  1. Thanks to everyone who sent in all the great suggestions. I'm not against going AMD for all you AMD folks out there. I do hear that the Intel will be a little better.
  2. Would the 2 4gig cards be necessary or just better for the future surround gaming?
  3. Im not too concerned with a budget. Im thinking of spending in the $2000 range to get a high performance build. I was also thinking instead of the second SSD getting a 10,000 rpm drive. Any ideas on that. I guess because my current computer runs so bad and so slow I want to gain speed getting into the games instead of listening to everyone play while I am still loading.
  4. Hi everyone, I am planning out my first gaming build and I need your suggestions. I have been watching YouTube, Linus's Channel, NewEgg channel and others trying to decide what parts to buy and how to build it. The actual building doesn't seem that difficult. I am planning on reusing the case and DVD drive I have now and replace the guts completely. This is what I am thinking of..... http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Rick03038/saved/XyhFf7 CPU Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core$234.66 Motherboard MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming ATX LGA1150$124.99 Memory Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600$82.99 Storage A-Data XPG SX900 128GB 2.5" SSD$75.81, Samsung 840 EVO 750GB 2.5" SSD$389.99 Video Card Asus GeForce GTX 760 X2 4GB DirectCU II$599.99 Power Supply EVGA 1000W ATX12V$142.98 Operating System Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit (OEM) (64-bit)$128.98 Total: $1780.39 I am more concerned with performance, especially since it will be strictly a gaming rig. I was think of the 2 SSD's, one for the OS and the other for games. Mostly Battlefield series, Medal of Honor and maybe some Steam stuff. Of course there is the Intel/AMD debate which can go on forever as we all know. Also the i5 vs i7 debates As far as a CPU cooler I have no idea. Water or Air and what brand. The 1000 watt PSU because I am thinking of going SLI someday plus my estimated wattage is 517 watts before a cooler. Also I have never overclocked before and would be a little nervous about it so I'm not sure if I should spend the extra money on an unlocked CPU or not. It seems pretty easy for what I see online. I figure I had this one built in 2009 and cost me $2700 and now it can't get out of its own way. I'm not planning on the build for another few months until I get more information ( and money ), but I want something that will last me awhile.. Sorry for the long posting and thanking everyone on advance for their help, knowledge and suggestions, Rick the newbie computer killer... I mean builder
  5. Thank you a Dragoon, I never knew that. Still sounds line I need a couple of heavy duty cards.
  6. I thought I couldn't use 2 different video cards at the same time. Can I use a 2 gig card and say a 3 or 4 gig card at once as long as they are not connected in SLI? I would love to set up surround gaming monitors.
  7. That's what I figured but I thought I would check with you all first. And when I rebuild I am thinking of picking up another 660 TI and using them in an SLI configuration with the i5 4670K. I'll probably need a bigger power supply for the SLI and a liquid cooler. I am planning to reuse my old case, one of my hard drives, put in a SSD and put on a new operating system. People are telling me to use Windows 7 64-bit professional rather than Windows 8. What is the general consensus on that? I really just want to play Battlefield 4 with no problems...lol. Thank you again everyone before you have suggestions and help. It is very much appreciated!!
  8. CPU fan running at 2058rpm Power fan 229 rpm
  9. I am running speed fan. The cpu is currently running at 44 - 48C GPU 37C System 35C Solid I run it until it fails?
  10. Mobo - Asus P5E Intel X38 chipset Made on 1/24/2008 CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400@3ghz Ram - DDR2 4 gig Corsair PC2-6400 400 MHz Video card - Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 Ti I forgot I had CPU - Z installed.
  11. I'll have to hook it back up and I'll get the correct specs
  12. Like I said it's an old system.... 4 gig of ram Intel Dual core 3 ghz Asus ... I think it's a P5a Windows Vista home Premium Coolmax Power Supply I know I burnt out the video card because of never blowing the dust out of it. When it died I pulled the card and blew out something larger than the usual dust bunny.... More like a dust pig....lol.
  13. First off hi everyone, I am the ultimate noob when it comes to computers and I have what some of you might think is a stupid question but I just don't know what is causing it. My computer was built for me 5 years ago for gaming. My original video card burnt out and I replaced it with an evga 660ti. Not long ago it began restarting after being on for about 30 minutes. I think it is ths power supply which is 600 watts. I plan on building my next computer but until then I want to get this one up running. Is there a way to test the power supply or should I just replace it and see if that takes care of the problem? Also..... Since I am still in debate between an Intel and AMD decision, can I use the 660ti card with an AMD processor? I pretty sure I can but just need to ask. Thanks everyone for your help and dealing with my stupid questions, Rick
