Hi looking for a bit of help. i have wifi connection, and cannot use ethernet cable in my location My question is Will a wifi extender like https://www.netgear.com/home/wifi/range-extenders/ex2700/ Be good Or is a wireless access point better like this https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/access-point/tl-wa901n/ Or is it better just to get a pcie wireless card Like https://www.asus.com/networking-iot-servers/adapters/all-series/pce-ac88/ So yeah what’s gonna give the best speed and connection consistency out of all these wireless options And will there be much improvement from a wireless usb dongle thanks Any help appreciated Cheers Loz

I am buying a PoE router from Ubiquiti's EdgeRouter series, and am trying to figure out if their UniFi access points will work with it without the need for the UniFi controller, but have not been able to find that information anywhere. Please Help.

First time poster! I think. LOL I have my internet through a rural electric co-op since that's all I can get right now. Currently, my wireless bridge is on my roof which points to another house's bridge on their garage roof. That person's house is at least a half mile away on a hill. Lately, I have been having issues with packet loss and it's really hurting me since I work-at-home on occasion. After having the electric company come out a couple times, they have been unable to do anything and they suggest I pay someone else to have this fixed. :angry: I want to just do this myself and save some money. After observing things, I have come to the conclusion that the tree line is causing the frequently issues. Luckily, the person's house has a taller roof than his garage, so I could just move the bridge to the roof of the house and be perfectly fine. I have already talked to the person on the hill and they are OK with it being moved as long as it doesn't affect his connection and I don't cause his roof to leak. My question is this... If I disconnect my internet and his, then move his bridge from the garage roof to the house roof, reconnect everything and put power back to it, will I have to do anything else to make sure it works? I don't know what brand or model these bridges are. I do know that they have an ethernet cable that runs from the bridge to an adapter. The adapter then has another cable running to my router, and then an AC adapter that runs to an outlet. I have looked at some Cisco docs but I don't think any of that would apply to this. Any assistance to this would be awesome!

My friend is looking into a high end wireless card for their new x99 build. Hello everyone, I have a DIR-655 router collecting dust. So, I decided to use it as a repeater but I am unable to find a solution by myself. I would like to ask for your help in this matter if possible. Thank you for you help!

So I just got an asus rt-ac68u, but its called the asus tm-ac1900, because I got it through t mobile's promotion where they basically let you rent this router for free for only a down payment of $25, and you get to keep it for life. But it basically has the exact same hardware as the rt-ac68u, but a few minor firmware tweaks, but nothing out of the ordinary. I come from linksys routers were there new smart ui is simple and easy, but lacks enthusiast settings, I got this router because I wanted some of those settings, but I'm no enthusiast, so i'm really overwhelmed by the options I'm given. There are 2 menus that I really don't know anything about, even the tab for them is labeled "professional", here are what they look like: http://imgur.com/a/eKI87 . One is for advanced 2.4ghz band settings and the other for 5ghz band, so what are most of these settings for, and which are unecssary and which are good to have on? Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Long story short I have a linksys ea6400 and its just getting to be pure garbage, so I plan to buy a new router and just use this one a repeater because it was $170 so I'm not going to trash it or put its burden on someone else, but ever since linksys switched to their "smart" firmware (its actually far dumber and offers half the options as the old firmware) there's no option to make the router a repeater, no even a bridge either which used to be supported on their old routers. So is there anyway to make this router a repeater, because dd-wrt is not supported and I don't want this $170 brick to go to waste. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

So I've been stuck with this Linksys EA6400 for a year or so now, and I just can't take it anymore, back when I bought it AC routers were just starting to overtake most N routers on the market, so me being an early adopter type person thought, I'll pay the extra $50 to get this new router with all these new features, but it sure hasn't payed off over the last year. I can't tell if the router is just a bad piece of hardware, the placement of the router is poor, or if Linksys has terrible firmware (over the entire year I had the router there were only 2 updates and they only addressed minor issues that I never had). When I first got the router I had it placed on a 6.5 ft shelf in a small room in the corner of my house, about 15ft from the center of the house. I thought this was the leading factor to my problems, so I moved it more towards the center of my first floor and mounted it about the same height (6.5 ft) on the wall. But no nothing changed, maybe a 5 ft increase of the already pathetic range, quote from linksys site that is complete lies to me: "High-powered signal amplifiers deliver ultimate range and performance", and nowhere on the linksys site do they give an estimate of their routers ranges, they just give you this stupid phrase. So now onto my testing, My internet speed that I get on my desktop that connected to a switch that's connected to the router gets almost exactly every-time 9ms Ping, 121.3mbps download, and 23.3 upload (speedtest.net). Now for my wireless tests I used my macbook air 2013, because it does have AC so I can take advantage of that on 5ghz. So from where I most often use my macbook in my office on the second floor, I'd estimate about 30-35 ft away from the router I got these results: 2.4Ghz N average ping 10-15ms, average download 15mbps, and average upload 23mbps. So very interesting I got very good pngs, but the download speeds are always low, isn't 2.4ghz N capable of 144mbps? and then for some reason I always get my full upload speed of 23mbps on 2.4ghz. Now 5ghz, this is where things get annoying, average ping stil 10-15ms, down load speed, there was no average I got everything from 5mbps one test, and 40 mbps on another?!?! and upload was almost always in between 5-10mbps. Why is it that on 5Ghz I get theses terrible fluctuations in download and upload is always the same but slower compared to 2.4ghz? Also in windows network center thing, when on the 2.4ghz I always had a "speed" (connection link to router) of 78mbps, so why is it that I had this link speed but couldn't get 78mbps download speeds in my speed tests?! The confusion continues, on 5ghz the "speed" fluctuated between 10mbps and flippin 780mbps! Thats probably the AC kicking in I guess, but if I can get a link speed of 780 why can't I get my full internet speed? At first I though all these problems were because my house is very old and I'm on the second floor, and the second floor was basically plopped on somewhere along the line of my houses life and the gap between the first and second floor is 2 feet thick, and there's probably vents, wires, beams and who knows what blocking the signal, so I did the same tests from the same distance (30-35ft) away on the first floor, exact same results. Then I do some tests about 5 feet away from the router, I get constant 11ms pings, my full 121.3 download speed, and my full 23.3 upload speed. What is causing all these problems? I haven't done extensive testing, mostly with my phone (iphone 5s) because its easier, and its like the second you get more than 10-15 away from the router you always get 20mbps or less download on either frequency and the same for upload, but always good pings. I don't know if this is just a bad model router by linksys, or if their firmware just isn't good yet, or I'm doing something wrong. So does anyone know if there's a secret settings in the linksys "smart" settings that actually makes your router work past 15 ft? I'm eyeing the new linksys wrt1900ac, but I know that my router is good enough for what I'm doing and the internet speed I pay for, but it just doesn't want to work, I've had 3 linksys routers in the past and the only reason they got replaced was because updating standards, and I don't want to trash this router because it was bad, I want it to last until AC is obsolete.. If you guys could help me out in anyway I would greatly appreciate it!
