  1. It is absolutely possible to start with C#. You can code something very simple to something very complicated with it. Just because it is powerful doesn't mean you can't do the easy stuff. I once tried to find an intermediate level C# reference book to further increase my skills, but I bought a wrong one. It's a total beginner book. Beginner as in new to programming, not new to C#. It was "Learning C# 3.0" published by O'Reilly. So don't be intimidated by C#. You can even start with a simple console application and test out a few function at a time, nothing complicated. You do not master just one programming language, you master the art of learning new languages as you need it.
  2. Hahahaha. I'm still at work, just granted db access for the new DBA and I still have a logic error in my stored procedure to fix.. and I'm slacking off here. (it eases my mind so I can be productive later *excuses*)
  3. Free time? What free time? *whimpers*
  4. Passion and logic thinking is much more important than language. Programming language comes and go, if not, they get updated over the years. You're learning now, 10 years later you'll still be learning. 30 years later you'd probably still be learning (hopefully teaching younger generations to code.. maybe?). I started with C. It helps cover the basics and build a foundation. I'm now coding C# but I'm mostly doing data modeling and database optimization. Nothing to do with games though...
  5. NEC PowerMate. Spec as I remembered it: - Pentium 133Mhz - 16MB EDO ram (upgraded to 48 later on) - 1.5GB Western Digital HDD - 8x CD-ROM drive, Floopy drive - Not sure about the graphic, but everything seems to go into this expansion card using and ISA slot. - Had to buy an external 33.6/56k modem that goes in the serial port. - Windows 95 - 15" CRT monitor Good memories: - Installed Fallout/Fallout 2, minimum 1MB installation and load everything off the disc. - Faxed something with the computer, felt like the king of the world, faxed without a fax machine. - Microsoft Encyclopedia, World of flights, and some other content CD, can't remember since I'm only interested in the first two. - Cleaning mouse balls.
  6. <old person voice> Dang it kids these days and their geforce.. Back when I was 14 I was rocking an Nvidia TNT2 with a whopping 32 MB memory. 32 MB! And it can do 32-bit colors! Voodoo can't touch it, nuh uh, I don't care what them fanboys said about Voodoo but RIVA is better.. I work as a waiter for one whole month to get that thing, it better be good.. </old person voice>   jokes aside, good luck with the upgrade.
  7. By doing what I'm doing now? Senior engineer, 40 hour work week, third world country. When I read news of US fast food worker asking for $15/hour, I'm like daaaaamn people earn more than I do by flipping burgers.
  8. Aye. With an SSD everything is smoother and faster in Windows. Works best if you surf/work a lot. Since I'm not rich enough to get a 1TB SSD, it means I have all my games on mechanical drives and once I'm in a game, I can't tell the difference between SSD and no SSD. If you spend more time gaming, a more powerful GPU would help a lot.
  9. lmao! Then will AMD's 8-core perform much faster than i7's strapon? Nah... AMD's kind of limp..
  10. SSD. I switched to one and now I groan at any PC without SSD. The improvement felt like online gaming with 500ms ping speed up to 50ms ping. Anyway, how "little money" do you mean? And "better" in what sense? I suggest putting a small pot of cactus on the PC case.
  11. Saturday morning cartoons. Able to run on the streets without worrying over cars running over me. Ride pillion on grandpa's (may he RIP) scooter, wind in the face (and grandpa's smelly shirt).
  12. OOOhhhh you reminded me that I actually had a stamp collection looong time ago.. wonder where I put my album...
  13. No digital cameras. Likely no advanced film SLR like the Nikon F6, maybe just an F3. Maybe those cheap fixed focus "automatic" film cameras back in the 90's. Enthusiasts and Pros would use darkroom instead of lightroom...
  14. I'm sure we'd find sticky magazines under his pillow instead of browser history.
