  1. Good day, I recently upgraded my PC, but didn't change my motherboard. The Acer "FIH57" (Chipset: Intel DMI Host Bridge Rev. 11, Southbridge: Intel H57 Rev. 06, LPCIO: ITE IT8721), which has the BIOS by American Megatrend with the Version "P01-A3" from the 16th of December 2009. I also bought a SSHD with 4k sectors. Unfortunately, my BIOS doesn't support 4k sectors and when I first tried to install Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit on it I got this error: "Windows Setup could not configure Windows on this computer's hardware". As all the new HDDs have 4k sectors instead of 512bytes, I'm running into issues when I wanna buy a new HDD. I'm not completely sure if my BIOS supports 4k sectors or not, but it sure looks like it doesn't. So how do I make my BIOS support 4k sectors? I can't find any updates for my Bios Version. Thanks for reading in advance. Cheers. PS: I found some Bios updates here, but they don't seem to change anything and I'm kinda scared to update the BIOS on my own. Fortunately my brother in law can help me with that. http://www.acer.com.au/ac/en/AU/content/drivers(Desktop-> Aspire-> Aspire X3900 )
  2. Ah alright. Thank you very much.
  3. Arma 3 , Battlefield 4, Far Cry 3 or 4 (If you haven't played FC3 yet go for it, it's cheaper and the story is better imo), Bioshock Infinite, Skyrim (with visual mods), Metro Last Light, Metro 2033 Redux. Other great games: Xcom Enemy Unknown +Enemy Within DLC, Hotline Miami, Intruder (Pc exclusive), Space Engineers, Red Orchestra 2, Payday 2 and Uplink (if you are into hacking games). As the steam sales are almost there I suggest you to buy one of those games and then stick with it until the steam sales are here. If you don't want to wait, why not use g2a.com? When using the code "FRAGS" in the checkout you get additional 3% off the price. Hope I could help you out. Cheers
  4. Isn't the Mobo not fitting my needs? I thought the "Z" means that it is overclockable and as I won't do that I could save money by buying a cheaper mobo that is not overclockable or invest the money for a "Z"-mobo in a "Non Z"-mobo
  5. Good day, I want to build PC for myself and I have some experience with building pcs already, as I have completely removed all of the components in my and my dad's pc and built them in again. First of all some general information: 1. Budget & Location I am from Germany and I am willing to spend 800€ on the build. Keep in mind that I already bought the graphics card and the power supply, which do not count to those 800€ 2. Aim The system will be used for gaming. Especially games like Arma 3, BF4, Far Cry and Crysis. 3. Monitors I am already running two monitors and it's unacceptable for me to go back to just one. I currently own a Samsung 24'' 16:9 monitor with 2ms reaction time and 60hz and my second monitor (which I only use for writing, reading or showing my spotify playlist, etc. ) is an old Yundai 4:3 monitor, which is still using a VGA . If a cheaper, newer and good looking monitor comes to your mind that is enough for the uses stated above I would very much appreciate it. 4. Peripherals I do not need an OS, nor MS Office, as I already own it. Would you recommend Win 8 over Win 7? I currently own Win 7 64 bit. I do already have a keyboard, headset and a mouse, but as my keyboard is getting a bit old now, I would like to hear your recommendations on a good mechanical keyboard (with additional keys for controling music volume and stopping/playing music and a numpad) 5. Why are you upgrading? I currently own a 4 year old Mini-tower with a ATI Radeon HD 5570 with 1gb GRam and 4gb Ram. It' just not satisfying me and my gaming needs anymore as I can't run my favorite game Arma 3 properly. Additionally the mobo is a Mini-Atx and is using the 1156 socket. I though about a new system for quite some time and this is what I came up with: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/user/BCEGhost/saved/jpTZxr Please keep in mind that I have already bought the PSU and GPU. Btw., I do not want to overclock my system and I am not rendering videos or using photoshop. That's why I am unsure about the i7-4770K and the Z87! Another important aspect for me is noise. I prefer silent components over loud ones, but just up to a price difference to ~20-30 bucks(depends on the component ofc) CPU: i7-4770K ,alternatives: i7-4770, i7-4790, i5-4690, i5-4670 CPU-Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo Mobo: Asus Z87 Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws Xseries 8Gb (2x 4gb) HDD: Toshiba DT01ACA200 2Tb, 7200 RPM SSD: Crucial Mx100 256gb GPU: Gigabyte Gforce Gtx 770 2gb Windforce OC Case: Fractal Design Define R5 in Titanium Grey, I'm not sure about buying a case with window or without (PCPartpicker doesn't include that version of the R5, so you see the R4 in my list) PSU: Be Quiet Straight Power 680W OC: Samsung SH-224DB/RSBS DVD/CD Writer (any recommendations here? I was really unsure about this one) Wlan Adapter: I am using DLan at home, so I don't need one. But as I want to take my PC to Lan-parties i need one and this one is just 15 €) Case-Fans: I'm not sure wether I buy three BitFenix BitFenix BFF-LPRO-14025B-RP 140mm or not. I might do so after I built the system and realize I dont have enough airflow and if I buy a windowed case, the inside look will improve through the blue light. (Any recommendations for good, cheap and silent fans?) Speakers: Bose Companion 2.0 This is the basic stuff. As I already stated above I appreciate any recommendations for a new second monitor or mechanical keyboard, but it doesn't really matter that much. Thanks a lot for reading through my post. Cheers. PS: For the thermal paste I thought of getting the Arctic MX-2 and for a anti-static armwrist this one (http://www.amazon.de/Anti-Statik-Armband-Erdung-Antistatik-Band-Elektrizit%C3%A4t-EMI-Abschirmung/dp/B0090I0FF8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417707709&sr=8-1&keywords=anti+statik+band , sorry for the long link and btw it's a german website)
  6. The Zalman website states: "Supports Solid-State Drive (SSD) Space is provided on the back of M/B plate for installing 2.5" HDD/SSD. the left picture: I hope I could help you matecheers EDIT: There should be a 3-in-1 bracket for installing SSDs it looks like that: (left picture)
  7. why should i downgrade my gtx 770 and my power supply? And I have already bought it and can't send it back as I bought one month ago I also think that the case is way to expensive.... what makes it worth the price? but thanks for the rest mate
  8. Alright. I'm gonna stick with 8 gb RAM then As my i7 is tray, I don't have a cooler... which one is good? I thought about buying this one: EKL Alpenföhn Brocken Tower Cooler CPU: i7-860 (new) CPU-Cooler: default i5-650 cooler, but I want to buy a new one GPU: GTX 770 (new) RAM: 4gb(old pc) + 4gb(not bought yet) Motherboard: I have no idea, which one I have... the only information I have are above in my first post and are called "First Picture". I would buy a new one if I could choose but the ones I found are extremely expensive HDD: 1TB and I want to get another 1TB or 500Gb SDD: I also wanna get a new one Power supply: Be quiet Straight Power 680W Case: I will buy a case, when I am sure which components to buy. I also have no idea, which one to buy, but it shouldnt cost more than 50€ The second HDD and SDD are parts, that aren't that important for me so don't care about them, when you look for components. Thanks in advance William!
  9. Just took out my RAM: I hope that helps Wyvern Abstract Well for 16gb the absolute maximum is 100€. So Corsair products aren't included anymore What I am willing to spend is 600€. The absolute maximum is 700€. The power supply was ~95€, the GPU ~ 265€ and the CPU ~105€ (=465€). So if I'll get a new CPU, I will sell the old one. The primary use of my PC will be Gaming. Especially playing Arma 2,3 . I don't really knonw how much I am willing to spend on the rest of the components. The things I was willing to spend the most were a good GPU, power supply.
  10. I hope you could help me with deciding, if I should by additional 4gb or 16 gb of Ram( I have only 2 free slots left), which RAM I should buy, so 1600mhz or more/less and by which company, if I should try to sell my CPU and buy a new motherboard and a new CPU (which motherboard/CPU would you suggest then?) which CPU cooler fits to my i7-860 and my plans of overclocking, which case I should buy (I am not sure if I have USB 3 on my current motherboard and I highly doubt it and I don't know, which features are essential for a case and I had accidentally bought a case that was too small for my GPU) the rest is basically just stuff that you (might) wanna know
  11. you genius, how could I not think of this... thank you
  12. Good day, I wanted to build a new PC,but not entirely from scratch. I own a ACER Aspire AX3900 (Mini-Tower), which I bought about 3-4 years ago. I want to reuse my HDD, 4gb of RAM, the motherboard, my CD/DVD-Drive and my Cardreader. Well to be honest, I expected all of this to not be that complicated and the most problems I have, have something to do with my old PC, but I will go into detail later. For my new PC, I already bought a -Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 WindForce( http://www.gigabyte.de/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4629#ov ) , which Linus talked about on his youtube channel ( )-Be Quiet Straight Power 680W power supply ( http://www.bequiet.com/de/powersupply/276) -Intel Core i7-860 Socket 1156 CPU. It's not a new product and it's tray (No cooler came with it, so I think that's the right word for it? ) ; ebaylink in german unfortunately (http://www.ebay.de/itm/111379834657?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT) I bought a case and some more RAM aswell, but failed horribly and ended up sending everything back and paying a lot of money for the shipping, money that I as a student don't have... I am really scared of making more mistakes, so I figured I have to ask for professional help. So let's talk about the problems with my old PC. I have no idea, which motherboard and RAM is in there. What I do know is that I have 4 RAM Slots and 2 are being used. And I have 4 gb of DDR3 RAM. What I also know is that my motherboard has the CPU socket 1156 and needs 4 screws for the CPU-Fan I made a picture of two kind of bar code things on my motherboard, which might help me/you find out which motherboard I am using. Unfortunately I can't take a photo of the barcode on my RAM, because it is blocked by my DVD-Drive. First Picture: Shows the barcodes on the motherboard. Second Picture: Shows the inner life of my PC from the right side. A friend of my dad, who is good with PCs, told me which CPU and power supply is good. He will overclock my PC, once he got back from his vacations in 3 months. Because he is on vacation and I can't reach him, he can't help me with the rest of my first build. I hope you could help me with deciding, if I should by additional 4gb or 16 gb of Ram( I have only 2 free slots left), which RAM I should buy, so 1600mhz or more/less and by which company, if I should try to sell my CPU and buy a new motherboard and a new CPU (which motherboard/CPU would you suggest then?) which CPU cooler fits to my i7-860 and my plans of overclocking, which case I should buy (I am not sure if I have USB 3 on my current motherboard and I highly doubt it and I don't know, which features are essential for a case and I had accidentally bought a case that was too small for my GPU) Thank you so much for reading through this novel of tech-info and livestories and thanks for everything you post in advance. Additional information: -current GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5570 -current CPU: Intel Core i5-650 ; 2 physical cores and 4 cores via hyperthreading -my age: I am 18 years old I am sorry for any grammer mistakes I made, I am from Germany and English is not my first language. Please bear with me, I tried my best not to make any stupid mistakes. Thanks for everything in advance. Cheers, Simon
