  1. Like, ten feet directly underneath it through a floor. But, if I set both to the same SSID, won't I not be able to choose the primary band?
  2. For some reason, my primary 5.0 GHz wifi band is finicky, and will dropout sometimes, but my 2.4 won't. So I was wondering if there is a way to have computer automatically connect to the 5, and then fall back to the 2.4 if the 5 drops out. Thanks in advance, Houdini111
  3. I'm going to college in the fall, and have 1,225 USD in financial aid grants for the year. I'm not sure on how much to dedicate to a laptop, so I'm aiming at about half that. (I'm going into Computer Science/Software Engineering, so I'll want a computer). I'd be nice if I could do some gaming on it, but that isn't a priority. I'd just be a nice option. I'm not expecting anything great. Even if I have to turn the settings to minimum to be playable. After some searching, I found this one. http://www.walmart.com/msharbor/ip/Dell-Inspiron-15-5000-15-5548-15.6-Touchscreen-Led-Notebook-Intel-Core-I5-I5-5200u-2.20-Ghz-Silver-8-Gb-Ram-1-Tb-Hdd-Intel-Hd-Graphics-5500/43623706 Some pretty good specs. The one review on there is talking about having a defective battery, but that's it. So only the specs to go off of. Then, today, I found these two. http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Satellite-C55-C5241-Laptop-Windows/dp/B010SBAJDS/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R45UGN0/ref=s9_acsd_al_bw_sfg_msftfeat_9_t?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-6&pf_rd_r=1CR74QSNEPC1J41QY4MZ&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=2136370942&pf_rd_i=11758178011 Both seem like good options. Their specs are pretty much identical. For $100 more, the Acer one has wireless AC (I do have a AC Dual Band router) and a Full HD display. However, it doesn't have an optical drive (but I do have a USB reader/writer), and it weighs more. I expect to be carrying to and from campus every day. They are also practically identical in size. So, basically, my choice boils down to, is the FHD and AC worth $100? And, also, if there happens to be something else you'd reccomend for the price of 600 or below, then I'm all ears. I have until around August 22 to decide (that's about the time I can get the money from the grant).
  4. To do that, I'd take out the card, plug into the mobo display. Then boot to bios and disable the CPU GFX. Shut it down. Put in the new card. Put in the display to the card. Right?
  5. First off, we went back and used the old one for now. And it works just fine. We have a 600W PSU, so I don't know why you think the PSU is the issue. This is my mobo. A Pegatron IPISB-CH2 (http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c02854392) Here is the other computer's specs. Mobo: P8Z77-V PRO CPU: i7-3770 PSU:Unknown 1000W
  6. Topic says most of it. I recently bought a R9 270 used. We couldn't use it because our PSU was a 460W, and the card needs a minimum of 500W. So, we finally got the PSU, it's an EVGA 600B (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438014).%C2'> We put in the card and it wouldn't display anything. We thought it might have been DOA, but, to be sure, we gave it to someone else to try on their computer. Come to find out, it works just fine on theirs. I don't know their specs, I'll post it here when I can. The only other problem I can think of is the PCIe slot. I have a PCIe 2 slot, and the card is built for PCIe 3. But, from what I've found online, it should work anyway. Any ideas?
  7. I have had this kindle for quite some time. However, recently I decided that I'l root it. I successfully rooted it, and things were working fine. That is, until it decided to auto-update, removing my root. I just tried to re-root it, and I was "successful" according to the program. The problem came when it booted again. It appeared like a clean. I was okay with that. I could work with that (although it wasn't ideal). Then it connected to my wifi... so it wasn't a clean wipe. It then asked for me to register it, and I did, and then everything else popped up. I thought "Well, that's good". Expect for the fact that nothing works. I tried opening ES File Explorer to see if it was rooted and it wouldn't boot. I held on it, and the options it gave me were as if I had it installed. I tried getting rid of it, and nothing happened. I tried opening the Amazon App Store, it wouldn't even start either. I tried numerous other apps, and none of them worked except for the "Personal Videos", "Office Suite", and other preinstalled one (Calendar and the likes). I'll also note that all my information is definitely on there. A video I had downloaded was able to play from the Personal Videos app. Yet, I can't do anything because none of the apps will open. TLDR I rooted my Kindle Fire and now nothing will open (even the App Store) except for the preinstalled apps. Any help?
  8. Hello. I was helping a friend replace his circle pad when disaster struck, and the plastic part that keeps the ribbon cable in place broke off. We tried and tried to fix it, and we then broke the left shoulder button ribbon cable. We took that apart, and the axis vanished. We now have fixed the circle pad, and have a replacement for the ribbon cable, but we can't find the axis. Does anyone know where to get one? Or what we can use as a placeholder? Thanks in advance, Houdini111
  9. Honestly, I'd rather an uber monster than a (litteral) paperweight. I've had far too much experience with people trying to make devices small, and, thus, killing them.
  10. I have had a Kindle Fire (2) for quite some time now, and have finally decided to take over it. I have successfully rooted it, get rid of the lock screen ads, and installed a custom launcher. However, I can't seem to change the background on the launcher (no matter how many I try) or the lockscreen. I've found many tutorials about changing both, but none work. For changing the lock screen wallpaper, they all lead to /data/data/com.android.settings/files to find a file called "wallpaper". However, my folder is empty (even with "display hidden files" turned on). With ther launcher background changing, no matter what method I use, it doesn't give any errors. All it does is simply not change it. If anyone has any experience with this, I'd love some help. Thanks in advance, Houdini111
  11. Any more suggestion?
  12. It's to put on a wishlist, as I said, so I don't know their budget. I don't care about the storage. I was planning on getting an external drive anyway.
  13. I'm thinking along the lines of a Windows chromebook, if there is something out there like that.
  14. The Vaio Pro 13 is way too expensive. I know it is asking much, but if it could be only a couple hundred USD, that would be preferable.
