  1. so my laptops dvd drive was playing up today (its fixed for now) but i decided to look at how much a new one would cost so i went onto the UK version of pcpartpicker because i find it a decent starting point for most computer parts and was given a single unit with a price of £110 looking directly on different websites i found overclockers only does DVD not blu ray amazon only wants to sell me external drives and everywhere else i can think of are either £90+ or non existent (other than a website called pcupgrade but i have never heard of it before ever so i'm not going to touch that one) does anyone know where i can find a blu ray drive for my laptop incase this one conks out on me? (its not the super slimline type) or failing that does anyone know how i might go about getting/making a system to play blu rays over a network? laptops these days seem to be dropping optical drives like they are going out of fashion (apparently they are it would seem) and i am going to need a new laptop i just really don't want to have to deal with a wired USB dvd drive (i will occasionally watch a film in bed if i catch the cable at all i could (and actually have in the past) fuck my discs up and i would rather not have to deal with that) i have attempted this in the past but i could not get it to work (i could see the files on the dvd but neither VLC or power DVD could play them)
  2. so local computer shop can do me an atheros AR 9287 for £15 to me that kinda seems a bit cheap is it any good or what? edit: ok turns out its not a dual band thingy
  3. would any wifi card work? i'm not 100% clued up on laptop wifi so if you could reccomend something on UK amazon edit: from what i can tell its a half size mini pci-e wifi card the laptop has slots for msata but not M.2 sata
  4. no this was like... £1200 or something its a clevo p170sm-a (i7 4710HQ GTX 970m 6GB) wireless is an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 i have had it about two or thee years now but i would not expect the wireless adaptor to be shitting itself already (although it is on 24-7 almost i have had to replace the CPU fan about twice now due to the bearings going)
  5. is the internal wifi thingy fucked or something? i have no idea what additional information to add occasionally it will say its connected but theres no internet (but every other device on the network is perfectly ok) somtimes disconnecting and re-connecting solves this but sometimes disconnecting causes the laptop to be unable to see any wifi network at all for quite some time (disabling and re-enabling the adaptor seems to make this happen faster) edit: might help if i add these wireless is an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 operating system is windows 10
  6. so quick update to this according to someone on the archeage forums "No, the game client lags the fuck out of the windows GDI subsystems during startup." also other games have been doing it as well like SWTOR a game i started playing again yesterday
  7. yeah my sennheiser GSX1000 is based on a c-media thing thing is neither C-media or sennheiser have drivers that could fix it (apparently whats being used here is something that actually comes with windows)
  8. so my computer crashed today and this is what whocrashed had to say about it On Mon 04/12/2017 19:17:33 your computer crashed crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\120417-7281-01.dmp This was probably caused by the following module: cmusbdac.sys (CMUSBDAC+0x387047) Bugcheck code: 0x1000007E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFF80BCE4C7047, 0xFFFFA8003122E8E8, 0xFFFFA8003122E130) Error: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\cmusbdac.sys product: C-MEDIA CMUSBDAC Audio company: C-MEDIA description: C-MEDIA CMUSBDAC Audio Driver Bug check description: This indicates that a system thread generated an exception which the error handler did not catch. This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem. A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: cmusbdac.sys (C-MEDIA CMUSBDAC Audio Driver, C-MEDIA). 9. wait i'm pretty sure i have always known sandi was his wife its been a secret?
  10. oh shit they're on to me sorry i meant i am totally a human no robots here beep boop
  11. i log in via steam i don't remember being asked to make a username and i cannot find a way to change it and i'm guessing that the few topics i start are overlooked because people think its some kind of spambot (the numbers what do they mean?)
  12. well i quickly plugged in the missing 4pin EPS connector and that did not fix the problem i have had someone on the forums say "the game client lags the fuck out of the windows GDI subsystems during startup. " and goes on to say his system does it for about a second or two on start up as my old desktop and my laptop (i7 5930K with furyX and i7 4710HQ with GTX 970m) do not display this behaviour and idea why this one would be doing this?
  13. temps are not too bad really (its a water cooler a big one at that) a bit higher than i would like (coming from a 5930K) but i would put that up to intels toothpaste inside and the 4 extra cores (i'm going to be putting better fans on it myself at some point)
  14. unfortunately this computer was built by some company the insurance people wanted to build it (old computer blew up you see) and they did not want me to build it myself for some reason and guess what? along side the GPU using a daisy chained connector (i fixed this as soon as i saw it) the CPU radiator fans in a PULL ONLY config the second 4pin EPS power connector IS NOT CONNECTED i will sort that tomorrow and see if that fixes it
  15. so i first noticed it when playing archeage i would click launch and my computer would slow to a craw for a few seconds (if i move the mouse it would stutter across the screen anything else would just stop moving if i don't move the mouse things like youtube videos would update once every few seconds) and then go back to normal it also did the same thing when rainbow six siege was first launching and was detecting my hardware config it also does it when launching cossacks 3 it has done this across two installs of windows 10 my specs are as follows Intel core i9 7900X AMD Vega 64 LE 32GB DDR4 3200MHz (corsair vengeance RGB) windows is installed on a samsung 960 pro M.2 SSD (there is no correlation between the drive something is installed on and it doing weird shit) (also does anyone know why my username is just numbers and stuff? i used steam to login and i cannot set a username)
