  1. 1. I currently have a 128 GB Samsung 830 SSD as my boot drive and a Seagate 2 TB hd to keep files and multimedia. The ssd was chosen because of the reviews and because it was on sale in a big promotion of an online retailer here in Italy. The seagate drive was choosen because... well, because I've always made computers with seagate drives, without any particular reason. I also use a 500 GB WD Green for backups. It's an internal drive, but I'm keeping it into a drawer and plug into a bay only when needed. 2. Twitter share @poluz: https://twitter.com/poluz/status/378857581688541184 3. 4. Thank you. You're right, an SSD would be a great option. A 128 GB Crucial M4 is only 40 € more expensive, and I could easily add more storage for data later. Suggestion accepted! ;)
  5. I'm planning to build a cheap machine (but with good components) to use as a hackintosh for some time and then as a little media pc (maybe with some hardware enhancements). Currently I've chosen these components: Case - Fractal Design Core 1000 - € 32.57 PSU - XFX ProSeries 450W - € 44.00 Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3P - € 76.10 (tonymacx86 approved) CPU - Intel Core i3-3225 - € 124.00 RAM - Kingston Technology KHX1600C9D3B1/4G - € 19.93 Hard disk - Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB (the cheapest 1 TB drive here in Italy) - € 57.70 Dvd combo - LiteOn IHAS120 - € 18.90 Total: € 373.20 (~ 500 USD) What do you think?
  6. My 2 TB Barracuda (ST2000DM001) is very quiet, I must put my ear very close to the case to hear it even during work.
  7. Desktop: Fedora (has always worked flawlessy even with the strangest hardware i.e. netbooks and laptops) Personal server: mainly Debian Servers at work: Ubuntu
  8. My d-link powerline connects almost instantaneously. Do you use static network addresses or DHCP? I had some trouble in the past with very slow DHCP on apple products...
  9. Firefox. There's something indefinite about the Chrome UI that I can't stand.
