  1. Rig name: The Beast Cpu: Intel I5 2500K @ 4.4Ghz Gpu: GTX 970 + GTX560ti (I occasionally use cuda [in blender] so can utilise both) Ram: 8GB Corsair XMS3 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 1.65v Score: 6.8
  2. I think all computers should have SSD's since it makes them so much more pleasant to use. The difference isn't apparent when its there, but when you have to load up visual studio on a computer without one it makes you want to tear your eyes out.
  3. My understanding is that a backdoor in this context is a purposeful weakness in a system that a government can exploit in order to gain access to something. What they mentioned there is as far as I can tell them stating that there will be a process where they can ask for access to be granted, which I can only presume would be done by just handing the data over. But i would agree that it is fairly vague in that part and presumptions don't mean much, since it could be interpreted in many different ways. Giving data to the government on request and leaving security holes in systems to allow access at any time are slightly different as far as I am aware.
  4. they debated it, for 3 hours. The whole thing is available on video (or in text transcribed) here: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/114003#debate-threshold
  5. The UK government has responded to a petition titled: "Government to abandon all ideas of trying to ban strong encryption". Hopefully this response is accurate as to what their intentions actually are as it seems pretty reasonable. In the UK any petition on the .gov website that reaches 10,000 signatures has to receive an official and timely response from the Government. Any petition with over 100,000 signatures has to be considered for debate in parliament. This one reached over 10,000 signatures so has received an official response. This is the response that they gave in full: Source: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/106369
  6. This looks interesting, could be a really neat living room PC for gaming with flatmates.
  7. The keyboard is my favorite because of its minimalist industrial design. The mouse mat looks pretty sweet too though.
  8. If it works as well as they say it does selective focus could be pretty neat.
  9. Or even better Encrypted non-networked storage. Then just plug it into whatever machine you need when you need it. Dropbox is really good for file sharing and file hosting. I wouldn't suggest that anyone uses it (or any cloud storage) for anything they value as being private. Cloud storage getting compromised isn't exactly rare. NAS storage getting compromised is also very possible, how easy it is to compromise depends how you set it up. But if something is connected to the internet in any way then it can be compromised. With most setups if one computer on your network gets a virus it could access the NAS.
  10. Yeah, that's my mistake for using the terminology interchangeably. Will change now.
  11. It makes little to no difference. The NSA have shown with Microsoft that even if your data is in Ireland they still seem to think that they have the rights to access it. Many people are suggesting that this is Dropbox trying to dodge taxes. I guess it also has the benefit of looking good from a security point of view even if it makes very little difference. I only use dropbox for file sharing, so the only files that end up there are the ones that are public anyway. If i really want something to be stored securely i will write it on paper not a computer. Then i use local storage for everything else since i like to own my own files and have control of them.
  12. Here is the page for the change in terms of service: https://www.dropbox.com/help/9063
  13. If you live outside of North America DropBox will be serving you from Ireland. I can only assume this is for security reasons and to help ensure that business customers outside of North America feel more secure. Source: DropBox email
  14. For my desktop i prefer my full size keyboard since i use the numberpad in productivity software such as blender. But on my tablet a smaller form factor keyboard would be super ideal since i do quite a bit of typing on it and the windows touch screen keyboard is not so hot. So it really depends on what i am doing.
  15. Here is the email that they have sent out: I dont monetize so its not something that bothers me as a "creator". Its nice to know that their revenue has increased by 200%, YouTubers have been telling a very different story about their own profits recently
