First off let me say that I do not agree with everything Microsoft does with the Xbox brand by any means. A few things I despise are: The Kinect shenanigans they had to learn the hard way about (thought it was cool, but they focused too much on it and requiring it was total nonsense) The attempt to remove used games (thank God they pulled back on this one) Overly focusing on digital game purchases MICROTRANSACTIONS (its not just Microsoft, but they're guilty of it too) Charging for Xbox Live (I already pay for the internet, why do I need to pay you for permission to use my internet) I could go on and on, so please understand I'm not some fangirl, they irritate me a lot, but I think the AA battery decision with their controllers was the right decision and here's why: Replacing built in rechargeable batteries is a much bigger hassle than replacing some AA batteries (PS5 controller battery replacement video), and all batteries stop holding charges at some point and become fire hazards, I don't want to have to tear apart my controller just to replace its battery. Rechargeable built in batteries can be easily replaceable if companies designed them right (xbox rechargeable battery) and thats great, but these batteries are often proprietary to the manufacturer, meaning in the long run the possibility of demand becoming so low its no longer profitable to make replacements could create an issue for future collectors of these consoles. The AA standard itself could become obsolete, but it has been here much longer and runs a much lower risk of this occurring for the foreseeable future. I don't want to have to plug in my wireless controller or own two (spending an extra $50.00 or more) so I can swap them out when the batteries die. AA replacement is quick and easy. If the batteries go bad, it is much easier for me to remove and dispose of them on the current Xbox controller than any of its competitors (this might not count as a full reason on its own as it kind of touches on reason 1) For me the perfect solution has been Energizer's rechargeable AA batteries which aren't much more expensive than traditional AA batteries, will save you money in the long run with how long they last and how many recharges you can get out of them and you maintain the convenience and relative future proofing (AA could become obsolete at some point but I don't see it coming anytime soon) without having the waste or annoyance of traditional AA batteries in needing to always purchase replacements. I understand not all will agree and thats cool. Though I think in a perfect world new controllers and consoles would come with rechargeable AA batteries and their charging units. Reduction in waste, ease of use and that relative future proofing while maintaining much of what is loved by built in rechargeable batteries we see elsewhere. Especially considering you can charge these Energizer batteries with them still in the controller via a USB C cable. Also no disrespect to the Playstation controller, not my cup of tea as I grew up on the Xbox controller, but Sony makes a mean good controller.

I recently got a 4k tv and have been using it with my xbox 1 s (not series, very cool naming system) and I was wanted to watch some hdr video on it to see how it looks since this was my first hdr capable display as well. And I noticed that on youtube, I can't select an hdr video resolution of more than 1440p. I can select 4k when a video is not hdr, but when it is hdr, it doesn't seem to allow it. Does anyone know why? I bought an hdmi 2.1 cable specially to avoid this problem, so I'm not sure what could be going on other than a software thing. Is there another app I can check to see if it is the cable or just Youtube? Netflix, (hbo) max, and hulu all don't give me the option to select a resolution. Although they do pop up the hdr10/dolby vision logo when appropriate. I'm 99% sure it should be able to handle it since the ports are hdmi 2.0a, but at this point I'm stumped. Any info or ideas would be much appreciated. Or if you have a Xbox One X, or Xbox Series and it works I'd like to know.

When I press the sensor on the Xbox one it beeps twice but doesn’t turn on, turns on with the controller and uses the normal sound, does that mean the sensor is broken

So I bought a pre-owned Xbox one and for the first 4years of owning it I haven't had any problems. Until recently it had started slowing down. So I decided to start with the easy cheap fix first, cleaning it. And upon tearing it down, I discovered that apparently someone had set a candle on the vents and there is candle wax all over the inside. I just want to find the safest way to clean it off without damaging the board.

I've never really had a reason to look into this before because I usually stream from my Xbox to my laptop to play games with audio as I don't have any speakers that use optical audio and my controller is first gen too. Recently however, I wanted to watch Blu-ray on it but since you can't stream Blu-ray over the network like games I was thinking a 3rd party Bluetooth adapter might be the cheapest easiest way to go if it works. If anyone's done this and knows if it works I'd like to know! Or if you have a better solution that's cost effective that's good too.

Hello, a run down of what I've done so far: On my Bell internet modem+router combo I set a DMZ with my personal routers internet port MAC address. UPnP is enabled on it also. I then port forwarded the eight ports related to Xbox live. Then on my personal router, Netgear Nighthawk AX40 I port forwarded the same Xbox live ports, plus the user configurable port on the Xbox; 51646. UPnP is enabled on AX40. When running the test NAT on the Xbox, I'm getting Strict result. I know that means its behind two routers but there should be no barrier between it and the internet. The Xbox is connected to the AX40 over 5G Wifi, signal strength 100%. Thoughts?

Hey guys. I am on a quest to find a headset that works wirelessly on both Xbox & PS4 and the new consoles. Why manufacturers can make wired headsets that work on both systems but not wirelessly? Even the new JBL Quantum 600 & 800 boasts wireless connectivity for all systems. So I ordered the 800s. I get em but they are actually only wireless w/PC & Mac, limited functionality wireless w/PS4. They work wired w/no added functions on Xbox & Switch. Come on bruh! So I’m coming to the LT team for some answers. Thank you

I literally just made this account to ask this question before I trash this cord. Since out of the blue today my original Xbox One console has been shutting off and having trouble turning on. Ive deduced it to be a problem within either the power cord or power supply. When I plug in the cord from the supply to the console, it shuts off, however the power supply itself seems to have no issues, since when plugged into any outlet it turns bright orange as it should. Im asking if its maybe an issue within the power supply itself, I have tools to open it and engineering friends who can help, or whether if its a problem with the cord, which can easily be replaced. Or both, which both can be replaced

I heard a rumor of a guy taking apart a PS4 and an Xbox 1, and taking the better components out of the PS4 to upgrade the Xbox. Is it remotely possible? Has anyone here ever done anything similar?

Greetings, human beings I've gotten myself access to XBox game streaming recently (really cool, just have to upgrade my home network, but that's already in the works). If you are like me, you prefer games on disk more than as a digital copy, for whatever reason. One downside to this tho is when you have little siblings, that are too young to play DOOM or other FPS games, is that you constantly need to swap the disks. Too little sleep and a weird brain conjured up the following idea: Take a SATA expander PCB from a Server or somewhere, connect it to the SATA port of the original XBox disk drive and connect more of the same model disk drives to the expander. Would the XBox recognize all drives or would it straight up seize to cooperate? EDIT: The (S) in the title is there because I own an XBox One S, but if it works on an X as well it would be nice to know!

I want to know if i can link a large drive up to multiple devices as the primary or game drive. Me and my wife play a lot of the sme games and the pcs are close together and it seems like a waste of space to have 2 copies of the same game. That and the mad scientist in me is curious if frankencomputer will live?

Living with my wife in a 1 bedroom apartment has shown its issues. Like gaming on a custom PC is not all quite possible when using the space as efficiently as we try. I have resorted to console gaming on the Xbox One and PS3 while needing to be creative. This build log shows the work in progress of cleaning up my little bit of gaming space while also showing the creativity of keeping an apartment classy and clutter free (at least in to a tight corner). Also, this was a good time to learn creative wood techniques. Hope you all enjoy. This is my current setup, complete with wiring. I keep game cases in the tiny box to the bottom right. My old Xbox 360 could sit on that coke box, but the Xbone doesn't allow for vertical standing. Tried. I hide power plugs behind the coke box and an extension cord when I get my SNES to play some Donkey Cong country. Here is a close up look of the TV. A no frills Sony. It feeds down under the carpet. Didn't do that on purpose. Landlord had to fix the subfloor and the wiring got tucked under it. Quite nice. Yes, that is a first gen Zune. Best media player on the planet and it still works. Only a 3 hour battery now. Here is the culprit that I am going to fix. I will build a shelf to stack the PS3 and Xbone. Idea is to add an HDMI switcher to allow the computer behind the bag to run on the TV as well. I will do a separate post when I get around to getting the PC up and running as a media server and NAS. I am going to fix all my problems with this. Scrap wood. Courtesy of my father in law, as well as the power tools to make my storage organizer. I won't show the steps in cutting. Pretty standard cuts with very basic joints, glue, and 4 in screws. Most of the pieces together to form a frame. Ran out of time and grabbed a piece to take home and verify it would fit. Perfect! And yes, the Xbone will squeeze in there with micrometers to spare on each side. I won't be boarding up the sides for airflow sake. I will finish putting all the pieces together this week and will upload more pics. Thanks for taking a look. All thoughts are welcome. ~TheCamba

Microsoft have brought the domain name Xbone.com Major Nelson speaks out against the use of the word. ‘I don’t like it…it disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product. Sure, it’s cheeky but I don’t care for it myself.’ I genuinely believe they deserves it after they disrespected their customer with their initial idea's for the product. http://metro.co.uk/2013/09/12/microsoft-buys-disrespectful-xbone-com-domain-3962444/ love to hear other peoples thoughts.

Want specs for a PC with same power as PS4 / Xbox 1
JaredB posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
I have a friend who is planning to buy a new console and wants me to get one too, but I am in the middle of building a high end gaming pc, and I don't want to buy a new console, but my friend doesn't want to buy a gaming PC because he is convinced that he will have to spend over 1000$. I want to prove to him that he can buy a PC that would be just as good (if not better) than a new console for around 600$. I don't think you could find a good pre-built computer for 600$, but a custom built one would probably work. I'm not all that good at determining the price-to-value of PC parts, or which older pc parts are good, since I'm new to PC building, so if someone could point me to an existing page with more info, or just give me specs for parts to build a 600$ish PC that's just as good or better than an Xbox1 or PS4, then that would also be appreciated. Thank You.- 14 replies

So I guess this counts as a review. I have to admit that this is how I feel about the xbox One. The video is NSFW but funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKTseEpWrYc

Hello every one! I'm new to the forum here but have been following linus for a long time. So here is my situation. I'm currently using beats studio wireless to play my xbox1x at night so I don't wake up my 2 toddler boys (or worse my wife ahhhhh!). So imo the beats suck for this and pretty much every other thing I have used them for. So here's what I need your all's advise with. What should I get? I'm open to either a gaming headset or a pair of wireless headphones. Below is a list of my usage and wants. Uses: gaming on xb1x, play station, watching movies, and YouTube (mostly LTT). Not needed: I really don't use mics to talk awhile gaming much I wouldn't be opposed to using the head phones for this reason but would still prefer to have the option to chat. Wants: amazing sound quality both gaming and movies is the up most important thing for me. I would like something that has a good surround sound like effect, and be able to use with the dolby atmos app on xbox. I mostly use xbox so that needs to come first but would also like to use on others platforms mostly ps4 and pc, that being said I'm willing to use a wired set up if needed. Thanks for your help guys! I didn't know where else to turn on this issue.
