  1. Fair enough... I was expecting a cooler card considering the beefier/better cooler. Mine goes up to 75ºC, a little noisy too. Is the current OC I have any good? If so, I can just look into swapping the fans...
  2. Thanks to everyone! You're totally right. I don't think I even fully use the RTX 3070 and i'm quite happy with its performance. In that case, would shelling out $100USD more for the STRIX 3070 make any sense? I think i'll end up buying another GPU anyways so my friend can get my 3070 (and 3060s are just $100 less than the 3070, so we would rather go for the 3070). In my mind, the better cooler might be worth it just for the sake of having a quieter card.
  3. Hello lovely community. Long time lurker here. Recently (~3 months ago) I was able to snag an Asus Dual RTX 3070 for $650, brand new. Since my old GTX 1080 died 4 months ago, I had no option but go for the 3070. So far so good, card is great, thermals are ok/mediocre. Decent overclocker (2020 Core @0.975mV, +1000MHz mem) despite the compact cooler. However, i'll have a chance to snag an Asus TUF 3080 for $1050USD this week (brand new too). This would allow me to upgrade my 3070 for that by only splurging ~$350 more. I would sell the 3070 to a close friend for the same money I paid for it. My question is: is it even worth it thinking about doing that? While I game at 1080p, my monitor goes up to 280Hz and I think my system could drive the 3080: 10900k (mediocre 5GHz all-core oc, 4.7GHz uncore) 16GB RAM (4400Mhz) 850W Thermaltake GF1 PSU I could also get an Asus STRIX 3070 for $770USD. That would mean paying $120USD for a better cooler/PCB and staying with a 3070. Tips/thoughts? Thanks in advance!

  5. Hello lovely community. After my GPU died (GTX 1080) I've been on the hunt for a new one. I now have 2 options: - RTX 3070 (ASUS TUF and Strix) - RTX 3080 (ASUS TUF) 3080 would cost me $300 more than the 3070. My current system is this: 10900k @5GHz all core, 4.7GHz cache 16GB 4400MHz memory 850w PSU VG279QM (1080p, IPS, 280Hz monitor) I'm no 'pro-gamer' but I truly prefer higher framerates/more fluid motion than higher resolutions. Despite having a 27" 1080p, which a lot of people would hate or ignore, I just keep a little more distance from the monitor and still enjoy it, the smoothness of high refresh rate and high FPS really kills it for me. I'm thinking about those 2 GPU's, in theory, the 3080 is 'overkill' since it is intended for 4K. I've heard people saying that at 1080p any CPU would bottleneck the 3080. While I don't have the best CPU, the 10900k still kicks some punch, I hope its mild 5GHz overclock could help with that. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  6. Hello. 3 weeks ago my gpu (GTX 1080) decided to die. No 'easy' fix besides re-flowing/throwing a shit-ton of heat hoping it fixes something. I'm not in the US, currently a local retail supplier is selling a Gigabyte RTX 3070 for $1300. Brand new, warranty and all that stuff. A friend helped me and allowed me to use his spare GTX 750Ti in the meantime, he was not willing to sell it and said 'use it while you find a replacement'. No friends have spare GPU's to sell, those who do, want inflated prices ($1200 for an RTX2070s). Since this scalping/low stock stuff is here to stay for at least 1-2 years, i'm wondering how stupid would paying $1300 for a brand-new RTX 3070 would be. I can afford it, would take a chunk out of my savings and I never thought I would spend full-system money on a single GPU. Any thoughts? Thanks
  7. Re-uploaded the video because I used a shitty format before. Hmm the underclock/overvoltage would need the driver to work right? Currently I'm not able to modify anything in afterburner, device manager fails to correctly start/detect the 1080 (with the Code 43). Since this thing is also artifacting in the BIOS I agree with you, it is quite dead, but why? I gave a friend an old GTX 970, has an overvolt/oc/bios mod I made and it's been running since Maxwell launched without any issues. Temp-wise i'm not stressing the silicon that much, components aren't that shitty. Bad luck? The Core BGA just gave up? I'll try the heatgun, in theory that should keep other stuff cool so I don't end up de-soldering SMD stuff that I need or melting caps, right? However, i'm afraid that this re-flow/re-work might just break something else. I know GPU's have short-protection, but why if I introduce a short by re-flowing the solder and end up killing the PCI-E controller?
  8. Hello lovely community. I was playing CoD Cold War and it kept crashing, saying there might be an issue with the GPU drivers. Since I was messing around with some mild OC, I kept modifying it to test its stability. I reverted to stock settings and the game kept crashing, I did a 'repair and scan' in Battle Net and re-launched the game. Black screen, fans spin extremely fast. I press the power button, after a while the computer turns off correctly. Re-boot, no video output. I check the monitor, 640x480@30Hz on all 3 DP outputs, only HDMI is 'alive'. BIOS takes a while to post, the BIOS POST LED stays for 10-15 seconds on VGA, which indicates that it is taking a while to do the handshake/recognize the GPU. I can boot into Windows without any problem, but the GPU shows Error Code 43 in device manager. There are artifacts, even in the BIOS. These artifacts also show on Windows after booting (see attached). With the artifacts, I re-flashed the VBIOS to the stock one. No success. Tested the GPU in another PC, couldn't even post. I tried another GPU on my PC (750Ti) and that works without any issues. I can game with the 750Ti, which suggests the PCI-E slot/CPU/mobo aren't dead yet. Here are my specs: i9 10900k Aorus Elite AC Z490 Viper 16GB 4400MHz Zotac AMP 1080 Thermaltake ToughPower GF1 850w Windows 10 Pro I've never overvolted/flashed a custom BIOS. All it had was a mild undervolt/slight overclock, always tested with a bench to check stability. Temps, afaik never went above 75ºC. I never saw artifacts in-game beside some BIOS artifacts (that look very similar to the ones in the video). The BIOS splashcreen would appear for 1-2 seconds and small lines/artifacts would show before booting into Windows, I never saw anything like that inside the OS, so I never thought it was something serious. Getting into the BIOS used to be normal too. Re-seating it had no success. I've also re-pasted it, just in case (even though I did a repaste 4 months ago) and no success. I don't see any blown cap, burnt mosfet or anything that suggests severe damage. Is there anything I can do? Is this just dead? This is literally the worst time to buy another GPU. I don't want to splurge $1400 for an RTX 3070, or ~800 for a used 2070s. People here are asking $500 for an used GTX 1080, $100 more than what I paid for a brand new one back then. Sadly I don't have any warranty left. While I do know my way around electronics (i'm an electronics engineer), I do know that the oven trick might end up harming the electrolytic caps and that there could be a serious issue happening down there. I have to heat it way avobe 120ºC for the solder to melt and I could also de-solder SMD stuff. I don't have the tools/parts to re-seat/re-cap the GPU. I don't have any other idea to test or try in order to save the GPU. I just want it to ride this crazy wave so I can buy a new GPU at a reasonable price. Any tips? Thanks PXL_20210430_235440860.mp4
  9. Hello community, I recently built a 10900K system: - Aourus Elite AC - 16GB 4400MHz - Thermaltake Toughpower 850w PSU - Noctua NH-D15s Mobo should be decent and PSU power is plenty. Cooling is on the "meh" side but enough to prevent throttling. I dialed in a fixed 1.3V Vcore with medium LLC. This gets an effective VR VOUT (actual die voltage) of ~1.21, a droopy voltage to prevent transients. I downloaded both porteus and Ubuntu with Linpack on it. Tested 8GB problem size, 20 runs at 5GHz-all core. Both Ubuntu and porteus came clean, same residuals. But if I try the same OC and Linpack settings in Windows, the residuals differ, which indicates an unstable OC (and less GFlops in the results too). I only get somehow similar residuals if I up the voltage way over what the NH-D15 is capable and the chip gets toasy (high 90's, throttles) What's the right number here, who should I trust? Thanks.
  10. Hello lovely community. I've been rocking my rig for over 6 years now, a humble i5 4570, 16GB of slow DDR3 memory and an awfully cpu-bottlenecked GTX 1080. Since i've been saving some bucks and already have a "decent" gpu with "decent" peripherals (mech keyboard, good mouse and 144Hz 1080p monitor) I decided to upgrade my PC to something new excluding the GPU. Hunting for parts I ended up with - i9 10900k - Z490 Aorus Elite - 4400Mhz 16GB RAM - NH-D15s, some Noctua Fans I like this "buy now, worry in 5-6 years" mindset. That's why I considered the 10-core 10900k, while overkill for my needs (mostly gaming), I thought it should be good and enough for years to come. However, i'm getting some sort of buyers remorse. Do you guys think I should sell it and get something more "budget-conscious"? I still have the CPU brand-new, unopened since i'm waiting for my desk and UPS to arrive. AMD Ryzen sounds like the obvious choice, but keep in mind that where I live the pricing is weird. 10900k costed me the same as an 3900x ($540 usd). Zen 3 sounds existing but might have to wait around 5-6 months for it to get here, we don't even have 4000-series laptops here yet. Thanks in advance.
  11. Nope, I was just guessing it was a nice "upgrade" to later sell my kit with a more attractive mobo. The MCE seems like a nice bonus, afaik Asus boards oficially support it. I don't know if audio card/lan card is even better than my current mobo.

  13. Thanks. What about multicore enhacement? I read that ASUS boards have that feature that forces the CPU to boost al cores to turbo. Considering that I will get a very small "OC", like 200Mhz, is it worth it to pay $25 bucks for this motherboard?
  14. Hmmm sure I can BCLK OC the 4570? That sounds really interesting since I have a "decent" cooler (212 EVO) to cool the CPU and a good enough PSU (Cooler Master VSM 550w). Can I achieve 3.6Ghz or more with it?
