My college's network has all the UDP ports blocked which makes me unable to use a lot of services like WhatsApp, GeForce experience, steam, BitTorrent etc. Even pip doesn't work, which I need in order to download python packages for my classwork. Is there any way to convert UDP traffic to traffic, or any way to bypass the block? In order to access the internet through my college LAN, I need to use a proxy server which listens on port 8080. Please help me out here. All opinions are welcome here and if you require any more info feel free to ask me.

Sorry I am a complete newbie in here so my problem is when I try to send a file(~50gb) to my server(only terminal no gui) over various methods it failed and it said connection time out. What i am guessing is that it has to do with my router tcp-timeout setting. The funny thing is i believe so that i do not have this setting on my router. So my question is do have any tips how i could transfer my file over there. I tried so far via ssh wget/curl and an apache server smb ftp

Hi, I'm trying to get openvpn working on 443 tcp. It does work when I connect to the local ip, but when I try to connect to the public ip it doesn't work. I can't connect to the public ip on the local network and other networks.Everything is port forwarded correctly. But on udp 1194 it does work correctly on public/local. When I tried forwarding my esxi for testing if it's maybe a bug that I can't forward 443, it just worked fine. I removed that port forward and recreated the openvpn port forward, but it didn't work. Pictures: (It's dutch)

Hey, guys in regard to the latest video. UDP is not necessarily more resistant to drop out. The basic difference between TCP and UDP is that UDP's packet is smaller with less overhead as barebone UDP itself doesn't care about packets being received properly. i.e it's "best-effort" method. Whereas TCP packet is larger with more overhead to ensure all the packets are received. Applications can then decide what to do what the packets they've received. TL;DR : UDP is not considered reliable data transfer compared to TCP as it doesn't handle packet dropping natively. Correct me if i'm wrong.

I am trying to send messages from a client to a server using sockets. I have sent data however I would like the sever to listen constantly for data and print out each message as it comes in. The code works for the first message however for some reason all subsequent messages are not read. It's almost as if conn.recv(BUFFER_SIZE) is not blocking. Server code: import socket, time TCP_IP = 'localhost' # this IP of the Raspberry Pi or the device receiving messages TCP_PORT = 40000 BUFFER_SIZE = 64 #can lower for faster response s = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM) #s.setsockopt(socket.SOL_SOCKET, socket.SO_REUSEPORT, True) s.bind((TCP_IP, TCP_PORT)) s.listen(1) conn, addr = s.accept() conn.setblocking(True) print ('Connection address:', addr) count = 0 while True: robotMsg = conn.recv(BUFFER_SIZE) print('Recv message') if not robotMsg: print('Nothing read') count = count + 1 time.sleep(1) if count > 5: conn.close() break else: robotMsg = robotMsg.decode('utf-8') print(robotMsg) if robotMsg == 'start': print('starting data recording') elif robotMsg == 'resume': print('resuming last file') elif robotMsg == '1_data': print('reading 1') elif robotMsg == '2_data': print('reading 2') elif robotMsg == 'exit': print('closing server') break else: print('unknown command') time.sleep(1) conn.close() Client code: import socket, time TCP_IP = 'localhost' # this IP of the RaspberryPi or the device receiving messages. TCP_PORT = 40000 BUFFER_SIZE = 64 MESSAGE = 'start' count = 1 while count < 10: s = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM) s.connect((TCP_IP, TCP_PORT)) s.send(MESSAGE.encode('utf-8')) #.encode needed to send bytes print('Sent Message: ', MESSAGE) count = count + 1 time.sleep(3) print ('end') exit = 'exit' s.send(exit.encode('utf-8')) s.close()

I know the basics of TCP connections for example, I can make a client wich sends a string to the server and then the server responds with something, but I have no idea of how to make a server wich connects to multiple clients at the same time. The clients are supposed to stay connected and be ready to send a string when they have to. And, my biggest problem: make the server also a client so that without an incoming message it can broadcast a message to all clients. Is there anyone who can help me with this? Any help greatly appreciated.

So I am looking for a reliable and fast free VPN service that offers the TCP protocol. For some reason my network doesn't allow any other type of VPN protocols to work. I have one on my phone that works but I have not been able to find an equivalent on the pc. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone! My name is Ian and I'm trying to re-engage with IT and potentially get a career within it. I am learning the new CompTIA A+ 901/902 and have been recommended this website as a reliable source of information full of active and knowledgeable members by a friend. I am having a couple of troubles with the TCI/IP section as a lot of this is new to me, up till this point it has all been relatively good as I have previous experience within IT but it was a while ago and it was mainly base level stuff, nothing in too much detail. I have done a test on TCP/IP and there are a few questions that I couldn't get my head around and was hoping someone could assist me? "Which of the following network topologies is the most resistant to the failure of a single host or communication channel?" Mesh / star-bus / star / star-ring I thought it was mesh as all computers and connected to one another directly which meant if one went down then all others could still function? I am no expert so it could just be something simple I have overlooked but I would really appreciate if someone could give me a hand with this. Many thanks, Ian.

I made an API that attempts to make programming for networking in Java easier. I was originally only using it for my own projects, but I decided to open it up to the public. https://github.com/bharriswp1/SimplePackets/tree/master Some documentation is in the README and I will be adding more in the future. It is entirely based on what I decided to call DataPackets. These DataPackets contain a Map of keys and their values and can transfers them to other machines via TCP.

Hey everyone, I've just recently gotten an study book for the CompTIA Network+ exam. It refers to TCP segments and IP packets as different things, but never clearly explains the difference. Is there anyone out there that could help me out with this, and explain the difference a little?

Hi ! I have a problem in Windows Server 2012 R2 : I have searched and try everything I know to fix this, but I cannot start NetTcpPortSharing service and therefore I cannot configure Windows Server Essentials Role, among other things. I have theses services not starting : gupdate (Google Update) NetTcpActivator ADWS (keeps restarting (115 times in a few hours)) WseNtfSvc NetTcpPortSharing ServiceProviderRegistry NetPipeActivator A lot of them depend on NetTcpPortSharing service I believe. I've been googling for a day now and haven't found anything. I tried ProcessMonitor but no particular error. The domain is quite new and reinstalling is not an option here. I'd really appreciate help guys I don't know what to do here (for any of these services)! Thank you ! So I know most of my protocols ports and the likes, however ive recently come across "nerv" port 1222 tcp/udp SNI R&D Network. Ive tried google and apart from this one short line I have served you all here (nerve port 1222 tcp/udp SNI R&D Network) I cannot find any other information. So I guess my question is what is nerv? It appears its also meant to be spelt without an e at the end. If any one knows what this is thanks in advance, but im sure ill thank you again

I am working on a TCP Messenger in Visual Basic. I have created a client and server which uses TCP Clients and Listeners to send and receive messages. The client and server will successfully communicate over the local area network, however the client cannot communicate with the server if the server is hosted on a different network. I have forwarded the port (45576) but the client can still not connect. I checked the port using http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ and the port is closed. I'm guessing this means the server isn't listening on the public IP just the local IP. I would like the client to be able to communicate with the server over the Internet / Public IP. I would also like help in creating a contact system. The client will be able to see who is online and will be able to send private messages to specific users (Like Skype). I have tried to create a system but the server would no longer broadcast messages so I reverted the changes. I have attached both the server and client source code to this post. My skype is thomascarteruk91 if anyone would like to speak to me there. Thanks Nossic IM.zip
