Hi tech tips folks. I'm having a major issue with my work PC, and I figured I'd try to tap into the wealth of knowledge here before resorting to calling HP tech support. I have an HP Z2 G9 SFF Workstation. It has a core i7 13700, 32GB of ram, a 512GB system drive and a 1GB secondary drive, both m.2, and an AMD Radeon Pro WX3200 GPU running Windows 11 Pro. (link to specific machine: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1764076-REG/hp_87c37ut_aba_z2_g9_sff_workstation.html?fromDisList=y) It installed a windows update the other day that made the built in sound stop working. I could still get sound out of a TV that was connected to the graphics card, but the on board Realtek audio simply stopped working after the update. I tried installing an updated driver from HP with no success. If I looked at device manager, I could only see the Realtek audio device if i viewed hidden devices. After multiple attempts to update the driver with no success, I tried uninstalling the device with the hopes Windows would see it and reinstall it. That did not work and Windows doesn't see it at all any more. If I go into the BIOS, the device is there and can be seen, but Windows has no clue it exists. After a few hours of troubleshooting, I decided to turn to Windows Recovery and restored from a restore point that happened to conveniently be there from the day before, before the Windows update was installed. The system hung on reboot after the restore, but I left it alone and went home for the weekend. When I came back on Monday, it was still on the same initial startup splash screen, so I turned off the computer and attempted to reboot. Now, the system simply won't turn on. The power LED will come on for a few seconds when I push the button but then the system turns right back off and nothing comes up on the screen. I disconnected the power cord and left it until today. My next step in the thought process is to disconnect every external device except my keyboard, mouse, and a single monitor and see if it will boot into something, even just to get to the BIOS. If that doesn't work, the only other thing I can think of is to call HP since it's under warranty but that is really my last resort. Any legitimate suggestions are greatly appreciated while I work on my personal laptop until I can fix this thing.

Hello all, might be a bit of a long one here since there are a lot of details. I have included a link to a google drive that has all pictures relevant to this. I have been experiencing a blue screening issue over the past 6 or so months with my gaming pc. While playing some games, most recently the new Madden Football 24 the pc crashes and the BSOD pops up with Whea_Uncorrectable error. It says it is collecting some info to develop a report and then I can restart my pc. The thing is the progress of the info collection does not go above 0%, I have left it for multiple hours numerous times and the progress does not go above 0% because of this I have no crash reports from it because it never actually collects the info. If need be I can let it sit longer and see if the progress goes above 0% if need be. I have attached all of the minidumps I have in the google drive though just incase there is something in there that can be used to help me. All the research I've done says it is a hardware issue and might have to replace a part but I want to know what part it is which I cant seem to figure that out, or if it has something to do with a digitally fix instead of physically replacing a part, Another interesting little "quirk" of my issue is that the crash results in the regular BSOD but sometimes the game will just freeze and the game will still show but a tiny blue rectangle appears in the bottom right corner of the screen. The weird thing is that it doesn't BSOD in all games. The new Madden 24 BSODs pretty much every time I play, same with FIFA 23 and PUBG, but I am able to play Rocket League, Valorant, CIV 6 and even Assassins' Creed Odyssey on max graphics settings with no issue or BSOD. Update I tried to follow the steps to post a thread about BSOD however when I tried to run the perfmon /report in CMD it does not let me save a file after 60 seconds so I cant do that. I can't launch MSI Center Pro on my MSI Modern 14 B5M, my OS is Windows 11 Home. I use my MSI Center Pro every day to change my fan settings it worked yesterday, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software but still no change, I've also tried disabling Windows security firewalls, uninstalling Kaspersky Antivirus, and run it as admin. I tried to look in other forums I've only found one on the official MSI forum the suggestion involved doing something with the regedit so I chose not do do it Please if someone knows how to solve my please tell me, I can't change my fan settings and charging limit now.

Hello to all, I need to send my Surface Laptop 3 (128GB, i5-1035G7 model) for repairs tomorrow and I want to erase all sensitive data present in the SSD before sending it off -- I want to use Microsoft's Surface Data Eraser for this data wipe (PS: it's a program that requires a bootable, USB drive to erase all data within the Surface device after turning it on). My concern is that Microsoft's info page on that tool doesn't say a word about how you reinstall your OS, which is worrying because the Surface Laptop 3 won't just install a fresh, activated copy of W10-W11 after being completely cleared from data! Do Surface devices even have an activation key if I get requested one after trying to install W10 or W11 from an external bootable drive, or does Microsoft request some unique ID that can be acquired from the laptop's Serial Number? Has anyone ever done this before and if so could you tell me how you got Window installed + activated after erasing all data from the Surface's SSD?

So last night my neighbors dryer caught fire, lint trap. Well at the exact time that I smelled the smoke from that My pc's PSU stated making a buzzing sound and the light on the fans when very dim, with the motherboard having a red light go on. I didn't get a chance to see what motherboard light went red, and it is off when I turned it back on. I shut it off because I thought the smell of smoke was my pc. My pc was plugged into a Monster Power MDP 700 which didn't do the trick.

Hello everyone, I need help fixing my corrupted bios. My laptop was having serious thermal shutdown problems where it would shutdown around 60º everytime, I figured it should be a software problem, as the laptop has barely 3 years of life and during those years it was cleaned thoroughly and the thermal paste swapped, but even with a clean install of windows and the manufactor's drivers the problem didn't seem to go away. I decided to downgrade my bios to an early version hoping that would fix the issue, unfortunatly, downgrading the bios completly bricked my laptop. I ask for anyone that has any knowledge on corrupted bios to help me. Unfortunatly, the repair shops here (rural Portugal) are not "qualified" enough for such a repair and all tell me to replace the motherboard, which would cost around 200 euros. I know my way around computers enough to know this is fixable (but clearly not enough to avoid this issue), and I can try to fix it with some help. For some context, the bios was flashed, the laptop automaticaly restarted, it installed the new bios to 100%, restarted again and nothing else happened after that. The computer right now turns on, the fan ramps up but nothing else happens, just black screen. I already tried: reseating ram, removing cmos battery, laptop battery and power and leaving it out for some time, and putting the bios files in a usb stick while pressing FN+ESC. I will be posting this topic on multiple tech websites for the best chances at fixing the issue. Here are the specifications of the device and the bios files: Acer Aspire 5 - A515-51G-56UG CPU- i5-8250u RAM- 8GB DDR4 SSD- 256GB M.2 GPU- Geforce Mx130 Motherboard- C5V01 LA-E892P Acer Drivers/BIOS support: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/7244?b=1 Installed BIOS before downgrade: 2.02 https://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/BIOS/BIOS/BIOS_Acer_2.02_A_A.zip?acerid=636872639637878065&Step1=NOTEBOOK&Step2=ASPIRE&Step3=ASPIRE A515-51G&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6 Downgraded BIOS: 1.09 https://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/BIOS/BIOS/BIOS_Acer_1.09_A_A.zip?acerid=636419909262548145&Step1=NOTEBOOK&Step2=ASPIRE&Step3=ASPIRE A515-51G&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

So I just bought this Ryzen 3200G system. However after I booted it up, the display turned on like this, I tried everything to fix it. I tried to fix it using Windows settings and AMD software settings but nothing worked. The same methods worked everywhere else though, as I saw on YouTube videos. If anyone knows how to fix this please help me.

Hi! So, I just recently upgraded from a 1070 to a RTX 3060 OC. My motherboard is a Strix-b550 F, along with a 5600x cpu. After installing I installed the drivers (and I even did DDU to remove my old drivers) my computer would just freeze and I would have to power it off and back on to fix it. It usually happens when I tab in and out of a game, or sometimes randomly but I'm extremely lost and confused. Also, the RTX 3060 OC is from Zotac. It's also blue screened before too. I have tried resetting my windows and have even done a fresh instillation too.

Because my gpu died after it stopped working in one slot and then a day ago when I went to clean my pc and took out the hdmi slot it didn't work at all and I tested both slots no output so I tested it with my 2x pcie wifi card and it worked in all the slots. And I'm getting a new gpu on Wednesday so I want to make sure it will work.

A while ago I upgraded my laptop to a 500gb ssd. I recently needed to grab some of my log ins (google) off the old one so i took out the new one and put the old one back in. After doing the work I put back in the 500gb one and now it wont boot to windows. I am using windows 10. I suspect its something to do with the windows licence. I need this laptop for school tomorrow as it has my work saved and I have not backed anything up. The keyboard also is not working I suspect a cable I moved or drivers but that is not important. Laptop Specs: Acer Spin 3 (SPN-314-53N-7464) i7 8th gen (i7-8565U) 12 gb ram (upgraded from 8gb) 500gb crucial p2 ssd (old one sandisk Z400s 128gb) 1tb hdd

so my friend has this dell laptop that he needs to have 8 gb free on his c drive so he can get 64bit version of windows by using the media creation tool and exporting windows to a separate hardrive to get geforce now on his laptop as it requires 64bit win and he has 32 bit win. we are having extreme trouble by trying to delete that 8gb in the c drive, we've consulted youtube and done most of the stuff there. we even tried to factory reset but that somehow failed so we are coming to the ltt forums for help, we have been at this for 13 hours+ and we have deleted all the temp files and stuff from software distribution downloads and stuff like that and even emptying the recycling bin but it isnt working and in some instances after we clear out something the amount of free space decreases. sorry for the long post but can someone help me and my friend?

It does boot successfully sometimes but even after the successfull boot the pc crashes frequently. I checked the display port cable, i ve also made a bios reset (with the onboard bios reset button on my msi meg z390 ace mobo ), but nothing works. Please help me. -

Hello everybody, I have been playing a lot of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 recently and have been experiencing some issues that i think are GPU related and need help with asap. I will be playing through the game normally and randomly and suddenly my screen will output a series of vertical lines that are of similar color of the last visible frame on screen. The background also goes blank but is normally is a slightly darker shade of the color that the vertical lines are. After this my screen will go black after a while and both my connected monitors will keep flashing from a blank black screen and then loose video signal and then go back to black. Sometimes my desktop and the Windows UI does flash on screen sometimes but im not sure if windows is usable. Although i haven't been able to capture the lines on video and if you want i can get a photo when it next happens, i have got the stage afterwards when the monitors start flashing on camera. (VIDEO HERE AND AT BOTTOM OF POST) A hard reset will get me out of the locked up state and back into windows. I have not noticed this in any other games as i haven't really played any during the time of this but when playing csgo a day before this i did get my first BSOD with the stop code saying something to do with watchdog but i feel this BSOD is unrelated to this issue as windows itself does not crash. EDIT: i reproduced and got a picture of the lines after the game crashes. This happened in 2 different situations: Lines after game crash: I also went into the BIOS to flash an update to see if it would fix the issue. After clicking a couple of times in the menus i got these set of lines and the system froze SOLUTIONS I HAVE TRIED: Cleaning out my system of dust. Doing a clean install of the graphics drivers. SYSTEM SPECS: GPU: MSI AMD Radeon R7 370 GAMING 4G CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 RAM: (2x4GB) G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 2133MHz MOBO: ASUS TUF B450-PLUS GAMING DISPLAYS: 2 1080p 60Hz Panels. One Asus 23 inch and one HP 27 inch ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The game is installed on an old hard drive which is a bad drive as it used to be my main boot drive but the system would randomly restart. This issue was fixed ages ago by swapping my boot drive. However, i dont think an issue like this would occur because of a bad drive. VIdeo link:

Yes, I have an HP Pavilion 15 Gaming laptop, and it constantly overheats, the screen is absolutely horrible, and it has a BIOS that is unacceptable for 2019, let alone 2018, the year it was bought. None of those reasons are why I'm actually making this post though. Yesterday, the new Intel 660p 1TB NVMe SSD that I ordered was delivered. I went ahead and installed the drive, and then used Macrium Reflect to copy over my OS and partitions. After doing so, I manually booted from the SSD, and everything worked fine. The only issue was that my BIOS lacks the option to choose which drive I would like to use as my default boot drive. The only option remotely close is under a tab called "System Configuration" where it shows in what order the drives will boot in, and not even giving any options with it. So, I removed my hard drive, and then successfully booted from the SSD. The speeds were absolutely amazing compared to my hard drive, so I got quite excited over the new experience. After reinserting the hard drive, the computer again booted from the SSD perfectly fine. After the success, I went ahead and formatted the hard drive because I had plans to use it for my Steam library, so I did so. (Yes, now I realize that I was super dumb and should not have deleted it...) I restarted the computer again, and this time I was met with a blue screen. (Attached as an image.) This confuses me... the computer booted just fine with the hard drive completely removed from the system. Then after I had formatted it, the computer wouldn't even boot from the SSD anymore! I'm assuming this can be fixed with a recovery boot from a flash drive as the screen says, but if I actually can recover my OS, is there a way that I can set my NVMe SSD as my boot drive permanently? Or is this computer completely unable to?...
