  1. My desktop is getting significantly worse internet speeds than my laptop in the same area of the house(next to each other on my desk). My laptop is getting 40-60Mbps download and 1-10Mbps upload with googles speed test and 40-70Mbps download and 3-15Mbps upload on speedtest.net. While my desktop is getting 5-10Mbps download and 1-5Mbps upload with google speed test and 5-15Mbps download and 1-5Mbps upload on speedtest.net. It says it's connected and the wifi icon has 2-4 bars but it's just so slow it barley works. My desktop has a Asrock B550M-ITX/AC motherboard which has an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168 card, my laptop has an Intel Wireless AC-9560. The motherboard isn't old I just upgraded my system in Oct 2020. The connection was never great but it's gotten a lot worse in the last couple months. I've tried a lot of the things that worked for other people posting on various forums like clean installing new drivers in cmd changing the netsh interface tcp windows auto-tuning between disabled/normal changing the wireless mode from 802.11ac to 802.11n some other stuff I don't remember disabling and then re-enabling the wifi driver in Network Connections has had the best impact so far, after turning it off and on I'm getting ~20Mbps down on speedtest.net now. However after restarting my computer it's back down to 5Mbps down I was wondering if there's more software things I should try or is it likely that I need to RMA or swap out the wifi card for a new one myself? Is the card in my laptop better?, but even if it's better I would think the one in my desktop shouldn't be this horrible. Thanks in advance to anyone that thinks they can help.
  2. yeah I have a hdd that I think still has Windows 7 on it and the boot ssd has the Win 10
  3. I think I'll end up doing a clean install and then copy everything else over
  4. So I finally upgraded my cpu and motherboard and got an NVME ssd. I wanted to clone my 256gb boot ssd to the new 1tb NVME so I can swap the 256gb for another 1tb ssd in the future. I used Macrium Reflect and it seemed to work fine, all the same files were showing up on the new drive but it won't boot when I change the boot order in the bios. It will start booting and get past the motherboard logo and the windows logo but after that the screen goes dark and nothing else happens. One time it came up with a screen about troubleshooting windows not saving properly. I tried updating the bios but that didn't help, not sure what else I should try. Should I try out a paid cloning software like Acronis? The motherboard supports NVME boot drives and supports this NVME ssd so I don't assume it's an issue with the ssd but I still have time to return it and get a different one if that's a good idea. AMD Ryzen 5 3600, Asrock B550M-ITX/AC, Samsung 860 QVO 250GB (Old boot drive), WD Blue SN550 1TB (New boot drive)
  5. I would like to stick as close to $1500 as I can, I'll be using Blender, Meshroom, maybe Maya, Krita, and yeah I'll be using a drawing tablet.
  6. I need a laptop for homework that'll consist of 3D modeling, rendering, digital painting, and I would like to do some photo scanning with meshroom this summer while I'm away from my desktop. I would like to stay close to $1500 and it would be great to have good color accuracy. The Dell XPS 15 for $1,400 has great color accuracy but only a 1050ti. I like the idea of getting the MSI GS65 that also has great color accuracy as well as a better gpu for faster rendering but it's closer to $1,800. I did find a refurbished or as amazon calls it (renewed) GS65 for $1,400 but I'm not sure how safe that is to get(also doesn't have much storage, does it have a spot for a seccond ssd?). Someone suggested the Cyberpower Tracer III TSVR2200 but I couldn't find info on color accuracy of its monitor. They also suggested the Lenovo Legion y540/740(also costco has a y545 with a 1660ti that's I think supposed to be in the middle of those but I can't find any reviews or info on color accuracy of the screen), which have alright color accuracy and might be a good mid ground of faster gpu and color accuracy. I'm really not sure what to pick, what do you guys think about the dell XPS 15 vs something with a better gpu? Is it safe or a bad idea to get a renewed GS65? What do you think about these laptops and do you have any other suggestions?
  7. Yeah from the US and I was hoping to spend $1,000-$1,300. Just need something to use during summers while I don't have my desktop. Decent battery life is always nice but I'll usually be close to an outlet so not a huge worry. And something on the lighter side would be nice so it's easier to take places but I'm not worried about trying to find some really light slim laptop.
  8. I'm looking for a new laptop to game a bit and also do 3d modeling, sculpting, and rendering stuff. I'm considering 2 that are basically the same except for the gpu and cpu. The slightly cheaper option has a Ryzen 7 R7-3750h and gtx 1660 ti and the other that's $100 more has an i7 8750h and gtx 1060. Is the better cpu worth a bit of a worse gpu? Also if you have better laptop suggestions feel free to drop them R7 3750h + GTX 1660 TI https://www.newegg.com/gold-steel-asus-tuf-gaming-tuf505du-eb74-gaming-entertainment/p/N82E16834235196?Description=ASUS TUF Gaming Laptop&cm_re=ASUS_TUF_Gaming_Laptop-_-34-235-196-_-Product i7-8750h + GTX 1060 https://www.newegg.com/metal-asus-tuf-gaming-fx504gm-es74-gaming-entertainment/p/N82E16834235064?Description=ASUS TUF Gaming Laptop&cm_re=ASUS_TUF_Gaming_Laptop-_-34-235-064-_-Product&Item=9SIAEYJ8ZZ0741
  9. I got a Samsung Notebook 9 Pro (I think 2018 model) a bit ago for school so I could draw on the screen. Sadly the Wacom Bamboo feel that would have been compatible with it is discontinued so I don't have many options for a bigger pen than the tiny one included. Right now my best option I'm aware of is getting a Samsung Tab 3 or 4 pen to use. QUESTION: Does anyone know if the larger pen that comes with the new 2019 model that hasn't come out yet will be compatible with the older models or should I get one of the Tab pens?
  10. Made a pun shirt/hoodie with teespring if anyone likes puns. Made the graphic in google docs so it's not the best, but I'm gonna buy one and only need 3 to print. https://teespring.com/salty-pun
  11. So for anyone interested in getting a raspberry pi you can get a raspberry pi 2 b plus a media kit for $60 on massdrop and a $30 add on 3.2" touch display https://www.massdrop.com/buy/seeed-raspberry-pi-b-1gb-media-kit?referer=CPSK6Q&mode=guest_open&utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Tech%20A%20Product%20Announcement%202015-10-08&utm_term=Community%20-%20Tech%20-%20MAU%20%28Active%29
  12. You should show a few of your favs that didn't make it into the winning ten during the WAN show
  13. It's working now, I just had to turn it off and unplug the psu. thanks
  14. It hasn't turned off yet running like this but there isn't a video signal from the mobo so I'm guessing you're right and it's a dead mobo. Thanks
