  1. Blu-rays and DVDs have copy protections and things like region locks that you want to circumvent to make an unencrypted (unprotected) backup of the data on there. Flashing a custom firmware is like jailbreaking the drive so that it just circumvents/ignores these measures and gives you direct access to the movie files by making it LibreDrive compatible. It's not necessary for some drives since they can be LibreDrive compatible out of the box like the one I posted earlier, but many will require flashing.
  2. For DVD menus you can just drag the .iso into VLC and it should work just fine. For BluRays it's a bit more complicated since they're more complex programs that rely on Java. Although from what I read it should also just work in VLC if you have the right Java version installed. All in all not a great experience. FWIW they don't really bother with soulful menus anymore so it's fine to just ignore them.
  3. LibreDrive will just ignore region locks and DRM
  4. Interesting. Doubt there will ever be a ruling there because why would they go after someone just making copies for their own private use. Oh well I'm not worried.
  5. CDs are different entirely because most don't have any form of copyright protection you would need to circumvent But for me personally I see nothing ethically or morally wrong with ripping physical media that I bought and paid, especially considering that we already pay a fee to artists every time we buy a digital device that is theoretically capable of piracy like a USB thumb drive (it's 30ct per sale last I checked) edit: It's called the "Pauschalabgabe" https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pauschalabgabe
  6. It's tricky. German copyright law does allow you to make a Sicherheitsopie (Backup Copy) of your media, but it does not allow you to circumvent copyright protection and extract the unencrypted data. So basically it's still illegal is my understanding.
  7. There are drives that don't even require flashing, they just support LibreDrive out of the box and can be bought brand new like the Verbatim 43888 which is a rebadged Pioneer drive that will also do UHD disks. Source: I have one, bought June 2024 on German Amazon straight from Verbatim. Take note of the exact model number though, there are different drives that look identical. You want the "4k Slimline Blu-ray Writer" with USB-C
  8. Nope unfortunately I didn’t. I used the opportunity to upgrade to a Ryzen 5 3600 which I don’t regret one bit. The performance jump was insane.
  9. This board has no integrated graphics support. If I put both my old 1060 and the new 2060S in it does the same thing I described above. Yes my BIOS is on the newest version but that one is quite old. It does have UEFI support though.
  10. I upgraded from a 1060 6 GB to this new 2060 Super but I'm unable to get past the BIOS splash screen. My specs: * CPU: i7 3770k 4c/8t @ 4.5 GHz * RAM: 4x4 GB (16 GB) Corsair XMS3 @ 1333 MHz * GPU: Palit GTX 1060 6GB Dual Fan @ 2.0 GHz * SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 250 GB SATA 3 * HDD: WD Blue 1 TB SATA 3 * MoBo: Intel Desktop Board DP67BG * PSU: Corsair RM450 450W 80+ Gold Modular * CPU Cooler: BeQuiet! Pure Rock * OS: Windows 10 Pro 1903 x64 I've updated my BIOS to the latest version but it's from 2012 so that didn't help. I've also reset the BIOS and tried various different boot settings, turned UEFI support off and on again, different PCIe settings, etc. I've toggled them all. The problem remains exactly the same: PC starts, beeps once, the on-board code readout stays stuck on "Eb" which as per [the manual](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005500/boards-and-kits.html) stands for "Calling Legacy Option ROMs". There's also a "Option ROMs" LED on the board that blinks constantly very fast. After a couple seconds there's a second beep and that's it. The screen shows the BIOS splash screen with the code 64 on the bottom right (this isn't in the manual). I can't progress from here. System is still responsive and I can Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart it. This is what it looks like: https://i.imgur.com/WUzPksY.jpg https://i.imgur.com/oVJUNpS.jpg I've tried the card in my brother's PC which is a bit older still with some low-end AsRock B65 board and a 3570k, there it works perfectly fine, boots straight into Windows and plays games. There doesn't seem to be a BIOS Update available for the card itself (not sure if that's even a thing anymore). I've also tried the bare minimum setup (CPU, 1 RAM stick, CPU power, 24-pin Motherboard power, GPU, GPU Power, everything else disconnected including rear I/O), didn't help. I'd really like to get this fixed because I really don't want to spend any more money on another board or justify spending another half a grand on a new board/CPU/RAM combo, though it's tempting... Any ideas? Thanks.
  11. The thing I like most about the G3 would definitely be the huge screen with the tiny slim bezels, I already liked the design of the Nexus 5 very much and this seems like the next step to take. Also the back-mounted buttons are interesting but I haven't had a chance to play around with them.
  12. I have Windows 8.1 so no Aero there. Even with no programs opened I still have 176MBs used, which is weird, even if I choose a solid color black background it won't go below 140MBs: http://imgur.com/StQO46e
  13. I temporarily had an AMD Card (5570) while I was waiting for my current GPU (my old 460 broke and I needed a fast replacement so I bought a used 560TI DCU2) I noticed that that thing had only 20MBs used while on the desktop, why is that?
  14. Hey guys, so this really annoys me: Windows and programs are using about 200MBs from my VRAM which means I only have 800MBs left for textures in games and that sucks because I can't play any game on high texture details at FullHD because the VRAM will get full and then it starts to lag. Now I'd like to know if I can somehow control which programs can cache their stuff into my VRAM or if I can tell it to automatically cache into my normal system memory or even better, the page-file. Application-Stuff doesn't need to be loaded as quick as textures in games and since I have an SSD it shouldn't slow anything down if programs load their images and stuff from the SSD Page file instead of the VRAM. I hope a program that let's me do this stuff exists because I want to enjoy high textures and not medium.
  15. Not available for PC unfortunately
