools.
  22. It doesn't have to be the corsair I just want a fan that's preferably going to match the red/black scheme.
  23. I'm looking to buy a NZXT H440 for my new build and I'm thinking of replacing the front and rear fans with higher performance fans. Any suggestions. I'd prefer to keep the rear exhaust as the corsair AF120 or 140 since it will be visible, but I'm open to suggestions. (I will be using an H100i on the top of the case with the supplied SP fans)
