This is not true. With the Phthonos build we were able to match the console performance for around the $440 mark. If you see the results we able to match both the Xbox One and the Playstation 4 fps at rated resolutions. IGN did a article not long ago where they gathered the fps vs res vs console. Its basically the same as my results in the Phthonos build. Phthonos build goals was to beet the consoles. I think you are missing the point here. This is an experiment to see how the AMD 5350 with a dedicated GPU does in games. Our goal was 60 fps, 1080p at medium settings for $400. From the results we have mixed answers. But we can see that we are close to the point a truly budget APU or CPU could meat our goals.

For the price of the 4150 you can get a AMD 5350, plus a motherbard and a cheap case. I am wondering how an Intel G3240 or G1850 would stake up against this though.

You are the only who noticed the PCI-E X4 issue. Its was something that I have been worried about since I first read the spec sheet. With an un-named GPU I was able to hit 58 fps average with the bio shock benchmark using medium settings and 1080p. I am a little worried still because the Bioshock tends to run smoother then most games out there. I have some plans tonight so wont be able to bench all the games tonight but I can say it is a little more promising knowing at least one game is able to reach the goal so far. I have named this project after the Greek god of jealousy and envy, Phthonos (Phthonus). I guess you can call it exactly what it is. Project Goals 1) True 1080p gaming 2) At 60 fps with medium settings 3) Around the $400 mark Recently AMD has launched their new AM1 platform. Bringing the same jaguar cores found in both the Xbox One and PS4 to the desktop market. The AM1 platform brings us four jaguar cores instead of the eight cores found in the next GEN consoles. Also the next GEN consoles both have a higher speed memory. When it comes to GPU has looks like Sony went four either R7 265 or R9 270 while Microsoft went four either R7 265 or R7 260. So it seems like we have our work cut out for us. Right away people will be comparing this to a gaming PC or even HTPC. That is not the goal, the goal here is to outperform the next GEN consoles. Questions like can it play this PC game or that PC game is not what we're trying to answer here. The games that I will be testing will be cross platform games.This is as much a computer build as it is an experiment. Of course I used a black and green colour scheme. The reason behind this is play of words. Green with envy and green eye monster. I started by removing the pieces I wanted to paint and sanded them down with 220 grit. Then I dried them and painted. To get a thin layer of paint you can leave you paint can in the warm water for 10 mins before you use it and then leave it there between coats. The front mesh was painted yesterday and I did the clear coat on all the mesh pieces today. I started painting the fan ring today. I love the Corisair SP 120 fans but I am not to sure if this paint will stick to them. I might just change the fan out later.

I am still working on some tweaks that will boost the performance if needed. Also just did the Birds 1080p mkv playback test(42 megabits per second). Its was a success with VLC player but very chopy with Divx player. Which means Blu-ray playback has been conformed.

I have been dreaming of building my own console for years. Now that the PS4 and Xbox One both use a semi-custom design APUs from AMD I have been waiting to build a truly magical box for the living room. That day has come with the release of AMD's new desktop APU's. The AMD Athlon 5350 has 4 jaguar cores, 128 radeon cores, 2 mb L2 cache, gigabit ethernet, USB 3.0 support, PCI-E 2.0, DDR3 up to 1600 Mhz and is only 25W TDP. Did I forget to mench this chip only cost a mind blowing $60. The Asrock AM1H-ITX motherboard is the most feature rich motherboard to be launched along side this brand new APU. The board really sets its self a part from the competitors with some powerful features. This is one of only couple boards with PCI-E X16 slot and 8 channel audio with optical out. Also has mPCI-E, two dimm slots for RAM, motherboard header for SATA power and can even run off of a external 19V power adapter. With features like this I can't wait to see what other builder will make with this board. The AMD Athlon 5350 and Asrock AM1H-ITX board will only set you back $100 together. Now that's a real deal! I am going to try to build a Xbox killer with this. The idea will be to build a machine that can do 1080p med settings at 60 fps solid, and around the $400 price mark. Stay tune for update.

I wish I had this card. I was willing to sell my 290 plus the water block and back plate and make up the difference for my build. But a wooping $1500 is just $200 out of my price range.
