Need help with Storage Spaces

talon_2508

I recently bought a new PC, and now I have some leftover hardware that I plan to use as a "server" for hosting games and data hoarding. So here's it gets confusing

Motherboard: Asus Z270H-GAMING (has 6 SATA ports onboard)
I already have an SSD for Windows 10 OS (occupies 1 SATA port), 2 1 TB 3.5" HDD (occupies 2 SATA ports), and lastly 1 Optical Drive (one more SATA port).

I intend to get a 6 2.5" Bay hot-swappable Rack inserted into one of the case's 5.25" bay, requires 6 SATA ports, but I've only got 2 left on the motherboard.

I then intend to get 4 Port PCIe to SATA Controller to give me additional SATA Ports.

  1. Is this idea viable?

  2. Will I encounter issues if I plug my OS's SATA on the PCIe Card?

Apologies if it's unclear and/or I post this in the wrong place. I'm still learning as I go and this is my first project so go easy on me 😓
