  1. Could you link me to where you found that price? EDIT: The only ones I can find that cheap have the i5, rather than an i7, and drop to 8gb RAM rather than 16gb If the games listed don't need a dGPU then I probably don't, I have my gaming rig at home for anything bigger I want to play. I was really unsure on what Integrated Intel HD Graphics could run, the last prebuilt system I bought was back in 2009 and at the time people were pretty adamant that unless it was a browser flash game, I was going to need a dGPU.
  2. Probably don't need a convertible/tablet but I like the idea. It's been 5 years, but last time I was at Uni, I had a gaming laptop an Alienware 15" model, and a tablet. The laptop was nice but really heavy. So only took it when I knew I was going to be in the library for hours to type up assignments etc. The tablet I used on more Lecture/Class intensive days as it was light and you barely notice it in a backpack. It was super helpful because all the coursework was provided before class in Powerpoint of PDF forms, and the tablet (Samsung Note? I dunno, has a S-Pen in it) allowed me to easily follow along and just annotate with the pen when the lecture said anything useful. Seeing as Ultrabooks/Tablets - can be the same tool now, seems worthwhile. So I can get both functions out of the one device.
  3. Does anyone have any experience with this laptop? Would you recommend it? I'm looking for something small and portable for Uni, for the next 1-5 years. (Big window I know) Primary use will be rather basic, lecture notes, basic presentations, looking up research articles etc, for purely academic purposes I'm aware I could buy something cheaper and it would do the job fine. However, I'm assuming like most people here would If I'm going to buy something I may as well spend a bit extra and make it worthwhile as a basic 2nd machine, capable of light gaming (Minecraft, LoL) to break up longer studying sessions, and fast enough, that it's not painful to use after using my desktop (eg/ like the tablet I bought ?8 years ago, that feels like it takes minutes to open its own files let alone external ones) . I'm yet to go look at the Asus ZenBook Flip in person, but online it sounds decent to me, and reviews aren't overly negative. ZenBook Flip - this is the cheapest I've been able to find it, after a quick search ($2,099 AUD) - being in Australia everything is always heaps pricer than practically everywhere else I've looked at the following; Lenovo Yoga 920 - Nice looking, not a fan of the keyboard, feels oddly spaced out to me (4k model $2799, 1080 display $2199 - both i7-8550U, 16gb RAM. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620) Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 - I liked this, but its a higher price, runs on an i7-7Y75, 16gb RAM, Integrated Intel HD Graphics 615 (normally $2,799 currently on sale for $2,199) HP x360 Envy - seems heavily overpriced in Aus, customization options from the US also not available (Ryzen 5 2500U, 8gb RAM model is $1,799) Microsoft Surface Book 2 - Looks and feels nice, extra overkill, huge price tag $3419.10 (i7-8650U, 16gb RAM, GeForce GTX 1050) I still have a few months to make my purchase, so can keep shopping around, these have either been recommended or had good reviews so I went and took a look
  4. Thoughts on ASUS Zenbook Flip UX461UN?
  5. I'm currently in the market for something light and portable for back to Uni. It will mostly be for note taking and looking up research papers etc. However, I would like it to at least run Minecraft or LoL, just to pass 20 mins to break the monotony of studying. A lot of the things I've looked at have Intel HD Graphics 620, but I can get NVIDIA GeForce MX130 or even a GTX 1050 (in one option). So do I need dedicated graphics for the 2 games listed? Or will integrated graphics cover it?
  6. Do you know when the next series is coming? I'm also in the market, but can probably postpone a purchase until February if there's going to be a price shift, or better stuff out.
  7. It looks like it's not at the top of your list as much anymore, but if you end up looking at the Huawei MateBook X Pro, shop around and check delivery prices, it's not sold here so you'll need to get it shipped to Australia, and while people do it, it tends to cost anywhere up to 40% of the price of the electronic you're purchasing in the first place. Seeing as you asked about the 2 in 1 version of the XPS, you could look at Lenovo Thinkpads, I know the L380 Yoga, has an inbuilt SD card reader, and a 360-degree hinge, so can be either a laptop or tablet, depending on your needs
  8. I think I like the pro more, but I'll look at both Awesome, I'll give them a look as well, I was underprepared for how many options there would be
  9. Probably Minecraft I'll give it a look, though I do like the idea of a 2 in 1, for touchscreen, to write notes on lecture slides etc (I learn and memorize things better if I write them down) EDIT: just got around to watching the attached video. Didn't realize this machine had the 360-degree hinge, I'll add it to my list
  10. My workplace is sending me back to University next year to commence a Masters Degree. So figure it's time to treat myself to a new Tablet/Laptop so I can take notes, work in the library etc, along with at home. I haven't purchased a portable device since I started my Undergrad, 9 or so years ago and due to age, they're excruciatingly slow now. Ultimately I need a device for note taking, looking up studies, completing assignments etc. However, I know myself and even though I have a nice gaming rig at home, I'll end up using this for watching Movies and playing basic games at times. I'd like to only buy the one device to get me through the whole course which is 3-4 years, depending on if I do a thesis or coursework for the final part. Plus I've heard deferring for a year is rather common due to the stress of working and studying the course at the same time. So I'm looking higher end, so hopefully will still be functioning in 4-5 years. I'm in Australia, and the price isn't a concern (I don't need the device until late February, early March), I'm thinking a 13" device for portability and weight, though I've never tried one, I feel like a 15" tablet would just be massive From spending an hour browsing, the 3 devices that keep coming up are; Mircosoft Surface Pro 2, Dell XPS 13 and Lenovo Yoga 920. Does anyone have experience with any of these and recommend one? Should I be looking elsewhere? Is there upcoming devices that will be released by February I should wait for? Thanks for any advice
  11. Im in Australia, we released it at midnight, which is around 17 hours before the US gets to midnight
  12. if youre not a massive Zelda fan, waiting isnt a bad idea, but Its a great console from first impressions. Im pumped for Mario Odessy and Skyrim too though
  13. Ive turned it on and off a few times, doesnt change anything, unless its just going to sleep?
  14. I recently built what was supposed to be a NAS for Plex. Hardware wasn't an issue, but software was something new for me. Ive used FreeNAS as the OS, and attempted to install Plex from there. I mostly followed YouTube tutorials and the such, and it's all worked except the last step. I can open and see my files on the NAS, and the Plex server appears to be running and accessible from my devices. However, Plex can't see the files on the NAS so I can't add them to libraries. Any ideas as to why this is happening and how I can fix it? Thanks
  15. I bought the Nintendo Switch on release, and so far so good, other than an issue I'm having with output to TV My Switch will only output to TV if I set the display to be 720p or 480p, the Automatic Resolution and 1080p options just give me the screen that I'd see if the Switch wasn't turned on. I have a Samsung Smart TV, 55" with 4k/UHD so 1080p isn't an issue from the TV's end. Is it possible for the HDMI cord to cause this issue? I'm not using the Nintendo one as the cords run through the wall and the Nintendo one isn't long enough to do so. The current cord is rather old and rather cheap. Or would it be a fault in the switch/dock?
