  1. Hey, guys. I built my first computer about a month or two ago and I've noticed something strange when observing the clock speed of the card. I have a Zotac GTX 1060 Mini and the boost clock is advertised at ~1700 MHz. The thing is, without overclocking, or any other hardware modification outside of a custom fan curve, my card reaches a maximum 1911 Mhz consistently while staying within the assigned temperature limit. Considering how new I am to observing things like this, is this a normal phenomenon? What differences do you guys see between advertised core clocks and real world performance?
  2. Right? Where are the mainstream 4K 16:10's? It's time for the future.
  3. My man, I am decimating everything at native resolution and if that 30 fps cap wasn't there I can guarantee you I'd decimate these games too.
  4. I'm currently using a Dell 2009 Wt as my monitor because I was able to cop it for $20. The problem is when I run games (CS:GO and Skyrim) in DSR the frame rate is capped at 30 fps. Is this because I'm running my monitor over HDMI to DVI or what because I'm stumped.
  5. Alright, lads. I've done it. I've built my first computer Windows is downloading to be installed on a USB as I type this. Here's essentially what I want to know. I've got two fans in this case and I have no idea if they'll provide the cooling I actually need. They're both intake one a 120 mm cougar fan that came with the case and the other a Noctua NF-P14 Redux. I want to do some stress testing to make sure my thermals are good and the system won't thermal throttle. What're some good (free) stress testing software packages and some good temperature monitors that I can use?
  6. In that case is it possible for me to set up a connection between my computers by connecting them via Ethernet cable and just going into explorer and literally copying everything that isn't the OS onto the new drive that way? Would the computers show up to each other through the network tab?
  7. I'm planning on building my first computer soon. I already have a laptop with about 350 GB of files, programs, settings, memes, etc. that I'd like to keep handy. I was thinking that I might be able to clone my laptop's drive onto the 1 TB drive I'll use for my build, but I have no idea how that will work as far as activation goes. I know Windows will probably ask for a method of activation on the new drive for which I'm prepared to buy a new key for, but will cloning the drive allow my laptop to boot with its drive without asking for a method of activation? Thanks in advance.
  8. My current rig is my laptop. It has an i5-4200u with integrated graphics. That's it. I can run Overwatch on lowest settings with 50% render scale and get 50 frames on a good day... I need this card. I'm currently at a summer job earning some cash for my first computer build and had planned on putting an RX 480 because of its great price for amazing 1080p performance (although the monitor i copped before hand that I'll be using for the build is a 16:10 with a 1050p vertical resolution. Winning this card would be a miracle and would cut the cost of my build by about $200 US which I can put towards a better processor, (on a more responsible note) textbooks next semester, or an exhaust fan! I know content of the post doesn't amount to much in a giveaway like this, but this is my sob story. Please pity me, oh mighty selector of winners!
  9. I'm taking a summer stats course and I have to do a project over the chi square test. If you're unfamiliar with it, it's basically a test designed to test the agreement between an observed group of variables and what's expected from that set of data to see if a sample reflects a large population. For the project I'm using the Steam Hardware survey for my expected results, but I'm using a sample of people across multiple social media platforms to get results for the observed category. Considering most people I know online aren't very tech savvy I figured you guys were a good place to collect data from. All data collected won't be used outside of this classroom. Here is the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L39K5G7
  10. This is incredible. How's the microarchitecture of this processor generation perform? It wouldn't bottleneck an R9 480 or gtx 960 would it?
  11. I want to play Overwatch on 100% render scale at a pretty consistent 60fps. However, going above and beyond that would be p good too. I've honestly got no budget, I just want it to be good, cheap, and not kill itself. I'll probably just stick to 1680x1050 because the monitor was only $20 USD.
